The Guns and Ammo Thread

Yeah....how'd that work out for ya?

Not bad brah, not bad.

Got the opportunity to fire one of these today at work.

The moment i pressed the trigger a scorching hot bullet case made contact with my cornea. Apparently, left handed people are not supposed to use said gun. Silly me. And God bless the lovely manufacturer.

What is the designation/who makes it?

20 years ago, it would have been easy to figure out what bullpup that was (Norinco, AUG, FAMAS, SA80)
its none of those, but has a FAMAS style sight/handguard and STANAG mag well.

I am a lefty too... I owned a Bushmaster M17s for a while. it was ok, if I was using a low power scope from my right shoulder. Shooting it Left handed it was stupid.

I got it from a friend of my brother. This guy liked to break his guns and then sell them cheap. I got the bushmaster for $200 because he had a broken spring that resets the trigger (and needed graphite lube on the transfer bar)

I got a Tec-22 scorpion with a broken firing pin from him for $100. $13 firing pin and it was ready to rock and roll (as well as a .22 can)

When it comes to bullpup what you need is a Steyr AUG, it has a selection mechanism for left handed people so the cases fly in the opposite direction. Argentine armed and security forces have a few of them, never fired it myself tho. The Argentine Army even got a few thrown in for free by the austrians when we bought some SK-105 from them.

ah ok.. makes more sense

I think it would be quite a feat to get one of those into the USA without lots of paperwork (import) plus dept. demo letterhead for law enforcement who really wanted to demo it in a "competitive trial".

What do you think of the Croat PSP? Edit: PSP pistol
What magazines do they use?
http://world.guns.ru/handguns/hg/hr/php-e.html

There are some good deals on them here (for a rare pistol) but there are no spare mags and nobody seems to know what mag was used for it?

Its supposedly based on the Beretta 92 and theP-38

Oh? I never heard of any specifically croatian made H&K knockoffs. Maybe it's just my knowledge that's limited but i really don't know about those.

EDIT: Also, since it's a knockoff, and a yugoslavian one as it seems, i really wouldn't go there. There are some great knockoffs like russian TT and various AKs but there were also some really really shitty ones ("shitty" as in "there's a good chance you could lose your index finger"). But as i said before, i never even heard about this one so....

The most tedious part of gun ownership for me is cleaning. But some of my guns are getting so nasty that I am going to start needing to wear coveralls if I am going to shoot them. So today I grit my teeth and started cleaning things that have not been cleaned in six months or more.

Here is round one:

Revolvers take the longest, most of the time being dedicated to clearing off the powder discoloration on the front of the cylinder. Since this is purely cosmetic and a real time-consuming PITA, I only do it once a year. Still, awefully proud of the shine:

Isn't Fabrique Nationale also big on ambidextrous firearms? I recall the F2000 and its civilian version (FS?) having a forward-ejecting port, precisely so that everyone can use it.

Yup, I believe that's right, however I don't think we have many, if any, F2000's here, the only FN small arms in our armed and security forces are the FN FAL in several of it's versions, the FN MAG and the Browning HP.

You own not one but 2 G36s? Are they converted SL8s or the real deal?
Care to make better pics?

Dude, no, just no!

Zen & the art of weapons maintenance...

I typically spend between 1 and 3 hours cleaning my guns each weekend on sunday evening. Put on the tv (usually watching House), open a nice trappist and start cleaning.

It totally mellows me out.

Yes, all recent FN rifles are ambidextrous (or at least very lefty friendly). The only exception being the FNAR which throws brass into a lefty's face.

My policy usually has been that of always cleaning before and after use, rather than having a specific day of the week.

But then again I come from military experience rather than civilian ownership, and we usually made use of our weapons in one way or another at least one or more times a week.

Now working in law enforcement in a desk job where my sidearm is probably more of a formality than anything else (unless rare ocational guard duty) then yes, at least once a week do a complete clean up and check up of every single mechanism. After all, I may actually need the dang thing to save my life one day and I don't want it to fail in a critical moment.

Given the ever increasing size of your collection, you'll come around soon enough.

At this point in my life, if I reliably have three hours of free time each week, I am going to use it to sleep.

I spent a fair chunk of time in the service myself. These days, the only weapons that accompany me to work are my razor sharp wit and roguish charm. However, off the clock I carry a personal sidearm every day, and I can assure you that my self defense guns get cleaned any time they are shot.

I can tell you that working at a range and participating in the combat shooting sports have taught me the difference between a gun being 'clean' and a gun being maintained. My guns are put to pretty hard use, but they are not abused, and they are lubricated as necessary. They get religiously cleaned any time they get wet or muddy. Failing that, they may get a shot of lube and a bore snake passed through them every month or so. Detail cleanings only come when I have time and necessity. If something fails on me at the range because of dirt, it goes back in the bag and gets rotated out of circulation until I have the time to clean it.

I'd like to say that if I had the time that SuA has once a week, all my guns would be spotless. But that would be a lie.

:D

Makes sense, but unless you're shooting corrosive ammo, it's not really an issue to let your weapons sit dirty a while.

Zealous cleaning is hardly necessary with modern weapons and ammunition, but it's a good way to chill out for me. So Zen. :)

Well, I only "dirty" one or two guns per week. So I can manage.

The thing is that sunday evening is the only evening where I can crash in front of the TV and watch House (or another series). Might just as well use that time cleaning my guns.

There's indeed a big difference between cleaned & maintained. A gun might be dirty, but well maintained.

Add to that the fact that most guns I've seen with a fucked bore are not from heavy use, but improper overzealous cleaning...
