The Fallout TV show is way sexier than the games [Kotaku]

basically, ignoring romance in games is something that sticks out pretty big in many games.
That's still has fuck all to do with good writing. Plenty of games with really badly written romances, so i don't get the correlation between a game having romances and having good writing.

Fallout 1 and 2 are way sexier and sex-positive than Fallout 3 and 4.

You can sleep with Sinthia and Keri Lee in Fallout.

It also can get far darker with the fact you can actually sexually extort a woman outside Vault City and pimp your bride.

Not to mention bang both Mrs. Bishop and her daughter.

Oh and be a porn star.

Few of those options are moral ones, need I remind you. (The Porn Star status was also supposed to be the evil alternative to Prizefighter, so there's that.)

I give props for the fact that Lucy is a healthy well-adjusted sexually mature adult while Maximus is obviously an awkward virgin.

You mean the woman who, up until the marriage on the table, was alright with incest?

Weebs and Bioware have ruined RPGs forever with this romance shit. Now all these dried up catladies want romances in anything vaguely resembling an RPG.

I remember when Reaxxion was still around, one of their article headlines was 'If you enjoy Bioware romance plots, you need to get laid'. Still worth a read as some kind of contrast to what Kotaku just put out.

And I love this line from the article: "Both Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age: Origins (released around the same time) give me the impression that no one at BioWare has ever had sex without paying for it."

It's weird they don't advocate Maximus or Cooper being gay but the conventionally attractive woman who explicitly needs to be heterosexual as part of her character arc.

Notably, it wouldn't work with Cooper either for the major role of his family but this is a bit like the uproar over Tara in Buffy the Vampire Slayer or the fact Dragon Age's Cassandra's fans were angry that Serah was gay but she was straight.

The activism is covering for fanfic shipping.

All this talk about sex stuff is dodging the fact that the show itself is actually extremely tame when it comes to sexual content. I think the first episode is when Ella Purnell is the most disrobed, which is fine. The one scene with the most topless nudity in it is gross and off-putting intentionally. All the disgusting sexual content is purely conceptual and just setting up unfunny punchlines for bad jokes that go nowhere. I don't blame some people for wanting Lucy to be a lesbian because overall there's a near total lack of queerness. Dane being a trans man is accepted without drawing attention to it, even, which was the right choice. But that's not really the same thing. Affirming someone's gender identity isn't "sexy."

For a show that's supposedly so liberal and progressive it's actually pretty reactionary and socially conservative as far as the creative industries go. In Fallout TV politics don't matter and the most important thing in the world is family, even if it's "found family." Give me a fucking break. Like we haven't already seen that a million times before.

I wish the Fallout TV show was instead better than the good Fallout games (1, 2 and New Vegas).

Its hard to take seriously anyone who makes that argument. Especially when the three listed are so wildly divergent.

NV has way more in common with Fallout 3 than the first 2 and the first 2 have wildly divergent tones, writing, and lore.

New Vegas is in the line of the original games because it understands that Fallout is a story about people and not a story about being a post-apocalyptic tourist.

New Vegas has way more common with Fallout 1 and 2 than Fallout 3. Fallout 3 and New Vegas sharing the same bad gameplay doesn't make them similar at all when in everything else they are entirely different.

I don't know why you keep repeating that Fallout 3 and New Vegas have a lot in common, but you're wrong.

Righhhht.

I mean, Fallout 3 is a retelling of Fallout 1 and 2 but people ignore that too.

I couldn't play Wasteland 2 or 3 because of the similarity and I hate that.

Yes, right. Actual respect for the license, actually advances the setting like Fallout 1 and 2 did, actual roleplaying with multiple meaningful solutions to the main quest and side quests, actual good writing, tone much more similar to 1 and 2, actually gives a shit. Fallout 3 doesn't have any of this.

And you are also wrong here. Horribly mishmashing the plots of two previous games while acknowledging that they fucking happened in the same continuity is NOT a retelling. It's instead called being creatively bankrupt.

They don't ignore that. F3s lack of original plot is a common criticism.

Even if it was an actual true retelling, it would still be a shitty one because the end result in Fallout 3 has none of the good writing in Fallout 1 and 2's stories.

So, congrats, Bethesda, you retold the plots of Fallout 1 and 2, except really badly.

To me, BG2 was at least somewhat believable romance.
I really didn't like the BG2 romance either.

Aerie is anime shit, same as Liara from Mass Effect. "Tee hee I may look and act like a teenager, but I'm really a super special race of whatever and more than 100 years old. Put a baby in me!"

Jaheira romance is super weird because they murder her husband in the beginning, and even have him show up later to say he's good with you fucking his wife. The content of the romance was otherwise most notable for it's length and being buggy, not being particularly good and mostly for people with a mom-fetish.

It all sounds like it would be most at home in a pervy Japanese hentai visual novel. It's not good, very bad.

I only played once, so don't know about the others. Anomen sounds more like standard romance novel "milady" crap.
