Talking Heads

I like it on the forehead. Also it covers the gaybrows a bit. :P

And here's a WIPie of MR's Cassidy remake:

Damn, file is 6 months old! :o Guy we're talking about lately is a side effect of the remake - I made him from this mesh.

Any chance of the new and improved Cassidy ever seeing completion? It looks awesome. Just remember to make the fucker look old and weathered, as the game describes him as an old guy with deep wrinkles along his face. Oh, and he's got a metal plate in his head and a fake eye. But I think the base you have is perfect.

If the head ever gets completed, I'll see to it that he gets his voice files.

Thanks guys!

Thanks for the explanation Continuum, i now completely understand the problem... :look: ... :P
At your service.

perhaps it would look very cool if the guy wore them over his eyes, no? :wiggle:
Goggles can be easily moved.

I thought they're fixed now :look:

Yeah, he can be completed. I wasn't sure about new head, so I archived the file. But seems like others think that it's good, so I can slightly pimp what is done already and move into detailing/texturing.

Yeah, I know. Not sure how large this metal-ish plate should be... Half of the forehead?

Dunno. But I like it on the forehead anyway. :) In worst case, you can do two versions of him. :P

By the way... if you need to animate him, what about the animations you have done for some other, older talking head long time ago?

I'd put it off to one side of the head or the other (perhaps the opposite side from whichever eye you decide to make glass. I tried to find some reference photos, but couldn't come up with much, until I remember the character Chop Top from Texas Chainsaw Massacre II:

I wouldn't make it as big as his, but at least it's something to reference.

Not going to work with the way I'm doing THs.

Animating TH isn't hard, or very time consuming, so you can easily do it from the scratch. It's rather a boring task. Of course, you can't forget about stupid, dirty work you must do in PS with every single frame to fix whole frame moving syndrome (different dither on each frame). Welcome to the world of 228 colors, some proper conversions, and all this past-gen blahs blahs blahs.

Not a model. Each image (frame) after rendering must be converted* + manually pimped to fix different dither on each frame, which means careful clearing of non-animated areas in PS.

Anyway, it's a WIPie time!

Been messing with different position of lights and with metal-ish plate in the head. I used hair system for the eyebrows instead of diffuse + bump (but I'm not sure how animation of them will look). They're at the front, so there will be no problems with anti-aliasing. I pulled the camera back, so the head itself is smaller, but moar of the armour is visible, which has been stolen from Mr. Whip, but I changed it slightly (source files for the win!). Right now he's temporary powered by color map also stolen from Mr. Whip, and there's no any details on the skin.

Not sure which one is better... old one, or the new one

* to prevent a serious FRM fuck up. Exactly this shit happened to the old Cassidy's head - AWFUL conversion.

I think the new one looks better. About light positions, I am not sure if I would like first or second more. Maybe second.

That is definitely a big improvement for Cassidy's TH

If you don't mind me saying, I just couldn't take the other one seriously, with it's jumpy mood transitions and such. But if you aren't adverse to commentary, one of MR. WIPie's eye pupils should be bright green or light blue, to show that it's clearly a fake. Do-able? :drunk:

Conti – don’t you want to add some wrinkles/creases in his forehead, the man is meant to be about 60, and currently he looks about 25. All so maybe his skin needs more specularity, to give him a sweaty look…just saying.

What? i didn't know this! Cassidy was supposed to look like this or something?:

:P

Anyway, the TH is coming out very nice! (not too much of a fan of the metal plate and fake eye stuff though...)

In some of his more obscure text combat floats, he makes reference to numerous scars he's gotten over the years, including the fact that he had a metal plate put in his head, and that one of his eyes is false.

It's a plain mesh, no bump, Pixie. For now, of course. Bump map with wrinkles/details is must have thing for every TH. Also, I desaturated the skin color, but look at Decker - he's full of contrast. I'm

Yeah, some sort of uber retro western post-apoc terminator.

Isn't Fallout about referencing pop culture? :wiggle: And Terminator is a perfect target, since it's showing post apocalyptic future, where human race is struggling against the machines!

Done:

Clothes/heads are designed to be fully interchangeable between each other - import/merge, hit render button and voila!

First one looks focking evil.

Now we need at least one 100% finished. :P

Mr. Whip is. He only needs little a bit tweaking with lights and skin, but animations will remain the same. Also, you can use a still as perfect placeholder. Getting the voice may take +/- 3 years, so there's no reason to hurry :P

---------------------EDIT

Isn't Mr. Gaybrow good for the Vic, especially with that goggles? I think he's looking stupid enough. Of course, I don't give a shit about his fat and retarded critter. Maybe it's time to fix the shitty design :wiggle:

Damn, yes! (second image i mean, with short hair)
Also, i have one idea for Vic's TH - put him some pencil behind the ear, Continuum. It's technician's attribute. :)

Hey, and look at first videoscene in FO2 (intro), there is Vault Tec logo on the goggles. That may be great improvement - but your talking heads looks great even now.
