Man peed way out of avalanche

A Slovak man trapped in his car under an avalanche freed himself by drinking 60 bottles of beer and urinating on the snow to melt it.

Rescue teams found Richard Kral drunk and staggering along a mountain path four days after his Audi car was buried in the Slovak Tatra mountains.

He told them that after the avalanche, he had opened his car window and tried to dig his way out.

But as he dug with his hands, he realised the snow would fill his car before he managed to break through.

He had 60 half-litre bottles of beer in his car as he was going on holiday, and after cracking one open to think about the problem he realised he could urinate on the snow to melt it, local media reported.

He said: "I was scooping the snow from above me and packing it down below the window, and then I peed on it to melt it. It was hard and now my kidneys and liver hurt. But I'm glad the beer I took on holiday turned out to be useful and I managed to get out of there."

Parts of Europe have this week been hit by the heaviest snowfalls since 1941, with some places registering more than ten feet of snow in 24 hours.

Let this be a lesson to everyone, to always remember to bring 30 liters of beer when you're driving in the mountains.

I guess this thread makes up for the one with the "Overdosed hooker" huh? From "drugs are bad for you" to "they can save yer life!"

Drugs may be bad for you, but alcohol has brought nothing but joy to humanity (with the possible exception of Stroh Rum). In this case it even saved a guys life.

Skål!

Hospitals have quite a few people with cirrhosis, who I'm sure would be joyous themselves if you informed them of the fact that alcohol brings "nothing but joy."

Let me get this straight:

Beer actually saved a man's life?

Regardless, I still think it’s gross.

a salute to the slovak!

60 bottles of beer on the wall, 60 bottles of beer

you take one down pass it around,...

I pee so much on an ordinary basis, I don't really think I'd need 30 litres of beer to pee myself out.

it's a salute, not a re-enactment, Nocturne ;)

i'm wondering how much he actually drank to piss his way out. i really dont believe he drank 30 liters of beer... it can't be done without dying from alcohol poisoning... unless it's some softass dutch or english beer (dont get me wrong there are some rather good of both).

30 liters of beer @ >5% alcohol = dehydration & death imo.
(note that we are talking about a short period in time)

Well, it does say that they found him drunk four days after his car was buried, so either it took him quite some time to piss himself out (it shouldn't be too hard to drink 30 liters of beer in 4 days), or he may have brought the rest along for a little hike in the mountains.

A bottle of beer is rarely a whole liter, too.
Most of them are somewhere around 33cl.

Depends on the country you come of.

Countries that have difficulty accepting the fact that beer is anything other than soft drink, like Russia, tend to present them in 1 or, more usual, 2 liter bottles.

Don't know about the Slovaks.

I can understand drinking that much American swill to 'urinate to freedom', but Yuropean beers are so much thicker, -blegh-. I bet he'll have some kidney stones to remember his ordeal by, nevermind the cirrhosis.

A normal bottle of beer is half a liter. At least where I come from. So.. 60x0,5=30 liter, right?

Edit: Well..
