End Note to Moderator's***

A few nights ago I had an incredibly vivid and shocking dream. It was one of those rare dreams that you not only remember, but was rational enough to make sense and not be just a jumble of random things. Unfortunately it was about a very sensitive subject. I had a dream that I, in the future, watched a trailer for Fallout 3, thought about it, and came to NMA to see how everyone else was doing. I strongly remember the trailer, my thoughts, and others reactions.

It went like this;

***

My view was fully of a scene. Although I couldnt see it I could tell it was was on a monitor since the scene was a game. It was a cinematic. There was a non-descript man in travelling gear sitting at a rough wooden table in what looked like a shack. His clothes were dirty and worn, but in good condition. A single electric lamp lit the table where he wiped and appeared to do maintenance on a shotgun. The scene was very tense and got worse as a shrill sound could be heard from outside. The man immediately looked out the window then turned the lamp off and crouched in the corner with the shotgun aimed at the door. The shrill sound could be heard again and outside in the moonlight black shapes flew through the sky. Suddenly the door broke open...a misshapen human being lurched in. Imagine a zombie, but sticking out of the chest was the head of a reptile. It appeared the reptile somehow impaled itself through the zombies chest and had grown intrusions that were controlling it. The man shot the zombie in the chest bowling it over then immediately ran over to the side of the door. As he did another zombie emerged and rather carelessly fired a shot where the man used to be and missed. The man gave this zombie a point blank shot...the zombie died, but his one appeard to have been "impaled" a lot earlier and its flesh had contorted in various place apparently to serve the creature's will. (Think of the headcrabs from Half-Life.) The scene moved outside where the flying black forms were. It showed tehm up close and they were the reptilian creatures with two webbed wings and an extension protruding from the bottom like a claw. One of them closed its wings and dove at the shack crashing through the roof apparently to kill the man and zombiefy him. The man was thrown to the floor from the flying debrey and lay there. As the reptile moved towards him something odd happened. He pressed a button on a device that dangled from a necklace he wore and electric bolts were sent out around him. The killed the reptile...

At this point the view of the scene moved out and away and I could see the monitor and myself in front of it. I could hear my own thought and see the monitor still playing what I realised was the trailer for Fallout 3 in it. I thought many things.

-"Well there are many elements and I like the look of things."
-"Rosh was right...they call it high-end technology, but it looks like magic."
-"I suppose they appear interchangeable, but I'm sure that Bethesda wanted that and was forced to add "magic" for sellability, but gave the explanation that it was just future tech."
-"Yet...being able to throw lightning with gloves? Heal yourself with just your will power? Plus only using those abilites if you have pendants or bracelets which look like little machines and I suppose could pass for nano-technology, but its obvious its a reference to fantasy."
-"Zombies? This isnt right..."
-"I guess the best explanation is that its not future technology, but alien...is that really where they want to take the post-apocolyptic setting?"

As I thought all those things various things flashed on the screen. I saw characters in a montage using some of the abilites I was thinking about. Many of them became surrounded by glowing aura's like magic. It all looked so very like...well Merrowind. Then the screen faded to black and showed the Fallout 3 title.

I saw myself do a bunch of clicking and I could vaguely see the layout of the NMA forums. I dont remember or didnt see which area I went to or what thread I clicked on I saw specific posts. Much was said that generally went;

-"I cant believe this bullshit! Its all fantasy...the only thing I recognize right is the landscape and guns."
-"If they just remove the aura's and all the effects and just leave the equipment that gives you such abilites it will look technological and not like magic."
-"I heard that such tech comes from very deep ruins that were from "before the war and before time" I bet their gonna try and say society re-discovered magic."
-"I wont play this. I dont care."

There were many thoughts. All were disgruntled at the effects though they debated whether it was indeed magic or tech. A few hoped it could be reconciled if it was explained to be alien technology or nano-bots, but most couldnt stomach some explanations. They felt the humans hijacked by the flying reptiles was too much like either necromancy or fringe sci-fi and hard to imagine as real. However some people hopefully reminded everyone that "...it's only the trailer...Bethesda's not saying what it means...well have to wait and see if they have an explanation and maybe if even they'll change it between now and when they produce the game."

I left the thread and went into another one that was clearly marked "Bethesda Press News" or something like that. Therein I found some words from Bethesda saying that Fallout 3 trailer was a celebration for the completion of the game and that it only needs to be mass-produced...they expected to make little changes however if the trailer was recieved well. The replys to this were incredible as I remember who said what;

-Silencer: "I dread this. Its gonna be bad you just watch. The say "slight changes" only to buy the hope of people who think they'll remove the obvious bullshit fantasy aspects when really it wont change at all..."

-Roshambo: "This proves it. I thought I would never buy it after seeing the trailer, but I didnt say anything on hopes that Bitchthesda was trying to see how the fans would respond. I'm pretty sure though that their just baiting us. They plan to sell it as is and are saying whatever will bring them their belovedly brainless, lowest-common denominator."

-Kharn: "I almost wish I was a PC programmer so I could help the modding crews fight such hogwash by making real inspired mods and not let people play these games."

-nOOb: "Maybe after it comes out someone can mod it and remove all the shitty stuff?"

-Stephen North: "Thats definite as that happens for any moddible game. Why look at Tribes where some diligent modder made a fantasy universe based on role-play and not on team combat. It will be a while though as we wait for Fallout 3 to come out and then until someone makes the necessary tools to take it apart."

It was right around then that I entered that hazy half-conscious period where your asleep and awake at the same time. The dream ended there. I was so amazed and enthralled I went over everything in my head multiple times and lay motionless in bed until I felt comfortable I wouldnt forget anything I saw. This became frightful when I realised, as far-fetched as the idea was, that maybe what I saw was a portent of the future.

In all honesty it probably wasnt. Just the thoughts in my mind coalescing into some odd mental habit that this time happened to make sense. However...it could be true.

Unfortunately in the dream I never saw the date on the forum. Maybe I was too busy browsing or my view of everything was too hazy, but I cant tell you when this theoretical viewing of the trailer for Fallout 3 took place.

Well...thats what I saw. Your thoughts?

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

*EDIT*

Maybe this should go in the news section?

You fool! How could you have forgotten to check the release date? And what about combat? Will it be turn-based or real-time? Will they retain the SPECIAL system? Is perspective isometric or first-person? Will the main character be wearing a blue jumpsuit? What will my reactions to the trailer be? Will my nickname be Graz'zt or Ratty? Will I even be alive by that time? Will I have graduated and moved to Scotland or France? Will I have married? Will I have become an NMA admin or at least the Senate Board Director of the Order? Will Windows Vista have been released by that time? I want answers, now!

Silencer! Get your ass over here, damn you! Make a newspost about this! Let the whole world know what Fallout 3 will look like! HURRY!

I've had dreams like that usually mixtures of the video games I've been playing..but never so specific, once thought I was playing GTA but it was set in the morrowind like universe, but seriously you better not end up being like psychic or something and that being the future because if it's true I will burn down all those affiliated with fallout 3

:rofl:

Next time I have a vision of the future I'll be sure to watch for the date even if I have no control over the events unfolding in front of me... :roll:

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

P.S.

What I really want to know is how realistic do you find the dream? Do you honestly think it could come true or was just fantasy?

Your poor thing.

PS: not very realistic...uhm...I hope. Bethesda's...uhm...not that stupid?
PPS: maybe I should pre-emptively switch studies and become a PC programmer

The power of The Vault Dweller compels you!

Go forth Kharn and create wonders of programming might!

...or just be like Ratty and use it to make a pRon archiving program, its all good.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

it probably was a 'nightmare' of the sorts but hey maybe you're being sent a message that making a game like that would get great money for you but since you have probably had fallout on you're mind lately you're dream was mixed. or maybe bethesda would try something like that, but obviously not FO3. or of course it's just a dream

By chance, Vault Dweller, did you partake of alcohol before bed that evening? Tequilla gets me every time. There is always a nightmarish quality to my dreams when I drink margaritas. Anyway, sometimes this provides fuel for ideas...
