Brian Fargo have tweeted a screencapture of the Wasteland 1 remaster in development by Krome Studios. The remaster will be released later this year and is apparently also coming to xbox.

>_>

Are... Are we going to be allowed to slaughter children and babies at the Rail Nomads again?
Cause that was a trip.

great news. i like the first wasteland but it didn't age well and the rather symbolic graphics and having to read dialogs from a piece of paper don't add to the experience

Wait what the fuck? Krome studios still exists?

Wasn't the last good game they made in like... 2002?
After ty the Tasmanian tiger all they put out was trash like
Star wars the clone wars republic heroes and hellboy: the science of evil or fuck me the godamn transformers revenge of the fallen game. I thought they died a long time ago.

I don't know about this one. I really did not like Wasteland 2 that much, gameplay and content.

I respect Wasteland for being the inspiration for Fallout but I would probably have enjoyed the game much more had I started with that series.

Krome made that Hellboy game?
I am a big fan of Hellboy and related universe comics but I find it disappointing there has not been one good game based on the franchise.

Didn't they also do those ports of all Interplay RPGs?

That looks...weird. Really weird.
I was very happy with the first remaster, which added paragraphs to the game and made the overall game more accessible, but this is just weird. Looks like a bizarre board game where scale is really off.

That is actually a pretty good description.
The studio should have considered scaling up other characters and scenery to the guy representing the player party.

Honestly, I would have preferred if the studio made the whole thing 2D and made the whole thing something like Battle Brothers in map view.

Looks like Wasteland 2 models in the screenshot so I'm assuming they reworked the engine slightly and reused art assets as it'd be far less costly.
Besides, WL1 was more of a representation of what your character is around so it looking like a board game doesn't bother me at all.

I'm actually more concerned as to whether they've updated it to make certain skills and stats more useful and if they've added any from of story content and finally, reworked how the battle system worked as it was extremely simplistic for its time.

Old one's definitely still playable but it doesn't need a graphical update, it needs a gameplay update.

I wonder if they could add some sort of optional combat system that would work like the combat in Skyshine's BEDLAM or something like that.

I've heard that the combat system in WL1 is a bit on the simplistic side so it would be fun with a different option.

I wanted to play Wasteland but just never got around to it. I've been waiting for Wasteland 2 to go on sale for like $10 or under because I'm gonna have to look for mods to fix all the guns mistakes since those irk the hell out of me. I know, it is petty but a m14 shooting 5.56? c'mon man.

i think it fits the game. making the graphics more 'realistic' (like fallout or wasteland 2) would require some changes to the basics of the gameplay. my guess is that they're trying to make it pretty faithful to the original which is cool

I think you might be thinking of the loathed Beamdog?

Pretty much how I feel about this too. I like Wasteland 1 a lot and having nice shiny graphics on it wouldn't be so bad, I guess? The other remaster was super nice with music and paragraphs for sure.

I think my complaint really lies with the art style. I liked Wasteland 2 enough but the art in some of it really put me off. Especially with character models being so meh while I liked the portraits decently. They never matched though, also something that bothered me all game. Them just using Wasteland 2's art essentially isn't really a strong point. Kinda wish it was something else.

I don't mind it, really, but I gotta go with what @Squadcar said in his last post.

I would prefer improvements on the existing game than a complete revamp. The art style is one of the best qualities of the game.

Pictures like this are what convinced me the most to play the game, despite the gameplay limitation and the not completely original plot.

They create a very unique atmosphere that i am very unlikely to see in current era games. They convey strong feelings without showing you the whole thing, and they are dirty enough to create an entirely different world, with its own grain and visual presence.

I think the only graphical thing I thought "eh" to in Wasteland 1 was the icons for NPCs and Rangers/followers. Those portraits are really good as you said, and the rest of it is just fine.

These atrocious things

I know it's old and it appears in other games, but something about it just feels icky to me. Maybe that it's just a generic looking dude (again, I get it, can't do but so much) and the green is his uniform but just look at the thing. They should just change that and make the images a bit sharper/defined in the gameplay world. I'd be down for that!

I like how in WL2 your party is represented by Desert Rangers badge while you are traversing the map.
