I have to mention that I love the old Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. They perfectly captured the feel of the mature comic series, but marketed to the kid cartoon fans as well. I wish they would make another movie like that. The TMNT movie was pretty good, but I miss the good old days.
On Horror Movies
I miss movies that had good monster effects like The Thing, American Werewolf in London, and Silver Bullet. The modern CG effects are fucking up the industry. It has been done right in Jurassic Park, LOTR, and lots of other movies, but when they skimp on the CG it just looks like shit. I know it is more cost effective, but the fact is it stinks. The quality in the Horror genre has dropped significantly over the years. At least the gore effects are decent for the Saw series, and other slasher flicks, but that shit gets old quick. I could care less about a Saw 8 or whatever number they are on now.
Basically my must see list is looking something like this for 2012(Take into account that I am a Marvel fan):
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance- Original was a big letdown. This one looks a lot darker, but Nick Cage is still a bit lame. I will see it anyway because I am a GR fan. I guess I will find out how good it is on the 17th of this month.
Avengers- I can't emphasize enough how much I love this idea. I remember wanting this to come out when I was 12 years old, thinking to myself how awesome it would be, but afraid that they would gay it up. They have failed on many occasions, but this one looks like a win. They have a lot of Star power on this one, and many follow ups down the road. It's better than another Transformers movie anyway. Looking forward to this in May.
Amazing Spiderman- It actually looks good. I wasn't too sure on the Director for this flick, but he pulled through... I think. It is nice for them to do Gwen Stacy right too. They screwed her up in Spiderman 3. This one will be a great summer movie(July).
Dark Knight Rises- I have to say I am unimpressed so far. I will probably see it opening weekend anyway.
Of course who could forget The Hobbit? That goes without saying.
