Thoughts on the Bioshock series?

From one of the many universes. If I recall correctly cause it has been a long time, when Booker drowned in the "current universe" all the Elizabeths disappeared which means all of the Comstocks and Bookers must've disappeared. Not like the game made any sense to begin with.

It says everything wrong about the game Ken Levine thought the racism and classicism and jingoism elements were less important than the quantum mechanics parts.

The former was just set dressing despite being actually interesting and relevant to people's lives.

I think Subject Delta had a lot of character for a mutant with a fishbowl on his head.

The fact his name with the inhabitants was called "Johnny Topside" and he had more character and emotional depth than Booker is entertaining as fuck. Definitely felt more emotional with the intro cutscene and the happy/neutral ending for 2 over Infinite''s shitty story.

I also like that he can manhandle a .50BMG gatling gun one handed.

That's the best part, too. You come into this game thinking "ohh it's about political stuff and racism and how shit goes to the extreme, kewl" but nope,it's about "LOLSCIENCEMAGIC" and everything else is forgotten quickly. Hell, the racist shit didn't even have any fucking bite to it, either, another reason why it was so forgettable. Makes me wonder why Infinite is considered a 'good game', but Bioshock 2 is suddenly considered a 'cashgrab'.

Comstock claims to be the hero of Wounded Knee (the infamous RL massacre) while Booker's Old War Buddy is pissed at him because he doesn't remember Comstock there. That's because he remembers Booker there (and Booker hasn't been artificially aged by the Tears ala Comstock). Booker's whole self-hatred is based on the fact he's a man who participated in the massacre.

Elizabeth goes from a shy, introverted, idealistic Disney Princess to a traumatized broken omnipotent demigoddess who will kill her father-figure to destroy Columbia and prevent Comstock's insane Millennialist plan from happening.

Booker goes from a selfish gambler here to kidnap Elizabeth to someone who comes to terms with the crimes he committed and being willing to die to achieve penance for them.

You are reaching SERIOUSLY to say that's not a character arc. I mean, how does one even pretend Elizabeth doesn't get all shellshocked and crazy?
- I meant where is that betrayal of his race that sounds so interesting.
- Okay, so Elizabeth knows how to kindaa use her powers. Also, Booker does. She might be Jean Grey from the X-Men, but that didn't do anything. And she's happy and later she's sad.
- I don't know, he didn't seem that happy to be drowned. Weren't we saying how much of a rabid dog he was? Then why on earth is he now a martyr?
- Oh man, she stabbed some radical crazy bitch to save a kid's life! What kind of demon would she be?

My opinion on the plot can be summarized by Bruce Willis here.
Exactly, some time travel babble and then they start punching each other.

Btw how long has it been since you played Half Life 2? G-Man wants his script back.

I also am stupidly in love with Sarah Bolger and can't help but think Elizabeth is based on her character.

* Daughter of villain
* Prepared to be the messiah of an evil cult
* Kept isolated and raised by weirdo cult
* Stupid superpowers
* Fights beside you
* Adorable Disney Princess (Except Eleanor can go Big Sister)

Does anyone find the designs of the Bioshock infinite weapons a bit...Lacking?

For me, they went with the Fallout 4 "make everything look as far from an actual gun as possible" tactic of gun design.

In Bioshock 1-2, every weapon looked like it could in theory work today, even the makeshift rocket launchers and giant rivet guns.

The whole constants and variables shit is such a lazy cop out. Talk about willingly castrating the genre you decided to set your story in.

Fans of sci-fi will also note the whole thing about Comstock and Booker is bullshit because why wouldn't there be a good Comstock in one of those realities?

Aren't you murdering infinite numbers of good guys as well as bad guys?

Also what about Universes where Booker gets baptized a week later due to rain or one where he converts to Islam instead? The whole thing is just so stupid and unimaginative.

Now...Now I want to imagine common video games, but islamised.

Call me crazy but I would have been MAYBE a bit more interested if the game had been about racism and American exceptionalism instead.

Yeah, but that aspect was even more underdeveloped than the already dumbed down application of Quantum Physics and the multiverse they chose to focus on. I watched a video of the beta version of Infinite and it just seems like they got some heavy budget cuts because none of the stuff they showed there ended up in the game in any way other than the superficial.

So I really enjoyed the first Bioshock game, but I didn't think it was the level of genius everyone said it was.
Bare in mind, this was years ago so my memory of it may be a little flushed, but I felt it was a decent enough shooter.
I remember playing a bit of the Sequel and enjoying aspects to it.

For the most part, I love the design and the music to both games, I feel there is a very creepy atmosphere which doesn't really go anywhere.

The third game I've yet to try, but it came at a time when I was starting to find what kind of games I was into and just play through them.
I didn't really have enough interest in FPS as I had at that point, already played enough of them.
