Hell, why did they make it a popular vote? When you've been fighting a decade long conflict that's ruined thousands of lives, you don't just bank on the people to be smart and try to stop it. Was it a compulsory vote? If not... that explains a lot.

Apparently, like most things, it was a political move on the part of our president to get even more positive image, then our previous president used it to fuck him and the peace threaty over by doing counter campaigning while the goverment just were convinced the YES vote would win with little campaigning.

It's dumb.

Why wouldn't they be? US military has fused with the mercenary militaries such as Blackwater long time ago. More war, more money for them. And they still think they'll at least sort of win whatever war Trump will start.
