So, how do you see our immediate future coming into being? Do you think we're more likely to see a:


Nuclear Apocalypse - With lunatic right-wing religious leaders that believe destroying the planet is the only way to bring about the Second Coming, this one seems pretty likely. That, and the declining natural resources around the world sounds a lot like the lead-in to Mad Max...

or a...

Cyberpunk-esque Fascist Police State - The more freedoms we drop into the abyss of "national security", the more I expect to wake up in a small white room with a camera in my face and a barcode on my neck, probably with a strange scar somewhere on the back of my skull as well...


Or maybe you feel that it will be some kind of in-between, or one first followed by the other? Or even something entirely different?

Now ---> less freedom, less emotions, suits everywhere, everyone who isn't a manager of some sort is unemployed, everything gets more expensive, more poverty, same amounts of pollution, system governed by large companies, fake politicians and police/army ---> shit hits the fan when Earth starts to hiccup, crime goes up due to poverty rates, zero tolerance, wars for resources, poor masses against the system, natural disasters ---> system crumbles because of sea level rising + anarchy + mass emigration, period of near complete anarchy, each man for himself, world population is decimated, Earth is completely out of control ---> ruins, scavengers, famine, land now only 1/7-1/8 of total surface of planet, back to sticks and stones, stories about forefathers who wore business suits and wrecked the place for pieces of paper with presidents' faces printed on them, disbelief ---> once domesticated, now wild cats become mankind's biggest enemy and take over the planet ---> sun explodes ---> the end.
 
ET's from Woodstock planet will Alien Blast teh evil and lead us in into an age of love and hapiness (lots of green fields, with butterflies and rainbows). They will give us a vaccine that increases longevity, but secretly makes us sterile: green fileds will become massive farms from where they harvest crops for their federation while humanity slowly and silently vanishes... without resistance.

or

US economy will colapse and the member-states will divide into small, bickering nations, while the rest of the world will follow Russia into the revival of Soviet dream. Texas will go to war against Cheyenne :mrgreen:
 
Global economic chaos, dozens of skirmishes, no progress whatsoever on alternative energy sources, and rapid expansion/opening of areas to drilling.
 
After scrying the future(checking the feeling in my back) and checking all sources(looking out the window) I am pretty sure that tomorrow will be wet and cold.

How could I be late for a specific time? Certainly, I can be late arriving at a destination by a specific time, but I'm going to reach that time, regardless of where I am or whether or not I want to :)

Maybe we'll die with the LHC, would be absolutely hilarious(to me) if we did. Unlikely though... so I vote Cyberpunk =)
 
lots of different doomsday scenarios available, just gotta pick one. our great nations will fall one way or another, as have all previous great nations (or whatever you want to call them).

me, I'm guessing on the economic collapse/scarce resources/too many bubbles of intolerance growing and finally popping scenario. we CAN stop the evil rich people before it's too late, but it won't happen since everyone is perfectly fine in front of their TV watching american idol while eating a big mac.
