The Insidious Design Of Modern Fallout Games

Charwo

Look, Ma! Two Heads!
You know I came to this forum because I hate Fallout 4. I've never liked Bethesda games, and I want to show you a video that finally showed me why I don't like Bethesda games.

And here you have it. Bethesda isn't artistically bankrupt and doesn't know what to do with Fallout, they know EXACTLY what they want to do with it. It also explains why Fallout 4 was so lazily designed: they're not incompetent, they don't care. And I don't like Bethesda games because I'm immune or highly resistant to operative conditioning; at least insofar that that no shiny reward is going to make me not loathe dungeon crawling. We want me to be happy, reward me on schedule and never have it be anything but predictable. It's why I build my own guns in Borderlands 2.

When Todd Howard said "If Fallout 4 sucks, blame our ambition," he wasn't talking about the quality of the story or any sort of meaningful choice, he was talking about the scale and perfection of the reward schedule. That's why the locations of the bobbleheads and magazines aren't marked: they are a jackpot in the reward schedule. The fact that pipe pistols are in pre-war safes isn't an oversight: it's not important that lore remains consistent, only the tier of reward schedule.

I think it behooves all of us to never buy another Bethesda product. It's not their artistic bankruptcy making them cynical, it's their cynicism that makes them artistically bankrupt. And I'm all for cynicism until it breeds apathy, but once it does, that cynicism becomes less than useless.

God, if that guy would just get to the fucking point. That video could easily be half as long, and the "ominous" 800% slowed music and conspiracy theory-like bollocks are laughable.
Pseudo-intellectual, more or less trivial and hilarious when he whips himself into a frenzy over addiction and whatnot.
He's not wrong, but he's a massive douchebag, and the whole LOOKATMEIMSOSMARTITOOKTHEREDPILLOFGAMEDESIGNS thing is just annoying. I hate it when people with severely uncharismatic voices try to sound ominous, too.

There's a known Youtube algorithm which determines the likeliness of a video showing up in the "related videos" section. The algorithm is determined by the length of the video, and the amount of minutes watched per viewing. Meaning that, the longer your video is: and the more capable it is of drawing out the audience's attention span, the more likely it is to be popular.

Funny how a video talking about Bethesda's "insidious design" is about twenty seven minutes long, laden with pointless anecdotes, and filled with mostly unrelated gameplay.

Stopped halfway, spent way too long on the build-up.
The whole video could have been explained in a sentence.
Also, there's nothing wrong with making a game like how Bethesda does (people will disagree but who cares) games are there to be enjoyed and distract us for a while.

The problem is how they design Fallout.

No, the problem is how they design Fallout and Elder Scrolls.

Bethesda's game-play philosophy could be used on a completely new series that they create intentionally to be a fun-little consequence free sandbox, but instead they decided to shit on two already existing series.

And both were rich with story and lore. And relied on the writing as a big part of their IPs.

Well, if they don't know if the new IP would be successful or not, but if it has a "Fallout" or "Elder scroll" tag on, there would be some core fans buy it.

Just like that Mass effect sequal, of those Final Fantasy series

I think Bethesda should be making Borderlands, at least Fallout 4 isn't as stupid as Gearbox's games.

Hey, I think they knocked it out of the park with Borderlands 2. The story was great, it was funny, Assualt on Dungeon Keep was everything on why I don't ever want to play tabletop ever again. I liked Borderlands 2 a hell of a lot better than Fallout 4: the weapons where more vaied and unique, the shooting was better, the loot system was better, the writing was better, it had vechiles and special mechanics and you could climb ladders.

Ironically, it strongly looks as if Fallout: New Vegas, essentially, advocates narcotics, prostitution and gambling, among other things, by creating, considering the context, a ridiculous and implausible faction like Caesar's Legion, who dislikes them, and by lumping such dislikes with various atrocious and absurd contradictions, along with ridiculous-looking armor. All things considered, including that there is something rotten in Fallout: New Vegas, it's as if the players are meant to form a psychological association between these characteristics, which makes it stupid and malicious garbage.

This is not meant to advocate any other Fallout title in particular, but to say that there is something that stinks about Fallout: New Vegas, anyway.

A bunch of people in that thread proved time and time again how your arguments are either flawed or outright wrong, but you still think this? At this point i'm pretty sure you're just a troll.

Not getting enough responses in your "discussion" thread?

They took a game bloated with DLC, and with damage sponges, and then went 'fuck it, more DLC and damage sponges'.

And loot better?

I could get like 30 oranges in an hour in borderlands 1, in Borderlands 2, I found 2, in total, after being the game.

Yeah, we get it. Not sure where you're getting the whole "advocates narcotics" from in particular for NV, since every Fallout game has involved a lot of drugs so far, although no game allowed you to smoke tobacco or marijuana.
Unless, of course, you adhere to Tiamin's ridiculous theory of "deceitful marijuana promotion" or whatever.

Which I am convinced it is just a double account of Brycen. They both have their profiles "private" (which almost no one does), they were registered with three days difference. Brycen came here talking about this advocates narcotics thing in FNV and 4 hours later (after no one paid any attention to it) an article about it appears, all the conspiracy theories, even the article writing style is the same.

The account's are not set private, at least not for me. Sadly, there's no proof for any of this, so nothing can be done.

I think Admins bypass private settings.

True. Anyway, I can't find anything suspicious besides both using IPs from Europe.

I was just saying that for people in the future to keep in mind. They are not spreading, it is probably just the one. :lmao:
I just don't understand why make several accounts but post pretty much the same thing with them.
