Talking Heads

Thanks guys!

so much fallout 1!
I must admit that he's looking moar Fallout-y than Mr. Whip.

When can we expect the full thing?
Dunno. I don't have any specified time frame.

Except his slightly gay eyebrows.
Indeed, they need some little moar work.

some hair
If I'll get some decent results.

Anyway, everything is some sort of WIPie - clothes don't have proper texture, etc. Been checking how colors will blend with Fallout-y background.

Yeah, good stuff. :ok:

A question though, you seem to be on a 'bald' guys roll, what about bald girls? :P, now seriously, why not put some hair on the guy? (just curious).

actually, that TH reminds me a lot of Vic, would be pretty interesting to see that used as vic's TH, great job, continuum

Thanks guys!

Because bald-ies are faster to do? :D

Like this, Kojak women?

Short: laziness.

Long: normally I'd use a hair system, but unfortunately problems with anti-aliasing will occur, when I'll use default, buffer option - they're not actually created while rendering, but they're added as post effect (only shadows are created during render). Switching to mental ray to use its hair primitives isn't a solution too - option to disable anti aliasing on outer edges is totally ignored. Not to mention that render times could become a real killer - mr prim is much more slower than buffer. Also, I prefer to use Default Scanline for Fallout purposes.

Here's a result after switching to rendering hair as geometry:

If you think that quality of the hair (not the super-duper afro style!) is good enough for Fallout purposes then some hair can be attached to the head.

Using opacity based hair (mesh + transparency map) isn't an option too - you'll get anti-aliasing, even if it's disabled.

Of course, you could render the head together with specific background to solve lack of anti-aliasing support.

The only option would be to make some mesh only based hair (with textures, of course) to eliminate all problems mentioned above. Seems like some of hair (or even all?) on original THs are done in this way (I must investigate them closely ). But long hairs could look really bad - so you'll need to make workarounds to eliminate transparency from opacity map in background <--> head areas, which could be pretty stupid work, especially when head is animated.

That's why bald-ies are faster/easier to create - you don't need to waste a time for texturing/modeling hair, since few clicks solutions are not going to work. Of course, animation of hair is another problem to talk. Did I say that hair systems got its own dynamics, which could be really helpful in animating long hair? Of course, using hair system allows to quickly set up different hair styles - long, short, kink, frizz, etc., which is very flexible.

Excretory humour revisited! I've actually red his post like 5 times and I LOL'd as hell, 'cause it's GOLDEN CLASSICS!

Herve, go for it.

If you say that it will not always look that stiff (:P), then I think it's good for Fallout use. But I wonder if it wouldn't be easier to use - in some cases - hair as one "mesh" added to the head instead of auto-generated. (depending on hair style of course). Of course, maybe I am just too much noob to know what's all possible with the generator-way. :>

I had a girlfriend who once wanted me to shave her head…so out came the scissors and razor…and an hour later there she was – Miss Baldie. The only problem, apart from the cold, was everyone thought she was a leukemia victim. There’s something sci-fi about bald women…

Any chance that will see a black dude Conti…

Here's what I made with a few clicks:

But still, that lack of anti-aliasing support is a shit :yuck: buffer > geometry :?

See? Bald-ies are much retro.

Making the texture moar brown-ish will solve the issue? :P

---------------------------EDIT

And here's a WIPie of MR's Cassidy remake:

Damn, file is 6 months old! :o Guy we're talking about lately is a side effect of the remake - I made him from this mesh.

I like it so far. But a tad moar hair :P

Cool shit that. But really, soon we need some female, for variation! :>

I am actually starting to accept Continuum's work as true.
Pretty good stuff.

Also for everyone's information the NEW BLENDER is out and in BETA. 2.53.

I just downloaded the 64Bit edition and hope to help out with the the talking heads more often.

Yeah, some day I'll pimp that female (as well as Mr. Whip) from the beginning of this thread. But first I must finish with Mr. Gaybrow. At least with modeling and texturing.

He reminds me of Chuck Conners…
He should remind of this one, since aim was to match new head as close as possible to the old one :P + certain add-ons, like metal-ish plate in the head (uber retro terminator).

Here's more or less final version of Mr. Gaybrow:

and 228 colors...

I'm not planning to animate him right now, so I'll pimp the stuff here and there some other time.

That's what I call nifty. Definitive.

/Edit: Add some scratch to his white shirt, to make it look a tad older, I'd say. (Not many or too much, only a little bit)

Thanks for the explanation Continuum, i now completely understand the problem... :look: ... :P

Great stuff with 'Mr. Gaybrow', the goggles are a very nice touch, so much so that perhaps it would look very cool if the guy wore them over his eyes, no? :wiggle:
