was inspired by Apocalypse Meow, i guess.

the premise is actually pretty funny. Vietnam war with animals. americans are bunnies, vietnamese are cats, chinese are pandas, russians are bears, french are pigs, japs are monkeys, brits are rats, aussies are koalas and 'roos...

overall, it was also rather accurate in the way they were packing gear and stuff.

the animated version made me smile, but i doubt i'll bother (didn't bother with Apoc Meow either).
what i did notice in the anim is that their headsets are nowhere near their ears. ;)
not that it matters.
 
I think I have seen the manga that this premise is based on somewhere online. Besides that it reminded me of Maus, just a different way ofcourse. Entertaining.
 
What is up with Japanese dubbing? You never know if someone is saying "I'm going to open the fridge and make me a sandwich! Maybe with peanut butter on it!" or if they're saying "I raped your whole family for two hours the other day! And I laughed while I did it!" because everything is delivered in roughly the same tone and rhythm, and Japanese animation being what it is, you can't tell from the context either.

It's not dubbing, it's original voice acting.

Also, someone here needs to stop blaming stuff on his ignorance, and go learn languages, if it concerns you that much.


As for the concept, I don't think it's great, although it is thousands of years old (think Aesop). I think, if they did what they wanted with this, in realistic CG but w/o the furries, it would be too much controversy which would more or less kill the studio.

While I can see how you could say that after watching this trailer, that's really not true in general. In fact, I find Japanese voice inflections impart emotions very clearly, though I've watched a fair amount of anime...

Indeed. I think Ausdoerrt is confused because dub is used as shorthand to refer to anime being voice acted in English (or another language if noted).

I'd have to read the manga to know if it has a shot at being good but the setting hardly interests me, just as the setting of Apoc Meow hardly interests me. As cool as it is that it has furries, I know nothing about the plot and the trailer just makes it look like a middle east combat movie so unless it's something truely interesting, I'll probably pass on this one.

I lived in Japan, and speak Japanese, so I can't really relate to the idea that Japanese doesn't show emotion very well.

Learning a new language isn't hard, and is quite rewarding. Why not give Japanese a shot? You'll be surprised how much fun learning a different language can be.
 
People are perhaps reading more into my post than I intended. I'm not saying anything about all Japanese locution ever, or that the Japanese language is somehow deficient. Just the fact that you can zap into some anime where a burly guy is holding forth for a minute or more (moving nothing but his mouth) on esoteric strategies in a card game, and if you didn't look at the subtitles you could very easily imagine that he's calling down a five-generation curse on you and your house for having invaded and slaughtered the imperial throne world of Galaxinus IV. I mean, no one is really denying that happens, right? I think it's funny.

I agree with Per 100% and I understood that it wasn't meant in a particularly serious way.

I've often had trouble seeing much of a difference between saying something strong and hard as opposed to something soft and nice. Of course I don't speak the language and hardly watch anime.

Probably the primary reason... You could apply the same kind of idea to every language, imo, if it's completely unfamiliar.

I agree, it was very good until they started speaking. I have always thought japanese sounds like a harsh language, much like russian is a grim language, and german is a commanding language.

So when furries start talking like that its like WOOAH! lol... mind you, I actually love all three languages, learning both russian and german... but Japanese sounds like a brutal harsh version of chinese... and I don't mean that in a bad way either lol
