Wasted Potential

...Has anyone mentioned that the game is taking place in the winter months in Boston?

I'm pretty sure the Boston area gets fairly harsh winters.

It starts in fall, so it would be unreasonable to make two separate maps just for that purpose. Also, we can count on the climate being different after a global nuclear war.

For a while, maybe. 210 years would result in a lot of the damage correcting itself when it comes to climate.

Wasted potential... lets see... all of the companions, Salem, The museum of Witchcraft, Concord, The settlement building stuff is absolute dogshit. The only thing I like about this game thus far is Diamond City.

Diamond City was alright but it was kind of empty... the whole dialogue system limited your choices.

I only played the game once so maybe I've missed some bits. I've discovered trough wikipedia for example that there is something I haven't discovered because I didn't have the required level according to wiki. Anyway Diamond City still counts as wasted potential. It also looks and sounds like Megaton and Tenpenny Tower combined.

About they mayor, as on wiki "One can learn that he is a synth once reaching level 30 and travel to Diamond City, starting the quest In Sheep's Clothing, by being given the radiant quest Political Leanings from Justin Ayo, or by reading a terminal within The Institute. "

It's surprising how much wasted content there is in this game.

Heh, yeah I've said it and I will say it again: This game's main feature is wasted potential. It's like youre playing Fallout 4 Demo.

Diamond City gets a stamp of "Fine". It works as a mostly self-sufficient settlement, but is pretty barren otherwise. It kinda is like Megaton in that it's inspired by a gimmick but instead of stopping there, it thinks on how the inhabitants there would survive. Unfortunely, it gets bogged down by bland writing.

I agree. Great location that goes nowhere because there is no dialogue to be had thanks to the wheel and voiced protagonist. The transition to the stupid dialogue wheel and bad voice acting has lead to most of the storytelling being environmental, observational storytelling. That's great, but fanboys are claiming that the lacking dialogue makes it easier to role play because you can just pretend there is content where there is not.

There is an amazing, compelling game inside Fallout 4, it's just buried so far beneath so many stupid design decisions that I can't find it.

There's nothing worth there. It's more boring then Klamath.

Comparing Megaton to Diamond city I only notice how Bethesda saw Obsidian designing a realistic settlement in terms of "self sufficiency" and thought they would be retarded to make a new game and leave that out. Not that they care any way. How many settlements are in this freaking game? Diamond, Goodneighbor and what? I discovered Bunker hill towards the end of the game in a quest where 4 factions were shooting each other from everywhere and anyway it's a entitled as a "Player Settlement" and that's not a praise. It's empty and useless like all the other settlements.

At least you if you replay Fallout 2 you have some quests that you can play differently. And IIRC you also return to it to get a part for a particular car

@Dr. Fallout:
That's why it's fine, if it was in another game, you would say "eh" and move on.

It only stands out because a little bit of thought was put into it. Not much, but you take what you can get in this game.

How does Goodneighbor becomes self-sufficient, anyway? It's much smaller and I didn't see any kinda of farm in there.

Bethesda is quite brilliant, really. They didn't have to make settlements - settlement crafting makes the player do it for them. So there's only a handful of actual settlements in the game.

Brilliant. This probably cut years from development time.

I thought FO4 wouldn't be so shitty. I came to realize it was wrapped up in a shiny package but the game is just like FO3 was. Blank and illogical.

You're asking too many inconvenient questions. You'd best stick to praising the great performance and lack of loading screens...

They put edible plants in Diamond City, I'd call that a giant leap for their world building.

They made a Fallout game? Worship it for ever!
