Team Fortress 2

CSS sucked compared to CS, dude. if you stuck with CSS, you can grow to like TF2, i'm sure.

as for random? sometimes you hit a stroke of bad luck, sure, but skill does matter. it just seems more random at the start, but it sure pays off on the long run.

If you're worried about "hackers", which I've never seen one of the entire time I've played TF2, just find good somewhat bigger name servers, look up Lotus servers, I've played on those tons and have never once seen a cheater of any kind.

I recently acquired the copy to my later as it turned out regret. I find it extremely random and impossible to master. I played it for sometime and found myself once having a score of 30 and later 1 both in 2 hours. The gameplay is getting boring really quickly (and thats for someone who has been playing one map in CSS for the last 4 years). Also, there's a great bunch of wallhackers on every server as it takes one minute to find one and install. However, I do like the cartoony graphics and a funny touch to the game.

"Random?" It's a FPS... what were you expecting?

If you were only able to get that score in that amount of time, I'd say that you're skills are probably lacking, rather than any aspect of the game design.

Some of the maps do suck (I'm looking at you 2fort) but most of them are great, and I've never really seen much hacking / cheating, as long as you find some decent servers to play on.

OK, I'm gonna give it another try on other servers as I admit I was playing only for 4 hours or so (hence my skills in that game may indeed be lacking ) Well, Su i think CSS is superior to CS 1.6 so I think we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. rcorporon, i meant 'random' as if there are 30 people rushing on opposite 30 shooting forward and screaming "MEDIC!" or "WE NEED MORE F*** MEDS LESS SOLDIERS". +Pure luck takes a greater part in this game rather than for example CSS where skills matter more.

Considering the "war" Valve is running now, it may not be the best time to be playing TF2 as a noob either.

Yeah, but it also means that every server is just soldier vs demos right now.

I started playing TF2 right after the scout updated shipped, and was nearly turned off of the game aftering facing a team of 6 scouts who all had the Sandman.

1.5 (ie pre-steam) is still the best version of CS but seeing as it can't be played online... I agree though, the intricacies of CSS are completely different than CS and take a lot of relearning (to this day I still don't understand how it deals with wall shots T_T). The worst thing is that unless you know of a 1.6 server, finding one that isn't just a random redirect server is a bitch.

The random crits take quite a bit of getting used to and I'm still not sure how much I like them. If you've played other FPSes then the weapon accuracy shouldn't be a problem to get used to.

Yeah, once the war is over and before the next update comes out will be the best time to be playing. You can be eternally thankful that unlocks are no longer achievement based, not sure who originally came up with that genius idea. It's almost as smart as the Battlefield series system. Granted, they still don't do what they should and just give everyone all of the new weapons...

well, i can see what he means tbfh. in CSS, a skillfully placed headshot means a dead opponent, no matter what.

in TF2, this simply isn't the case. skill in TF2 doesn't really comes from a single aimed shot, but rather the way you move, exploit other classes' weaknesses and make use of your own strengths, use the environment, use specific weapon traits,...

this at first looks very random, but once you understand the game better, you see that it takes skill to constantly perform well.

edit: finally: http://www.teamfortress.com/crafting/

SuAside you're right about that. It also much easier to get killed in CSS so you must take more realistic approach to game. I also think TF2 is more casual to be honest which is good because there arent only 15 yo kids on the servers who play the game for 8 hours a day.

rcorporon: I know your pain about the Scout. There's nothing worse in TF2 than meeting two good Scout players working together.

As for the crafting stuff...I've been discarding all the surplus stuff I have gotten, so this catches me a bit off-guard. And despite my way-too-long playing times, I still don't have a single hat.

Considering my main class is heavy, I loathed facing four or five scouts all equipped with "the Sandman" wrecking my shit.

Brave men and wo... less manly men of the Alliance- grab your rawkit lawnchair and shovel and go kill those pesky drunken cyclops who can't do shit without spamming their stickies.
THE VICTORY SHALL BE OURS!

I have been preparing for this. Currently have 5 of every weapon except the sandvich.

off guard? they've been talking about crafting for ages!

Where? On the Steam forums? In an old blog post? I'm one of those that rarely visit the Steam forums (for obvious reasons) and it's only recently that I started reading the TF2 blog.

So yeah, off guard. I'm certain that I'm not the only one either.

And just to keep it straight, I have the Halloween hats and the halo, but at least I had a fair chance of getting those. As for hat drops...nothing.
