Fallout 2 mod Unofficial MIB88 MegaMod Gameplay Help

@IonBeam: try slowing down or speeding up your wordmap travel time in the ddraw.ini file in the fallout2 directory. if your going to fast or going to slow, you wont get certain encounters, this is more a fact of your pc's speed and os.

also it seems to be a it of a bug where you cant get important encounters when your in the car.
I dunno. just a guess

@Morticia
The designated NPC is a party member. I have been traveling the wastes for ~3 months game time and have not gained this encounter. Is this long enough? Could it be a function of car speed as mentioned by Destroyaz_? Are there certain areas where this encounter is more likely? I am baffled. Thanks for your help.

@ionbeam
try leaving on foot fom the place where you were givin the chance to find the encounter. such as vault 14

Sorry, wrong thread.

@ Morticia: No, it gives 1 PE. I have 5 and need +1 for the sharpening spear quest. It's about the devil weed something.

Okay, guys, I finally got the correct keycard for Vault 14 (whew!!). Here is what happened:
Attempt #1- I recruited the designated NPC, asked him the relevant question, went to Vault 14, used the designated item and got the location of Vault 14 on my Pipboy, and then wandered the wasteland (with the designated NPC in my party) by car for over 3 months game time with no joy.
Attempt #2- Performed same actions as above in same order except this time I wandered by foot for almost 4 months. No joy.
Attempt #3-Performed same actions in same order as #1 except this time I actually went to Vault 14, killed the two guards, and tried the door. I then wandered for ~2-3 weeks by car without getting the required encounter.
Attempt #4- Same as #3 except I followed Destroyaz_ suggestion and l wandered by foot after I went to Vault 14 and tried the door. Bingo. I got the encounter in less than 2 weeks game time.

Much thanks to Morticia and Destroyaz_ for your help and concern. This mod is fabulous and rocks like a sailboat in a hurricane!!

It's still weird that it took so long to find. I left the home town of said NPC by car, headed straight for the computer to get the location, and had the special encounter before I got there. Would be interesting to know what variables are involved, and how long it takes me next time playing.

its more got to do with the process speed of your computer due to the fact that f2 is 10 years old and is not built for large processors.
so therefor you're running too fast or too slow on the world map and get too many randoms or not enough.
theres a program called sfall that could help, all mods _should_ have its created file in the fallout2 directory. it called ddraw.ini
open this file with notepad, (not wordpad) have good look through, it controls many varibles affected by you're computer on fallout, and with you reading through this info, you should be able to fix you problem of not finding Random encounters and other new computer/old game grief

That will fix the problem, but I believe the 2.33 version of Megamod is using an older version of SFall that does not have that option yet. Some of you are probably smart (or daring) enough to update it, but I'll wait until MIB88 includes it in the next release. 8-)

So (just to be sure), nobody has accomplished the quests I talked about in my last post on page 23? If you have, let me know how you managed to solve them, thanks.

I'm sorry, but I haven't even done those quests! However, if you absolutely can't figure it out, let me know, and I'll take apart those relevant scripts. Please let me know who it was you spoke to to get those quests.

Hi, everybody. I have read this thread through post by post and have seen my question referenced but have not seen an answer. My question is: Is it possible to access the Abbey computers after giving the Vertibird plans to the Shi? If not, is there any other way to get the location of Carson? Are the Shi quests and the Abbey quests mutually exclusive? Thanks for everyones help.

@ion beam, Im going to give the thing to shi after I get the tanker fob to the monks. complete the monk missions first, then work on the computer ones, btw you can steal the plans off him, but if you give them to any one he kills you, so give other people the plans _way_ after your done getting the fob and the plans to the monks, then after all that you should be ok.... I think,

As regards the Enclave Troops quest, it's given by general Briggins (See screenshot*, guy on the right); The network quest is given by clerk Pol, the guy with the cathedral robe who stands next to general Briggins* (btw, you can find them at the 4th level if I well remember).

So, I took a look at the dialog files. Here's what I got for Briggins, and it seems I was right; it has to do with the military base... as I said, I brought back the holodisks found there... I guess it wasn't what the general expects. I think I should have click on one of the bodies (what I didn't do. I just let the corpses disapear and I came back later to collect the holodisks on the floor... unfortunately, I didn't keep savegames as the bodies were still intact... silly me) :

Code:
{100}{}{General.}
{101}{}{General Briggins.}
{102}{}{The General responsible for scouting in the Brotherhood of Steel.}
{200}{}{Hail Initiate.}
{210}{}{Who are you?}
{211}{}{What are you doing here?}
{212}{}{Are there any orders for me, general?}
{213}{}{I'll to see you some time.}
{300}{}{I'm general Briggins. Don't pretend you haven't heard about me.}
{400}{}{My mission is to study the Enclave's troops movements.}
{500}{}{I don't like to throw my words around...}

{600}{}{Do you want to prove your devotion to the Brotherhood? I don't like upstarts... well, here is a mission for you: not so long ago an Enclave squadron disappeared in the San-Francisco area. They moved out from Navarro, but they didn't return. Find out what has become of them!}
{610}{}{But I already know what happened! I saw their body's in the Military Base.}
{700}{}{Do you have something to say to me?}
{710}{}{I know what has become of Enclave's squadron. I saw their body's in the Military Base.}
{800}{}{Everything is clear now... Well done, recruit. I'll report well to your superiors at command.}
{1200}{}{I haven't any orders for you.}

And here's what Pol says :

Code:
{100}{}{Clerk.}
{101}{}{Clerk Pol.}
{102}{}{The clerk, who is responsible for the Brotherhood of Steels computer net efficiency.}

{200}{}{Greetings, consecrate. What do you want from me?}

{210}{}{Who are you?}
{211}{}{Why do you wear such a strange robe?}
{212}{}{Do you know any interesting news?}
{213}{}{Tell me about the Brotherhood.}
{214}{}{I'll pop in later.}

{300}{}{My name is Pol. I do my best for to keep the computers of the Brotherhood were in a good condition.}

{400}{}{We are people of science. It is a tradition.}

{500}{}{It is enough to sit over the computer, consecrate. And you will know everything.}

{600}{}{There were some strange malfunctions in the system of terminals near the central computer. Try to find out the reasons.}

{700}{}{You wanted to tell me something?}

{710}{}{I've fixed up the system of terminals.}

{800}{}{It is good, consecrate. I'm glad that you know how to treat technical equipment}

{1200}{}{I have so much to do and so little time! Let's not waste precious minutes on idle talk, OK?}

So, to sum up, it's obvious I should have clicked on one of the soldier's body. But what is less obvious is the way to repair the computers network. Once again, I'm gonna have to try to find a way to fix it.

-------------------

EDIT =>

So, it appears I've been able to solve my other quest (and finally, it wasn't that complicated). I explain =>

What you have to do is to turn on the eight computers you can see here :

...once it's done, you have to go to the control room which is situated in the upper room (and once you're there, you click on the right computer and you choose the password "jkh4vsf7s5" and it should be OK) :

You'll get 1000xp for you've been able to fix the network problem :

Then you go talk to Pol to put an end to the quest (you won't get extra XP) :

... Yeah, I was searching a really complicated combination, just like when you have to cure Lenny... wasn't the case. I hope it will help ya folks.

Good job, McRae! I'm sure it will be useful once I get there. :)

So then, it seems "Discover the reconnaissance troop's fate" and "Find out where the Enclave troops disappeared to" are the same quest (?)

Is "Bring the holodisk to Professor Steel" a part of this, or a different quest that can be done at the same time?

No, "find the troops" and "bring the holodisk" are two different things.

Yes, "Discover the reconnaissance troop's fate" and "Find out where the Enclave troops disappeared to" are the same stuff. But I think that if they appear as two different quests, it's because first you have to go to the Base and then notice the bodies of the soldiers... but as I said, you'll have to check everything I'm saying by yourself , 'cause for me the bodies had disappear the second time I came. Yeah, I didn't give a shit about them the first time I came, and I didn't click on one one of them... now I'm stuck for this quest... I will try it in another game (the corpses shouldn't disappear or there will be a lot of people stuck like me. The corpses option in the mapper should be add).

BTW, as regards the holodisk quest, it's just like when Lynette asks you to bring an holodisk to Westin... you don't have any Holodisk in your inventory... all you got to do is to speak to Westin. Here, it's the same. So, don't worry if there's no holodisk in your inventory once the quest is given to ya. All you got to do is to speak to professor Steel. Then he will give you a part (systolic part) and he wants you to bring it to General Briggins in the BOS HQ.

And to answer to your question, I think you can have "the troops' fate" and "bring holodisk" quests at the same time. I just didn't try this way. Something else you'll have to check.

Thank you, McRae.

Yes, that is strange that the bodies disappear. Reading the holodisks tells us that what happened at the Military Base happened a long time ago, and the bodies are still there. Just visiting once should not cause them to start decomposing, (and the Enclave power armor wouldn't disappear unless someone carried it away).

When you get the 5 holodisks, do you need to read them or only take them back to Professor Steel? This has bothered me since figuring out it is part of the 'Black Skilldex Button' problem for me, and I never read them or even pick them up anymore. It might be OK to just pick them up though. (Maybe it's nothing to worry about since I think the new SFall version has a fix for that old problem.)

As I told you I can't check. But I can assure you that just reading the 5 holodisks isn't enough 'cause that's what I did, and I was even carrying them as I talked to General Briggins.

As regards the 'Black Skilldex Button'... well, I had to bear it, but it eventually disappeared... strange... I don't know what has fixed it, given that I didn't do anything to fix it.

Hey I`m stuck in the sewers of Klamath. Collected the wrench from the last locker, return to that door that need it to open, but still nothin happens:/ I tried to put it into active slot and swing it physicly on the door- no effect. Tried to select it from the backpack menu - no effect://
Help:)

Took me a while but I finally figured this out and added what needs to be done to the guide page. I did write that for the benefit of persons playing MIB88's Megamod.

Sledgehammer AND wrench to open that dang door. With both in inventory, it should open.

As for the bleedin black Skilldex button, I'm quite confident that killap and Darek are going to unfuck this once and for all! Game engine problem, it seems, but if anyone can figure out a way around it, they can.
