I once had to spend quite a bit of time talking with someone who was upset after I had told them off for not sending me something via e-mail as instructed. I believe they thought they had sent it, or suffered from a technical problem, but I originally assumed that they were being lazy and had not completed the work. Moral of the story being, give people the benefit of the doubt when you don't know them well and try not to make many assumptions, especially when the communication method is as potentially unreliable as the internet.
For another quick proof, "Time to talk to them" (sounds better), "seal us in", "treat us like test subjects/use us as test subjects".
