The minimum computer system specifications for Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion have been posted at the official site:
512MB System RAM
2 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
128MB Direct3D compatible video card
and DirectX 9.0 compatible driver;
8x DVD-ROM drive (...)
The recommended specs are:
3 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
1 GB System RAM
ATI X800 series, Nvidia GeForce 6800 series, or higher video card
You may want to at least meet those for the hopefully upcoming Fallout 3, since this is the engine that will run it.

Meh, I already beat those system requirements, and I'm gonna build a new system as soon as the AMD Socket M2 units roll out. By the time Fallout 3 hits, though, I expect them to bump up the Sys. Reqs. a bit, just because they always do. Besides, if you really want good gaming performance, you have to go beyond the "recommended" sys. reqs. and just plain throw the minimum specs in the garbage. Nobody goes by the minimum specs.

Good, I already upgraded my system when Quake4 came out... woohoo!

Can't await to get my hands on Oblivion.

:seriouslyno:

Of course I could play Oblivion... if I wanted to.

Actually, I'll probably buy it eventually. It's not like I am against RPG-lite on principle, and it's so shiny!

At the moment in the minimum zone (well I have 1gig ram, but...), and my update of the computer will lead into the apple zone. If those bastards don't make a Mac version i'm fucked. No way i'm buying a pc anymore.

Oblivion is more than a game. "Oblivion" is the state of mind of BethSoft designers in regard to everything that was good about the Elder Scrolls. Everything about Oblivion indicates it will be the worst game in the series, inferior to Morrowind and *greatly* inferior to Daggerfall.

Thankfully, Gothic series picked up where TES left off. Personally, I'm much more enthusiastic about Gothic III, because it will be equally stunning in a visual sense (if not moreso), but also a lot better RPG and a deeper game overall.

Why aren't you buying a grown-ups computer?

considering neither games are out yet, you don't know that, you talk like you have played through both, maybe you can come back after you have actually played the games....

Considering you think empirical method is the only way to be sure something is in fact, shit, maybe you can eat a game's cd and a plate of shit, and come back after you have actually tasted both...

Dude...I barely reach half the requirements and my PC is only 3 months old...though I did get it for a measly $500.

Well I've been using pc since Amiga, but in the summer I changed to a Mac. No way I'm changing back. I didn't really think there would be SUCH a change, but I was wrong. Everything I thought was a "normal" computer thing (hang-ups, etc.) was pointed wrong.

Simply putt. Mac's just work. Of course I work on the graphical design are so the mac's have a slight edge there.

I still use the pc for 3D-modelling due to the dualscreen, but I generally always get pissed off while using it. It's always asking my permission do something Microsofty and annoys me with virusscans and such. I WANT TO USE THE MACHINE!

That's what you get for buying a POS box from a big-box retailer.
Now get yourself $3000 and go build a real gaming machine.
I'll wait here. :D

But seriously, your PC acting up like that is not the fault of the PC but the user. I've set up and maintained quite a few PC not just for me but for some of my friends who also have a Mac too and they all say that Mac being more stable is a myth.

Plus, you can, you know, actually play games on a PC*.

But, yeah, for graphical design, Macs FTW...

*Yes, Sander/Ashmo/Ratty or whoever, I know that a Mac can be considered a PC too, so STFU.

I have a lot of friends that went with a pc some time ago but have switched to mac and refuses to change back again. I was thinking of going down that road but will stay with my pc just a little longer. At least until the duo cores are more refined.

The nice point of Macs is its integration with the hardware. Everything is done for you, and with a sleek and really user-friendly interface. Windows has the edge because there are more programs (mainly games) available for it, but if you don't care about that, there's no reason really to go with Windows over Mac OS .

Of course it's the fault of the user, but if the users has to care of OF EVERYTHING security related it's wrong. Of course I can use the pc and keep it clean and such, but then you have to install antivirus, firewall, addaware etc. just to keep the machine clean, and if you don't use the free ones (and don't support piracy) you have to pay quite a lot for "freedom". Hell those things SHOULD come with the package.

There is so much shit on windoes nowdays that it's starting to look like the internet. It's a good tool, but it's having way too many pop-ups etc. messing around. Plus I hate it when it asks persmission FOR EVERYTHING! "Do you want to delete?" "Yes." "Do you really want to delete this file?" "Yes!" " Do you really really...?" "YEESS!!"

I don't know. It justs annoys the hell out of me nowdays, but remember this rantling is only about windows. Not really sure how linux does it (tried it a while back), but It doesn't have the software I need.

Plus I don't really play that many games and all the good ones are on mac too

Ah, yes. Because everbody HAS those spare 3000 USD and nothing more neccessary to spend it on than computer upgrades that are only neccessary because new games will be unplayable if you don't have the hardware to see all the flashiness.

Most of my WORK is done with computers and I never hit any limits THAT way.
Yet I'm expected to pay a fortune for additional rendering power, most of which is only neccessary because of sloppy programming or bad management and only used to render that realistic grass that is supposed to steal your attention so you don't notice how bad the gameplay sucks.

Yee-haw.

I go way past the system requirements, and thats on the second pc (Linux Box) I use for college courses and loging into my server (Part of my grade is maintaining a server and checking it remotely daily). The gaming PC is even far better than that.

I will say this about MAC's...

While yes I dont like 'em its not b/c of the people or the computer or anything else. Its becaulse of the hardware they run.

Their OS is really well coded, but they overcharge people out the wazoo for their compters. A excelent MAC, 3k say would be about 800 for a pc of that quality, if the parts werent on sale and the internet didnt exist.

Recently though they have switched their ways of building their products as of recently and with their focus seeming to be twords more real performance and last year introduced the first ever... 2 button MAC mouse (wow :D ) so mabey they are FINALY catching up with the rest of us performance wise, for their users sake I do hope so.

That aside, I really dont care if it comes out for MAC's only as long as Fallout 3 comes out in OUR lifetimes :|

If you use a Macintosh, the terrorists win.

But seriously -- as long as you have better reasons for using a Mac than being "alternative" (in the way indie bands think they're "alternative" to real music), I don't see any problem.

Supporting Macintoshs because Microsoft is monopolistic, OTOH, is like being a Satanist because Lucifer is evil.
