Van Buren video

I think I'll re-read all the design docs before going to sleep...

Out of curiosity, when and how did NMA acquire that video (or the footage in it, anyway)? Unless it's classified, of course :!:

Impressive coup, guys. Getting hold of the vid, I mean.

Not vastly blown away by what I saw, ultra-early alpha stage or no.

I think people are dismissing the way this looks, because it's not an usual thing to see a game in such an early state of development.
I'm pretty sure many games that are "awesome", seemed crap in alpha. It's just that companies don't show it to people.

I have to say, with all the material that has leaked from Van Buren, I wish whoever had all this stuff would just post the tech demo and be done with it. For that matter, maybe they could leak Jefferson and/or TORN builds too. At this point, I would think the chances of litigation would be very low. Interplay barely has the money to defend themselves from involuntary bankruptcy.

Awhile ago, I kept hinting to my contact at BIS that I would like to take a peek at what the ex-BISers had on their hard drives. I never got anywhere with that, but I can still dream about it

The "demo" in the extras/goodies folder on the original Fallout CD comes to mind

And here I was, thinking I was past the sadness of seeing Van Buren cancelled.

It doesn't look finished of course, but man... It really looks like it had some great promise. Ugh, I hope it will someday, somehow be released... Goddamn.

Thanks NMA.

Yes and no. Yes, you are seeing a placeholder UI, no real combat, placeholder textures, defective shadows, and many pre alpha stuff; still, in particular at the hight of the classic Fallout camera, it feels like Fallout, and that's great, the way they worked with the old items and guns (except the flamethrower) and had to remake them to look just like they did previously. Hats off to the artists, since so much of the original work was missing, and the rotating camera really adds something to the flow of the game.

No in the sense that the game was supposed to run at very high framerates on a GeForce2 MX 400... I mean the game was intended to run on new machines from 2003, and not to leave the fans with old machines behind, so you wouldn't see many more polygons.

An early techdemo, but shows the potential was there, kudos to you former BISers

I love the video, nicely done. The game looks IMO great as for an alfa version even though the dialogue window and quick battles suck.

PS: if you have the energy, Puuk; any clue as to what KoC said? Were the floating damages intended for the final game?

Honestly, I don't remember. If I were to venture a guess, I'd say yes, it would have made release. It was coded in and left over from Jefferson (BG3 for those keeping score at home).

Not perfect but good, very good. Well, i rather play this than oblivion with guns... How about you?

And i also ask this question, where did nma staff get the gameplay video? Are you in possesion of the tech demo?

:) Why are you doing this, Tannhauser? My heart was almost healed. Nice piece of work anyway.

By the way, the alternative link is here (without any 6-minutes idle)

to be honest i almost cried myself

this all community is like big family and this game is like our little child

child which died and we just saw how pretty it would be to be all together

and i cant even imagine myself to trying imagine what feel now people who was working on this game...

I would like a lot to see a game like this. How sad is that games like Black isle's F3 are gone meanwhile we have games like WoW, Oblivious and the next retard-game Two Worlds.

Thanks for the video

It didn't look bad ....but watching that and knowing that it wasn't finished made a little pice inside me die......I...think.....of what could have been.

I'm not even going to watch it. I'm crying a little bit now, though.

Man unlike what the screenshots indicated it looked fantastic in motion, considering it had a lot of development ahead of it they certainly had something worth of the Fallout name in their hands...

:rip: Van Buren :rip:
