It has been happening since Fallout 3. So I am not surprised. This is the fate of every franchise under bethesda wings. Elder scrolls will be next.

Let's just hope other game companies are not nearly as retarded as bethesda.

Ps: I also hate Farcryout 4 cosplays because they remind me of this crap.
 
I don't think its bad that Fallout 4 has merchandise at all. For kids yeah that stupid but Bethesda din't make this or licence it so in all fact this is probably illegal or something. But i do get the point that Fallout 4 only really appeals to kids these days but I mean dam that like all games these days. I think the real problem is Bethesda plays up to this but making their game so childish. I don't think its about the target audience I think its the fact that Fallout really isn't matured generally speaking. Everything is overall not matured like quest dialogue themes ect.

Its also embarrassing as well when its tries to act self aware in Nuka world like we know you can only be good in main game so here we're forcing you to be 'Bad'. Its just really stupid to be honest

I'm not too worried about the Fallout Merch, but it does speak volumes.
If this was a well thought out game with tonnes of personality and themes, I wouldn't mind so much.

The problem however comes from how Bethesda has treated this IP.
They have this franchise which could do good things (like we saw with New Vegas) yet they would rather squash any potential it has and give us the barebones of what they could do.

Fallout 4 is nothing more than the foundation of what Bethesda is trying to sell. They now want Halloween costumes for 9 year olds and monopoly sets because that's how they see the franchise.

I'm under the impression that Bethesda don't care for Fallout at all, they care for the audience it brings.
I think they actually give a shit about Elder Scrolls as at least that's had some decent merch (like the lore books they released).

I would be happy with a Fallout comic or novel, but Bethesda feel like the audience is too stupid for that.

It saddens me because this series can do good things, we've seen it do good things with three amazing and near perfect games, yet now it just seems like a slap in the face to anyone that cared enough for the series to stick with it.

If this was merch for Fallout 1 than fine... a bit tasteless but at least that was merch to help with a game.

All this is is a game to help sell merch.

I think Beth is new to the whole branding thing, and it wouldn't surprise me that it hadn't occurred to them. OTOH, there would be a lot of haggling over the licensing, and Marvel is in a pretty strong position right now. For a quality series Dark Horse or one of the indies would be a better bet, but they're probably not mainstream enough for Zenimax. And quality doesn't fit neatly into a spreadsheet.

I think merchandising can be cool if it's done tastefully and doesn't flood the market. I'd probably rather have Zenimax manage the IP and farm out the game dev, though again, I don't trust their judgement and we'd probably see some truly horrible releases if that happened.

It's an 18 rated game and they have children's Halloween costumes. Think about it, think about who they're marketing this franchise towards now.

Vault boy's mangled corpse being paraded around by Bethesda, I would feel bad for him if it hadn't been for the fact that I want to deck him after seeing the little bastard's animated face everywhere in the game. Hey, for Todd and the gang hookers and blow aren't going to buy themselves, gotta make a quick buck somehow.
