Tips on making good player faces?

Caucasian female, really so bad?
I used Nova hair from the Nexus here because I don't like any of the hairtypes that are in the game.

I had to play around in the in-game character editor to get this face right. showracemenu console command is helpful.

I disagree, sir.
However, as they say, opinions are like pancakes - everyone has one and all of them stink. Or was it something else than pancakes? Nah, it were pancakes most definitely...

Simple, mods. If New Vegas was not such a rushed game, it would have been possible to make decent faces for you character without using them.

Nah dude, it's still Gamebryo, those mods usually requrie entire reworks of textures, meshes and everything to work, along with NVSE and clean saves, those mods are not simple at all.

So in other words get Fallout Character Overhaul, and couple it with Mikoto's Hair Pack or Ling Coiffure, I did this Hipster chick by pressing the random button a few times with FCO

Quite honestly, I do not care how good my character looks. Not like I see the face in anything other than the character creation section.

You never fiddle in third person when looking at new armor or when walking large stretches of land?

Welp, to each their own, maybe is just my graphic designer side that doesn't let me have a face that looks badly modelled without any justification, even when I make ugly characters I go for the Interestingly ugly rather than the randomly ugly.

Ah, the joys of facegen. Certainly doesn't help that the racemenu has a preview screen that makes the face look different than it really is. Usually when I spot something wrong with my character's face, I spend like 20 minutes opening the racemenu and moving one slider by 1-2 mm, then checking if it worked multiple times (most of the time the flaw I was correcting didn't even exist at all). And that's with FCO. Before that I could spend much longer.

Modded or no, I've found I have the best luck starting from a Black or Hispanic preset. I'm not sure about the exact differences between racial options, but even with the sliders at the same settings it does seem they're there. Asian and Caucasian aren't worthless without mods, but they're pretty close.
