And it is a random encounter... nothin cannon in the FO universe....

Special random encounter even.

True, true.

But I was just playing Fallout 2, and I noticed that when you check your kill score, wanamingos count as aliens.

This might be explained in some way, by The Fallout Bible. I don't have it by hand so I can't check. But the aæiens are there. HAHAHAHA.

*sob*

And the FO Bilbel clearly states that wannamingos are NOT aliens...
So there are NO aliens there, just freak genetic experients...

Agreed, the alien thingys are called aliens, they resemble Xenomorphs, yet the Bible states they aren't:
The Fallout Bible said:
The wannamingos are a result of FEV virus experiments, but they are now becoming sterile. They
are not aliens, but word is they were designed as FEV-tailored weapons for waging war on other
countries... and they got loose. They do live a long time, but they were dying out at the time of
Fallout 2. They have only been sighted in the F2 area and nowhere else in the wastelands

xenomorphs ? you mean like the ones from the Alien films ?
that would be like more than hell on earth :P

i hope that there will be a few new critters, Cars and such likings around in the next game. maybe more "mad max inspired" car fights or something like that.

More Cars would crappify the game IMHO..... Detracts from the FO feel....
If you want cars, play tactics..... :?

Definately no working cars, but I wouldn't mind seeing some animated caravans, the car boots being pulled by a team of brahmin.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind that..... :D

I disagree. I think it's almost guaranteed after the war people would find a way to get automobiles moving again. Cars in the 50's were simpler (as opposed to cars today) and i'd amolst expect to see a few cars here and there. Look at fallout 2. When you get the highwayman - no one really freaks out. They say "hey, nice ride" instead of "How the hell did you make that?".

But does it add to the fallout setting, witch is all about survival in the wasteland, making do with what you have at hand..?

I disagree with the "easier part", remember that the cars in question runs on fusion cells, not gasoline..........

And the fact thaty the Great War started all about gasoline.

Alternative fuel sources were not as popular then as they are now, or for that matter, really considered. So therefore as Nocturne has pointed out, they resorted to an alternative in style with the fiction, despite the fact that most of those kinds of automobiles would have been fried from EMP.

"Nice wheels" was probably someone's clever idea at BIS for a random line in New Reno or similar, which also did not fit into Fallout setting. That, and NCR's mysteriouis Fleet of Cars.

I never really had a definate opinion on the cars. As far as I can see the only thing that speaks for leaving them out is if they don't fit the setting(wich of course is a critical argument). But what makes them not fitting for the setting? is it because they would brake down after a few miles because they're so old? Would making them more moddified(you'know, mad max style) make them more fitting for the setting? What about the highwayman? Was it to New Reno'ish? I don't really know, someone enlighten me, please.

Think about it though, was it really that hard to get the car? There was some old junker sitting there - you fetch a part for it, smithy installs it and your golden.

Do cars belong in the fallout universe? I dont know. I think if they weren't going to put cars in Fallout, they never should have had the highwayman in F2.

Again, the car was a SPESHUL THING because you had to go to some reactor miles away that had one in storage. It wasn't like Smitty could just piss gasoline into any conventional tank, nor could he breathe the blue smoke back into electronics that were fried from the EMP blasts. The finding of the part in Gecko was a CHANCE ENCOUNTER, as apparently it was the ONLY ONE AROUND due to being protected by shielding. Really, where else could you have found the part?

I can't believe I have to point out the simple shit, for you of all people. Your logic reeks of "Oh, yeah, just talk to The Master and he'll kill himself. It's a common thing."

I dont see the problem with Cars , i mean it would be fun to have to get passed road blocks or have the raiders using such equipment where they can vut you off in cars. As long as its not massive in the cars issue then why would it matter.

I think having cars would unbalance the game too much. I was disgruntled at the fact that you had the car in Fallout 2, have travelled in it, yet you couldn't fight from it and would sometimes find yourself stranded with monsters inbetween you and your means of transportation (How likely is that?)

Driving cars and "smashing roadblocks" could be fun, but then again, it'd be very hard to implement without unbalancing the game. It'd practically mean that, again, two games would have to be made: an RPG and a vehicle combat sim. As for me, I'll just settle for the RPG.

Multiple vehicle fights are potentially fun, but they're Mad Max theme, not Fallout. The developers would be way over their heads trying to marry those concepts.

Im sure it could be done , and the whole thing with the not being able to fight in the car was a bit silly in FO2 and i agree that who on the earth would stop to fight a bunch of creatures when driving in a car.

If you want to smash roadblocks go play carmageddon......
I rarely use the Highwayman in FO:2, don't really know why, but it was kinda gimpy I'd have to agree.....
I think getting the car should have been made 3x as hard, dunno how though...

It was just one of many writing opportunities lost in the game, but I agree that it could have been and should have been fleshed out a lot more. After all, technology is supposed to be scarce and in ruin.

That's kind of the point of the setting, versus National Lampoon's Wasteland Vacation.
