kumquatq3 posted a few graphics at the Obsidian forum from the cancelled Van Buren (BIS' Fallout 3 game) that we didn't seem to hitherto have, observe:

The first one is, according to my info, a field laboratory for Science-oriented characters, and the latter - well, that must be a character creation screen, innit?

Also, in our Files section, you'll find a set of TrueType fonts from VB, for modders et consortes.

Thank you Briosafreak!

UPDATE: Briosafreak also linked to an image from the VB techdemo at the Nuka-Cola forum

sweet :)

I like them both. The character screen doesnt seem be be finished but it gives me the trusty fallout feeling. just the vaultboy is missing. And the text could use some work.

Where do all these pictures, art and docementation come from? Do the ex-producers leak it out litle by litle or does a unknow fallout fan got all the stuff already ? I would realy like to know by now ....

Notice the similarities between the VB character system and the one from Arcanum, specifically the Feral Kid trait?
I think this system would have worked great...
(After some tweaking, of course)

Only one Firearms skill? Does that mean the Firearms skill would have encompassed Small Guns, Big Guns and Energy Weapons?

And what about the Security Skill? What was that meant to be?

Looks pretty good, although the field laboratory looks way too clean. It's like it's just been constructed and purchased.

Nice to see there were new traits (Feral Kid, Red Scare, One In A Million, ...). I wonder what new Perks they came up with.

*drool*

Yes. JE Sawyer had openly discussed this on the Interplay forums and gotten a LOT of flames because of it. He was planning to integrate all firearms skills into one.

I'm guessing laying and disarming traps.

I never understood that too, seems that system was based on Jagged Alliance, but i was never persuaded by his arguments. I don`t remember what they were now :?

That may have been an early render, before the artist "dirtied" up the textures on the model.

wow so thats how F3 would look like is Van Buren got finished.
The grafics arent that great but I like them. 15 and 9 AP ? Did the pc and npc's have more action points then fo 1 and 2.

like to see more pics of the tech demo plz and while your at it send the whole techdemo aswell :P

don't like fake 3d..but i like the menu of the second pic..would be nice with different font...you can't read the "FEMALE" stuff..

i'm sure it was nowhere near finished or polished and was quite a bit in an alpha stage still... so i can forgive all these screens, it is just nice to what how the game was turning out and what was planned and changed in the game system

I like the new traits in the character screen. The compact firearms option is questionable in its use but I do like the nice streamlined approach to the skills menu. It looks a lot more organized and easy to view than the previous ones used in fallout 1 and 2. The threshold section seems rather strange and overly large but alls well.

As for the screen from Nukacola... mmm the characters look strange but I'm sure I'd adjust and hrm... they look very CLEAN, in comparison to their environment.

Does anyone know how the ap were to work in VB? The numbers for displayed weapons seem... exaggerated, but the weapon art does look very nice.

The character menu wasn`t a done deal, but would be very near from that. The NukaCola pic shows how the zoom operated, it´s a really close look. The camera would start in the normal perspective from the other games and could go even closer or further away, in all directions.. Think Silent Storm with low poly models. The Oblivion engine could bring the same camera and high polygon count...if they wanted too...

By the way the lights on the vault level weren`t finished, and you can find the footprints bug, since it`s so close.

Looks really nice I liked the ability to pick you're appearence and the deception skill in the diplomacy section, which I'm guessing is a tradeoff of the speech skill, The science field lab, a little too clean but it's nice to think how there can be skill specific labs-workstations.
glad to have more perks can never have enough. What confuses me is that the picture on the nuka-cola forums shows the guy in the vault has -95 action points

Uhm, this blade on the shot looks strange. Like another out of place wakizasomething.

Although I DO think that a single katana is good for Fallout ;]
