The Nintendo Switch - Press Conference

Does this thing even have a Touchscreen? If it doesn't then Wonderful 101 and Mario Maker would need a rework (specially Wonderful 101).

I'm not sure but those games could definitely be designed for other control schemes.

Oh shit... Nintendo messed up royally.

You know of PS plus, don't you?

Well they decided to do something similar but worse.

You will have to pay monthly for access to multiplayer on the internet. And it will give you a game to play for a month, which will be taken away from you next month.

And the worst things of all instead of headphones and such to comunicate you will have to use... smartphone.

Idiots, my intrest in this console dropped like crazy.

I wish I could like Nintendo, I really do, they're one of the few companies out there which isn't total bullshit.

But after what they did to Metroid... ;(

You got the 2d games, then the EXCELLENT Prime series, and then...Poof, two shitty games, and now the series is basically dead.

Way to go killing off the sexiest Nintendo Babe ever made.

Looking foward for Switch getting emulated soon enough to play these games on devices like GDP Win.

I saw that after the presentation. I don't use Nintendo's online, much less XBOX's, but those who do will certainly get up in arms about it. Still, since I'm getting Mario Kart 8, I may take the WiiU version instead considering this.

Yeah. A six-year-old game is getting sold at full price again, likely with gimmicky features added in, and after they touted an "HD remaster" of this same game on the 8th gen consoles.

Street Fighter 2 Ultra, people now want this kind of thing? Didn't people use to make fun of Capcom for that?

Was this posted?

Nobody did, thanks for the info. So, let's see, what is coming up for this console, that interests me?

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Fall 2017) - Hahahaha! What a load of bullshit. Seriously, they keep on rehashing skyrim for everything. What a joke of a company it is. I cannot wait to see all the same bugs in vanilla, console bricking up and all sorts of unpleasant stuff. Hopefully, it will make bethesha look even worse.

Shin Megami Tensei - TBA. I guess, I will wait.

Minecraft - well, I guess, now everyone can play this game. I personally can not see the apeal of it, but I guess, now people can play this game, without wasting their phone battery. At least the controls should be better than a touch screen.

Rayman Legends - I prefered the 3D titles, that were released years ago. This game never captured me, I am afraid. It is good, from what I heard, but way too goofy for me.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 - yeah, not buying this one. I had an opportunity to play the first game and got bored quickly (did not buy it). It was way too grindy and the camera confusing. More of the same.

So far, I cannot see that many games that actually interest me, to be perfectly honest.

Do they still render four screens in Mario Kart 8 on Switch just like they did on Wii U?

This Nintendo rant goes slightly off topic, but it might help to understand console launches over the years and how they have changed. Some have said this is one of their weakest launches yet, but they might not have been around for the SNES and N64. I never buy systems at launch these days but they have always been bad. Typically launch titles are pretty weak with one or two standout titles and a bunch of mediocre ones. SNES had this at the US launch:

F-Zero
Gradius III
Pilotwings
SimCity
Super Mario World

Which is definitely ok, but that was not much. Only Super Mario World, F-Zero, and Simcity are the winners there. The other two are good at least with Gradius III probably being the lest memorable due to it being a third entry in a niche series. The original Playstation had a shitty launch that by today's standards is laughable with the bolded being especially forgettable:

Battle Arena Toshinden
ESPN Extreme Games
Kileak: The DNA Imperative

NBA Jam Tournament Edition
Power Serve 3D Tennis
The Raiden Project

Rayman
Ridge Racer
Street Fighter: The Movie
Total Eclipse Turbo

Aside from Ridge Racer, Rayman, and Battle Arena Toshinden, you have nothing there. Even those entries are forgettable with later sequels being better executions of the same concept. No one broke their back to buy the Playstation at launch. It wasn't until Final Fantasy VII and Resident Evil started coming out that people flipped.

What did Nintendo have to compete with during that timeframe with the N64? Well with the US launch they rocked a grand total of two games:

Pilotwings 64
Super Mario 64

Pilotwings was a pretty cool series, but people bought the system for Mario if they got it then. This is a common trend with Nintendo. Typically they will launch with Mario or Zelda. With the Gamecube they chose to go with Luigi's Mansion instead but that was the exception. I remember that game impressing the hell out of me in Toys R Us back in the day. The Gamecube really was a great system, but it just couldn't compete with the sheer amount of titles that the PS2 pumped out. The PS2 launch wasn't even that great, but as usual Nintendo launched their system after Sony, so they went up against a fully powered Sony juggernaut and the newly formed Xbox. The Wii started a fad with a unique gimmick which they tried to replicate with the Wii U, despite there being a number of good games for the console, they failed horribly.

Now the Switch will launch with one of the most anticipated Zelda entries in years and that is about it, but you can also get that on the Wii U which no one except me bought apparently. I actually feel like they have most of their people working on it or have at various points. They do have a couple of their main teams on secret projects, with the Mario Kart 8 lead being on one of those.

Probably Animal Crossing related. Come to think of it, that would take advantage of the mobile aspect of the console most likely...probably make you go out in the sun or some shit. There is that Quality of Life stuff they were going on about. /s

The Japanese launch gets a couple other good games with it, but that won't change the vast majorities opinion. Some have theorized that they are staggering out their releases to avoid what happened with the Wii U gaming drought, which I tend to agree with. They only need to beat the Xbox One, but they can't even do that because they lack competitive FPS titles. They are trying to change that with Splatoon, but they need at least one or two other original IP's to fill that hole. Selling a lot in Japan won't cut it. People keep clamoring for Metroid, but that won't sell systems either. People wanted Star Fox and they got it and moved on indifferent to what they got. Sometimes the loudest fans don't amount to sales. People always talked about that game and it sold like shit. It leads me to believe that some of it is nostalgia with no real intent on buying the product. That and the game was average.

This probably confused Nintendo not knowing that most people hated the motion control scheme on the Wii U, not necessarily the games. They weren't crazy for it like Miyamoto and his goofy fucking faces he makes while playing with the stuff. Seriously the Wii U is cool, but they failed to use the tablet beyond a couple of games. Forcing people to develop for it doesn't help either.

Right now Nintendo fans want Animal Crossing and Metroid for sure, which I am 99% sure are in the works, but for people like me that won't cut it. I want new IP's like Splatoon, but not that because I want something else. Buy something from someone else, like Konami's entire fucking library. Make some new characters that aren't related to Mario, Kong, Fox, Samus, or Zelda more often. The occasional Pikmin does not cut it.

Here is a list of some of their IP's currently:

Mario Party series
Mario & Luigi series
Mario RPG includes Paper Mario series
The Legend of Zelda series
Metroid series
Pokémon series
Yoshi series
Star Fox series
Animal Crossing series
Fire Emblem series
Kirby series
Nintendo Wars series
Advance Wars series
Pikmin series
Donkey Kong series
Super Smash Bros. series
StarTropics series
Earthbound (Mother) series
The Legendary Starfy series
F-Zero series
Kid Icarus series
Golden Sun series
Wario series
WarioWare series
Punch-Out series
Wii series
Custom Robo series
Chibi-Robo series
Sin and Punishment series
Joy Mech Fight series
Rhythm Heaven series
Wave Race series

Off the top of my head a Pokemon console RPG or MMORPG would be a no brainer. Problem is they need to get some servers that aren't shit to run a MMO. Charging for that is a start and those complaining are part of the reason Nintendo is so slow to change shit. They hate rocking the boat. They like a little change at a time.

It is interesting to see them do Arms instead of PunchOut. Gotta give them props for that. Does anyone think that Wario needs a console entry? It always seemed to me like a good opportunity for Nintendo to let you play the bad guy for real. Do a Bully inspired Wario game where you go around doing fucked up shit. Star Tropics could use a reboot actually. Put Golden Sun into the limelight and try to turn it into the next Final Fantasy. The one thing they always have lacked is a solid RPG franchise that is not tied to some mascot character.

Check this list of unreleased Nintendo games out:

http://www.acriticalhit.com/top-20-games-nintendo-wouldnt-release-in-the-us/

A list like this is an example of how you can bring new titles to the west while appeasing your core fanbase. Devil World for instance has been referenced in Super Smash Brothers but the game never came to the US, even though it is a really cool Pacman clone with dark imagery, which is part of why it never came over here. But why is it still not released over here? There is no dialog to translate.

The Mystery Of Murasame Castle is basically a pre-cursor to Zelda, but it never came over. It is actually really cool and referenced in Smash once again, but no release over here. Why not make a next gen version of this? Wouldn't it be cool to see a samurai game by Nintendo that plays like Zelda?

In that link you can see they thought there was no audience for turn-based games in the US so they never brought over NES Wars which later became Advance Wars. They could be leading the way in turn based RTS games on consoles with Switch, but I doubt they will explore that option. I saw they will release Puyo Puyo Tetris in Japan, but it is not releasing in the US, so that figures.

If they did somehow manage make a new Earthbound (Mother) game though...

If they rocked out good games for their own IP i would be intrested but by this point in time literally all the IP have a million games for them and its getting pretty old. We need something new like a pokemon consol game a star fox game with open adventure like starfox adventure that shit was good. And maybe new animal crossing game. They really also need come up with some new IP they can't bank on a fucking mario game selling fucking consoles ! I mean what the fuck its 2017

People always say they have something secret prepared in reserve, but you can only hear that so many times. Splatoon is a fairly recent new IP and they HAVE TRIED with new stuff it just didn't sell. They just make some really weird choices. It really is funny how since the Wii they have been abandoned. What is bothering me is the fact that I still don't know if this will replace the 3DS and it's lineup?

I think the reasson splatoon didn't sell that well was because of the console its self sold poorly I also think I dind't sell well because it didn't appeal well to older nitendo fans didn't really have any traits of a nintendo game as it was kinda just a shoot really. However I have't played the game so I won't give it any critism than that. But game like that really don't appeal to me the adverts don't appeal to me either. The reasson i like pokemon is because of the characters and story and RPG mechanics where as games like this the are puting out don't feature any of this.

My biggest fault with Nintendo is not putting out enough dam mini NES this fucking console could of sold a fucking bomb if Nintendo actual sorted the supply out ! I mean its literally sold out fucking anywhere. Okay its not going to sell more than xbox one and is alot cheaper but fuck me the could of cashed in millions. If the they optimized sales for the mini nes and combined that with switch sales they would actual be changeling sony and mirco soft because some people get both consoles.

Also if the released a mini SNES i bet they would make fucking tons of money if done properly.

If they could actual get enough stock with the mini nes and mini snes and switch sales I bet they could compete with mircosft and sony. They would literally be selling same number of units i recon maybe even more if you included DS sale.

They could easily charge around £80 for a mini snes system easily and sales would be though the roof.

So yeah I really think they fucked up with the mini nes that was there chance to catch up with sony and mircosoft abit by having a second console albeit only retailing for £50.

But no they under estimated the demanded and fucked a; the potential Christmas sales

just looking at the controller and knowing how gimmicky nintendo is with them, I assumed it was called "switch" because you could reverse the handles on the side and flip it upside down for essentially the same controller that would perhaps control a different character or something besides your character. glad it's not as stupid as I thought, I think it's brilliant this time really. good for them.

it's bizarre that the graphics haven't changed much since 64's days though. am I the only person in the world who thinks mario in new york is really lame? think about this: we never knew that mario was the size of a fire hydrant. we could have never known how big he was b/c there were no real world objects in any of these games to compare him with. and now he's in new york, really creative. that's not the yoshi-riding painting diver I grew up with. what a crock. glad I'm not a kid in these dark, shitty, nightmarish times of unimaginative mario. the other locations in the game look so inconsistent with the new york part too. they also look empty, boring, and devoid of challenge. sidenote: ppl are twice the size of mario, meaning that ppl are twice the size of fire hydrants. great scaling there, nintendo.

I'd really rather megami tensei and xenogears to be continued on playstation, this is actually anti-hype for me. they belong on playstation. zelda alone will make the nintendo switch worth it, they don't need to get real developers to whore out their souls to inferior, gimmicky hardware. nintendo needs gimmicks, however innovative and genius they sometimes are, b/c they've got nothing else besides licenses of great IPs and dated, overpriced hardware that only sells so well b/c ppl have children. so they do something different and market it differently (like, more towards very young children, shamefully enough). older ppl actually have money so nintendo knows we just need a few games to justify the purchase of the system. for gamecube those games were the resident evil remake which didn't belong exclusive to the system, and its prequel resident evil 0. now they have megami tensei and xenogears? to be fair, megami tensei started on the famicon, but it's evolved into something not very nintendo-y and its best games are playstation only. what does this system need with exclusive, highly anticipated rated M games? THE HARDWARE wasn't designed for such games, it's to their detriment to be held back by such standards. but nintendo will pay for it to sell more consoles: they're PAYING to hurt a beloved franchise in hopes that the investment will turn a profit. that's just sick. actually I don't know for certain that it's going down like this, but why else would it be happening? surely the creators of a rated M game wouldn't be so stupid as to release it only for a nintendo console otherwise, right? they have to know they'd sell more on a console which already sits in millions of homes and is more commonly owned by adults?

It seems to me that Nintendo is missing the boat again, and doesn't seem to realize what is causing it.
I know the Wii was a big success for Nintendo but it seemed for me more regarding the gimmick than really the rich assortment of games that appealed to every age group.
Well children are a big market but you won't be attracting gamers who prefer the Xbox or the Playstation.

When I think back on what Nintendo machines I enjoyed the most it is still the SNES and the Gameboy Advance, I only bought a Gamecube and a Wii in order to play the Metroid games on them (what Zelda is for others is Metroid for me), and I only got a handful of other games with them that after finishing them I never played again.

The Switch, I am pretty sure it will appeal to some people but I don't think it will be the Microsoft/Sony beater, the exclusive titles they have are sequels to previous games that though popular will probably not convince many people outside those who were already fans to purchase such a machine even if it is relative inexpensive.

The new Mario, yeah putting it in the "real" world is rather strange and the first comparison I come up with is Sonic Adventure. Here we have a cartoon plumber interacting with real people that also travels to worlds that seem to come from an LSD experience with a strange flying machine.
The fans will probably gobble it up.

I can't say that this console generation really appeals to me, even if I had the money for it.

Wait, they're actually going to release Binding Of Isaac on it?
Didn't Nintendo once reject it for its religious parody?

Also, how come Skyrim gets a release on Switchu but Fallout 4 doesn't? I watch Razorfish bring up some points about its hardware and that it might not be all too powerful and, well, wouldn't it make more sense to release 'both' Skyrim 'and' Fallout 4 on the flicker?
