does Bethesda has the rights to make Fallout MMO too?

No, Chris Taylor and Jason Anderson are working on that over on Interplay, tho' it's not been announced yet.

Bethesda do have some sort of creative supervision on that project though, don't they? In that case it isn't any suprise that Chris would be reluctant to come out say anything negative on Fallout 3...

Whuh?

I preordered the game myself.

Chris taylor, I am a huge fan of your work.

That much is obvious though...

Here's hoping that whatever MMO your working on will change the problematic foundation of mmorpgs.(A genre I am not particularly fond of) I will definately think of more good tidings if one of the original game developers is involved. Not that the mmorpg that your working on is in any way related to fallout.

well, i suspect when the dust settles and people start being honest:

1) it will be another "next gen" game that people wont play after 2-3 years

2) the hype being so huge, it will sell huge. for 4-8 weeks and then nothing

3) like oblivion, it will get GotY for lots of sites/mags, and then be ridiculed for idiotic AI

4) there will be lists with hundreds of bugs/inconsistencies

5) i wont buy it untill there is at least 1 patch

ctaylor: you know you didnt blur the order# very well, i can make out most of the #s

Could it be possible that the original designers are sincerely interested in the game and not out to pick apart everything they disagree with so fanboys get their jollies off???

My God, this is why I stopped coming here. Even when the original designers themselves have said "Yeah I like this game" you find the smallest reasons to ride their ass.
Uh huh. You're the only one who seems to be worked up here, far as I can tell.

Also, if you read those statements made by Chris and Cain and are extrapolating that they like it, you're not comprehending them very well I'd say. Both developers made very neutral, diplomatic statements that amount to "Yeah I'm going to play it" with Taylor adding that he's envious of the monetary resources Beth has to pour into the marketing. That's it. Chris even posted himself saying that he'll say quite honestly and openly if he likes it, otherwise we won't hear anything from him about it. If he's already decided he likes it, that wouldn't make much sense.
HAS TIM CAIN BECOME THE NEXT LUCAS?? WHAT SHOULD I THINK OF MY IDOL KNOWING THEY HAVE A DIFFERENT OPINION THAN ME?? THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END I SAY!!!
One person made the reference to Lucas, and they weren't referring to Tim Cain or the original developers, they were talking about Bethesda "Lucasing" the franchise. Further, no one used caps or really gave any impression of being highly upset, making your comment all the more ridiculous.

which Ironicaly Bethesda cant do. Tim Cain would have to do that since hes the creator of Fallout.

It would be a bit more accurate to say they Superman 3ed the Franchise. Complete with the attempt at excessive humor, bad acting, and godAwfull plot.

They pretty much FO: POS'd it. Built it for console action while milking a franchise name. Funny thing is while I'll totally give Beth major points in packaging - to the point of appealing to FO fans even while turning them off the game, after reading of the FO3 plot I think the crap that was FO: POS was written better. I'm not saying it was good, wasn't, but at least from blatantly ripping off plotlines from good sourcematerial they had something more appealing than Beth's final version - which seems to be Beth ripping off it's own TES plots and just crossing genre's with similar voice direction.

I Agree with Chris, I found the limited looks Beth gave of FO3 intrigueing myself. The background art for the game is great... it just what they filled it with that is lacking, but how much of that could be seen and when? Pretty obvious now, but Beth released the right hype for a long while. Beginning as a child in the Vault at chargen and growing up in the vault to determine your character? BRILLIANT! Still is brilliant, it's just sad Beth can't stick to the high point they usually set with Chargen. Add to the the Collector's Edition coming in a metal lunchbox and it's probably the most promising Collector's Edition I've ever seen. It's just too bad Beth can never seem to follow through on it's promise.

There's always a lot of potential, and they fail to live up to it. Their inital hype turns into lies they never back off on, they rarely polish or finish the game by release, leaving you continually with a product that falls flat by the end and which you need interested modders to pump air into to even keep afloat.

well if i remember correctly, Chris Taylor had said that if he doesnt like the game, he wont say anything at all in public.
so dont expect him to post here and start bashing, thats not going to happen.

lead programmer/producer/original mastermind Tim Cain
"...but I have thought about the online version. I've also talked to the guys at Interplay about Fallout Online.

"The biggest problem I have with expanding the game is that the original games were designed to make you feel like you were one of the last people left on Earth. And with Fallout 3 and the online version, I'm curious about how they'll handle making the game not feel too crowded--making it feel like there's not much life left out there after the war."</blockquote>

I'm more interested about this issue. Every mmorpg I've ever seen (someone else play) is a festering clusterf-ck of flamboyantly dressed freakshows prancing around and dying.

Oh yeah, and to stay on topic, on Cain and Taylor's response to FO3: Well played.
