The Dishonored Thread

I like the setting, but the superpower stuff, the generic gimmicks and that annoying voice actor that you hear when he talks about helping the prisoner escape is putting me of.

It's not Bethesda, they merely publish it, it's Arkane Studios. They made Arx Fatalis and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, two really good games. Plus I liked the trailer, the setting seems nice, so looking forward to seeing some gameplay. Even if it turns out to be just steampunk Human Revolution WITH MAGIC I'll probably be satisfied.

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic

I'm interested in anything these guys are behind, since Dark Messiah is one of the better games I've played in recent years. it has its flaws, but it has a pretty great atmosphere and the best damn first-person combat system I've ever seen.

Looks neat, and it's not being developed by Bethesda, so it has promise in that regard.

'Course, a CG trailer proves nothing. I'll reserve judgement until I see in-game action.

Well apart from the lack of fantasy races and the medieval vs industrial revolution thing. :V

More Bioshock crossed with Half Life 2 I feel, ye olde Combine APCs and such.

Some of the dev videos have some nice snippets of gameplay and the ingame enviroments which do look pretty nice.

It seems pretty cool judging from the current previews. It's kind of described like a combination of Deus Ex or Hitman's open-ended levels, Thief's stealth mechanics, and Dark Messiah's first person combat. There is also no regenerating health which pleases me greatly. Hopefully the gameplay will actually look good in action at E3. They could still screw this up somehow, but if they don't this'll be the first good thing Bethesda has published.

EDIT: Here's a pretty decent preview of the game from RPS.

The settings do seem suspiciously similar.

Only in there being a steampunk element.

One of the joys of Arcanum's setting was that it "industrialised" what could otherwise be a fairly generic high fantasy setting and through that developed a number of themes.

In contrast from the little we've seen so far this looks to be a fairly standard steampunk style setting... interesting to look at of course but without (at first glance) some of the more interesting points that can be developed.

While steampunk might not be a setting/set of imagery that has a huge number of appearances in games it's a distinct genre in its own right... and any media that fits within that genre will likely share imagery and setting similarities.

Eh, it doesn't look that steampunkish to me. The architecture and the clothing is Victorian and all, but the tech seems to be less brass gears and cogs and pipes with steam coiling out of them and more blackened steel and electricity.

Why so many hookers? It's not even funny.
The level they've been showing is a brothel, so I'd assume there should be a copious amount of scantily clad prostitutes.

Yeah, looks pretty neat-o. I wasn't the biggest fan of Dark Messiah, but I sure did love Arx Fatalis/Thief/Bioshock.
