A right proper chap.
I loves me some dazzle camouflage, almost tempted to paint a tank in it as mine are a basic urban grey/blue due to swapping colour schemes so often.
Purple and white is always cool, seen one of two Tau armies painted like that and it looks good.
Book wise there are some very good ones out there. The Gaunt's Ghost rides high on making the world more believable with Dan Abnett's lore making it's way into the tabletop game. For instance vox casters and lho sticks are his inventions.
However I must mention Sandy Mitchell's Ciaphas Cain novels, essentially Harry Flashman in space and feature Guard units who are slightly less awesome at everything than the Ghosts. Read Emperor's Finest recently and it makes a refreshing change from the Space Marine worship that is so common in the books. Also adds back old school 'stealers.
Most of the other Guard books are pretty good as well, Double Eagle is a great one about the pilots of the Navy/Guard and Dead Men Walking is the Death Korps v.s. Necrons.
I feel iffy about the Heresy books though they are very popular, quite why the Emperor put the Primarchs in charge of millions of men when they have trouble tying their own shoelaces without killing thousands of men or falling to Chaos is rather confusing.
