The Vault previews Fallout: New Vegas, #2

Well, NV being a game makes the gameplay a major aspect of it, and while I think it's probably unfair to claim that the NV experience will be identical to FO3's, I also think that it'll be very, very similar.

Considering all the stuff they seem to be adding, better RPG elements and better dialogues and plot (hopefully) it seems a bit reductive to me.

Adding Marcus and reusing bits and pieces of Van Buren automatically mean that Obsidian did it as a cheap way to appeal to old fans and to save time?
Considering things like the "Wild Wasteland" perk, yes, I must say that I can't see it otherwise than that way.

Could you elaborate?

Well, I, for one, think that there are reasons to be negative. Plenty of them, I'd add.

I'm not that negative but I agree.

How is spending time to creating a perk the "easy" way out?

To not bring up controversity among fans?

What would be the "hard" way?

Good review, Ausir

I was wondering about the 'characteristic of cumbersomeness' as well - I always hated that delay between pressing the VATS key and actually beginning combat - sometimes (always) it would take ages before VATS loads up and you see the body parts and the percentages.

From what I've read and seen in some of the videos, it seems to be gone. Ausir would know better, though.

Well, that's how I see things. That doesn't mean I can't understand that some of you don't share that perspective, though.

Let me explain: when I see things like Marcus and the Followers of Apocalypse (people that wouldn't necessarily have to be there), and a trait that deals directly with the long-lasting fan dilemma about the over-the-top pop-culture references, I really don't see other thing that an attemp to cater to the old fans. And I'd even add that it's a superficial one, in my opinion, as there are other things fans have more concerns about.

As for them using those characters and cameos from previous games/proyects of game to save the time of creating new ones, well, that's not the part of the sentence I was referring to. Anyway, we can't read the Obsidian crew's minds, so it can't be assured that it's not the case.

The hard way?...

Since you ask it, I'd say that the hard way would have been that, when Beth approached Obsidian and asked: "Do you want to help me milk Fall... eeer, do you want to do something with Fallout", they had answered: "Yes, we want, but we want the permission and time to make it our way: a true Fallout top-down turn-based game."

I'm not claiming this was a viable choice; but I surely think that it would have been, not only the "hard", but also the "good" way.

... Sorry, I understand your viewpoint but at the same time it will be impossible to ever get it right in your eyes what they do or "would have" done anyway.

Thanks for clearing that up, though.

That is actually a bug introduced with one of the Fallout 3 patches, at least on the PC version. I forget exactly which patch it was, but Bethesda never bothered to acknowledge it and made no efforts to fix it despise putting out multiple patches after the introduction of the bug, despite an extremely large community effort on their forum to find work-arounds, potential fixes, etc.
Bah, let's hope it's gone in F:NV. Also, looks like you'll be able to skip the horribly repetitive VATS 'zoom-on-the-exploded-eyeball' action cam, which could make shooting in VATS kind of worth it (i.e. not terribly frustrating like in F3).

I think the VATS delay was just a bug....and I'm sure we'll see some more from NV.

From what I've read and seen in some of the videos, it seems to be gone. Ausir would know better, though.
