The shit keeps rolling in

As someone mentioned already..it's really weird how these "defenders of POS" fail to come up with any real arguments or point out good things about the game etc. It sort of feels like they're defending it out of pure urge to cause grief between them and other fans (us?). A bit childish, if I may say so myself.

Total frikkin' denial

Actually, this fact is not as unlikely as we're all stating. Let's face it, the console crowd is not picked for its intelligence, or its self-control on the hormonal front. A game where you "can be really kewl, blasting a supermutant in the chest with a plasma pistol, taking its minigun and sell it for some quality time with a hooker" sounds like loads of fun to them, depending on whether or not you see the time with the hooker

The only thing Fallout:BoS has going against it on the console market are the crappy graphics (EDIT: and probably unoriginal gameplay, but we don't know that for sure yet). It's risky, to see if it can overcome that rather painful barrier. I dunno, we'll see. If it does, it's Fo:BoS 2, if it doesn't, it's buhbye Interplay

As for the dissenting voices of reason; DaC and NMA are fanminded communities. Fanminded generally means one strong mentality: "We are right, you are so fucking wrong I'm going to fuck you up with this lead pipe". I present the evidence of the hilarious console vs PC debates, which tend to lean towards "u r so gei" "no u r gei!"

But this single-mindedness is needed. For one thing it proves how popular and powerful the Fallout franchise exactly is. There are not many franchises that can procure such a singleminded strength, and especially not many that can do so amongst a relatively intelligent crowd.

For another thing, you need it to face of people like Caen and people from popular gaming sites. Fact of the matter is; those people lie. It's their job to lie. And to prove a point, it's not our fucking job to lie, so we take that oppertunity and bloody well shove it down their throats.

The end.

I think the above about console players is a bit of an exagerated generalization. Still, i agree with the rest, and the fact is, even if we don't know how FO:BoS plays, fact of the matter is from previews, official statements given by the team on IPLY forums, and simple common sense, it blows, simply because from all the official information we've been given on the title, it isn't bringing anything new into console games.

Same ... Different Day

Same ... Different Day
Just a thought.

POS comes out, starts selling like hot cakes, we're all shocked.

What will reactions be?

Console titles cum, console titles go'ooo.

Expect me to be lured to play March Madness Basketball or the current incarnation of Madden Football. If the nephew has time after playing "real" basketball to rent BG:DA2, expect me to have a look at that.
Not enough "safe' 3 wire electric in "this ol' house'' fo' all my electronics, PS2 still in the box it was moved in. Depending on the kindess of ... kids to see ""w-ut's upP"" in the world Sony 'maid'.

FO:BOS2 is said to already be in the grinder. No change there.

JE et al, the former BIS dev's, version of FO3 will still be "on the shelf".

The "smart money" at Interplay will be pumped to near ejaculation, fo' bein' so'ooo r-y-ghT-T. Expect more console titles.

Any profit will be skimmed in the incestuous shell game that occurs at the Vivendi family of game companies. Expect a perpetual dollar anemia at Interplay. Expect further SEC scrutiny if, when, Vivendi inflates the stock profile, again, by cooking the actual sales stats.

Expect the majority of lazy reviewers to make silly comparisons and desperate allusions to the FO's instead of judging FO:BOS as a ''Run 'n' Gun" console title, based on the BG:DA engine.

If it was a real accomplishment for Cuevas and his merry pirates to adapt the BG:DA engine to ranged combat, expect the average reviewer to NEVER GO THERE, but make affected and moronic gesticulations about the FO's, to POSE that ""I lub the FO's, but't ..."".

Same Sh't different day.

Hey pussies, why did you tone down the news post?

Wow, Poops, you just keep on getting more and more constructive...

Kinda like not answer questions, right?

The question's been answered already in the thread, if you'd bother to read it. We toned it down because we were asked to. We're civil people, unlike some.

Kiss my ass, faggot.

Er...but...it's not going to sell like hot-cakes.

Honestly. Think about it. Fallout doesn't have a big fan-base, in comparison to other games...especially not on consoles.

Also, the game looks like shit, and undoubtedly, reviews will be bad.

Not to mention the fact that I haven't seen any kind of real marketing campaign. No commercials, no magazine coverage, nothing. No one knows about it.

It'll be in the 20 dollar bargain bin at Blockbuster a month after it comes out.

We recieve it on January 9th, I belive, pending the release date is still January 13th (unless I'm completely wrong...can't remember if I read that or not). I'm going to rent it on the 9th and play it before it comes out. I'll let everyone know how it really is, of course.

More e-mail reply CC debunking of GameBanshee" happy-go-stupid previews, and Jonny-Boy.

Jon, Jon, Jon...I'm sure you would just love to scapegoat your lack of effort to do sufficient research into the matter before publishing articles, but I'm sorry if people object to the kind of smoke and mirrors hype approach that didn't really work for FOT, Daikatana, UFO: Aftermath, and certainly isn't working for F:POS and which is pretty loathed in the industry. It sure as hell didn't work for your "preview".

In addition, if you really feel THAT bad about people objecting to the garbage you spew, then you really need to cash in the cluepon. This is the internet. Opinions are everywhere, but uneducated opinions are even more plentiful and people are not hesitant in pointing out where your o-ring has a death grip upon your neck. There's no way someone could have posted what was posted and then expect people to be even remotely dumb enough to swallow it completely.

I'm wondering what kind of "gaming journalist" condones the poor construction of games in lieu of "OH! IT HAS TEH TEH FLALOUT NAME!!!1!"

The ignorance of the Fallout universe and the piss-poor journalism skills by the previewer are both plainly seen when even skimming the article. Let me point out some points of idiocy:

"The development team seems to understand the intensity of devotion to the Fallout fanbase and is adamant that serious care was taken to ensure that FBOS remains true to the spirit of the original Fallout RPGs and that contradictory information has been avoided at all costs."

Yes, they made sure so much that they closed down the official forums because of the backlash of the really poor trailer and the dev diary/FAQ, banned people who politely made critiques of the game because they were right on the money, and then contradicted themselves a number of times on forums, interviews, and the official site. Bonus points if you can point out where exactly the previewer is talking out of their ass. I'll give you a hint, Jon. It's in the official FAQ and the producer basically calls your previewer a liar post-authoring of the FAQ. In fact, by going along the FAQ alone, it really makes the "preview" laughable. This is even more laughable if you've read the first interview, which basically proves that the previewer is...shall we say...a complete idiot who posts bullshit. Well, I didn't have to say that for my benefit, so take note.

It is wonderful that your "journalists" post that bullshit whilst having done zero research. No, seriously. We need someone to resemble bottom of the barrel and compete with GameSpy/IGN's brand of clueless incompetence. Speaking of which, here comes another debunking of more clueless garbage:

"That said, FBOS does take place at a later time than Fallout, so the developers wanted to give it a look that would reflect the evolution of the culture. This means there will still be a 50s influence to the aesthetic of the universe, but less so than in earlier games."

Now the previewer is definitely a world-class idiot. It is painfully obvious that the fellow is either a fool or didn't do enough research before posting some PR spin. You see, Fallout 2 still had the 50's style influence, as is the "trademark" of the series. It is what would happen if a 50's-ish sci-fi author would depict a post-apocalyptic world. The "less so" is nothing more than a cover-up on the part of the devs because they were initially caught with their pants down in that there was none of the Fallout universe to be seen, much less the 50's style and thongs. Oh, might I also add that F:POS is set BETWEEN Fallout 1 and Fallout 2? Well, that is unless their poor design just allows them to change the time when it occurs, but from what I've seen, it's always been between the two. The official site even points this out.

"and early reports indicate that almost every conversation includes the option to cuss the conversant out."

Doesn't this point out that they have to use such weak design features, as they are cashing on the swearing/nudity appeal to make it seem more "appealing", but that hasn't helped other titles who tried to do the same.

"It’s too early to tell whether Fallout fans will accept the changes Interplay has made to the franchise"

Now this is just pure unadulterated idiocy. I suppose the clueless previewer didn't notice the official forums being closed down after the trailer fiasco, nor about how a SHITLOAD of fans are upset all over, even moreso when they found out that Fallout 3 was canned in favor of making a cheap knock-off. Your previewer must either miss the obvious or they are reading from a press kit. It also doesn't speak much of the story if it can be cut into two parts and make two games, in a couple of months worth of effort. Anyone with experience in the game industry can easily see that shows very shallow design if it is in a cookie cutter like that.

"or whether its similarities to Dark Alliance will draw fans of that franchise into the Fallout universe. All early signs point, however, to a product that is likely to impress fans of third person shooters in general."

The reason why BG:DA sold well is that it had a name to go on. Fallout isn't that well known in the console market and here they go in trying to cash in on the name, at one of the dead zones in game releases, JAN 13th. That has failure written all over it.

"Fans of the original Fallout RPGs may need to keep an open mind and come to grips with the high improbability of Fallout 3 to enjoy it, but most console gamers should find themselves drawn into its quirky universe."

Or an open mind to hopefully deal with clueless previewers and that Interplay was more interested in cashing off what (to their addled minds) think would be a smash hit. After all, Fallout is still selling and console = $. Well, it does to more competent designers are the ones making the money while Interplay is busy creaming their jeans over a mere 200k for a console in sales. 200k isn't that much, even for the PC market, yet that is starting to look "optomistic" for Titus to have the title developed and possibly take more money out of Interplay's coffers, as they have been milking the company dry of its former self.

Also, the points about the universe are really laughable if you take a look at the FAQ and dev diary (much less the interviews and other information given), in that they at first lied and then later used the "alternate timeline" excuse. Wait...alternate timeline? That doesn't really sound that much like the "contradictory information doesn't exist", as was claimed by the previewer, especially when they pulled that line purely from their own ass. Of course, I may be wrong, they may have pulled it from Interplay's PR rep's ass, so there is that possibility as they have been spin-doctoring this at every opportunity. Hell, just read some of the interviews with Chuck Cuevas and another of the F:POS developers to understand why we're not too amused at how ignorant the previewer is.

So if you don't like the bad reception of the bullshit you publish, Jonny-Boy, then you should make sure that you don't publish bullshit, understand? Or just stop paraphrasing Interplay PR kits. The difference between us is that you are a media whore, Jon.

You are done whining, that is all.

-Rosh

P.S. Apology for the vitriol to those in CC, but I can't stand it when people lie and then try to whine in defense about it. Show some integrity of your own before you bitch about the integrity of others, Jon.

i really dont think FO:BOS will sell very well....but even is there is a slim chance that it does.....Interplay will never sell the rights and a FO3 will never be made.....

Damn......

That is why we must not buy the game (i know im not)

I don't like how the reviews need to fill space with all this stuff about us and how we are slinging mud at the game. Aren't previews supposed to be about the game? In any case, why are these reviews begging for US to try it? We know what Fallout is... console gamers won't. Why aren't they just trying to keep the audience console gamers? If IPLY wants consolers to try some new crappy game, then write about how "Good" the game is. We don't care, it isn't like we are going to run out and buy it.

The only thing Fallout:BoS has going against it on the console market are the crappy graphics
Don't forget the ESRB Mature rating, which is a sales killer, especially when considering this game's audience.

But this single-mindedness is needed. For one thing it proves how popular and powerful the Fallout franchise exactly is. There are not many franchises that can procure such a singleminded strength, and especially not many that can do so amongst a relatively intelligent crowd.

Indeed. Of a general demographic that plays games like BIS games, it is highly unusual to see them all yelling, flaming, illogically bashing and generally tearing shit all over the place. That usually happens in a mass appeal game.

But really, the fact that BOS carries the FO franchise has blinded both sides. We are of course angry that BOS has killed BIS and FO3, and that it has killed the universe's consistency too. And non-FO fans, Interplay, and just about every game reviewer is eager to excuse every deficiency of the game just because all the FO fans hate it. Objectivity is rare. It is also nonexistent in gaming news sites.

There are many facts which are shaping BOS up to be a failure, or at least a disappointment, regardless of the FO franchise. Even if BOS was not a FO game...
- Mediocre graphics.
- Mediocre "RPG Element" with dumbed down mix of BG:DA and FO.
- Unoriginal and boring gameplay involving.. guess what. shooting. shooting. shooting. Since it's real-time, all you do is run around shooting, using shoulder buttons to lock on.

So far, such features means there are only facts that predict BOS' failure as a standalone game. *Even* for a console game - hell, even for a game like FFXII, where the franchise never really changes, you are given features that will make the game better. BOS gives nothing. Either this is Interplay's attempt to beat PS:T to the Worst Marketing Ever award, or they just don't have anything to show off. All they show off is the "coolness" of what the game is about. No matter how "cool" buttonmashing at mutants and shagging prostitutes might be, that can't sell a game.

Prepared for a disappointment? We are, Interplay isn't. BG:DA2 is building on a game which might have took the name BG and dumbed it down, but at least had attributes to redeem itself and was a seller. BOS will not be, BG:DA2 may be. Either way, Interplay will not be able to climb out of its financial debacle with these two games.

Of course, there is a small chance that BOS might surprise us - we cannot give a 100% judgment before the game is out. But if Interplay has managed to mask BOS' excellence so far into development and show us its only mediocre and crap parts, they have talent.

A useless talent.

bos!!

I definitely will refuse to buy it but might rent it just for a laugh to see how badly they killed our beloved wasteland :-(
