Wasteland 2 Update #49: Release Date Announcement

Damn. I don't meet the specs either and I backed this shit? Better optimize it for those of us with lower grade computers. If I can run Skyrim, this should run just as well. Right?

It was beta specs, wasn't it?
It must've been improved by now...but yeah, those numbers aren't the most pleasant thing I'm seeing. Unless they optimize it really good, there's no way I'm playing W2 in foreseeable future. I'm almost glad I didn't back it.

@Kilgore Trout:
Those scary numbers have been revealed with the beta version:
3.0 GHz i5; 8 GB RAM; Direct X 9.0c Compatible Video Card 1GB VRAM; Direct X Compatible Sound Card; 20 GB HD Space
Those are the recommended specs, not the minimum.

Minimum:
OS: Windows 7/8/8.1/XP/Vista (32 or 64 bit)
Processor: 2.4ghz Intel Core 2 Duo or equivalent
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: Nvidia 260 GTS or Radeon HD 4850 - 512 MB of VRAM
DirectX: Version 9.0c
Hard Drive: 30 GB available space
Sound Card: DirectX compatible sound card

Recommended:
OS: Windows 7/8/8.1 64bit
Processor: Intel i5 series or equivalent
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: Nvidia 460 GTX / Radeon 5770 - 1 GB of VRAM
DirectX: Version 9.0c
Hard Drive: 30 GB available space
Sound Card: DirectX compatible sound card

These aren't final specs, no, but I don't know how much they'll change prior to release.

Thanks Brother None, this is a good piece of news!
At least for the others, because I'm still behind by the skin of my teeth with C2D E4500 @2.2 GHz + 2 GB RAM + 512 MB GTS 250. Oh shit! :smile:

I'm somewhat above minimum, and I wager I'd run the game at medium settings at best, but I still think it's a bit much. I'd never imagined it would take such hardware to run the game, though, judging from screenshots.
Hopefully, they'll go lower. A bit more lower.

This is a dumb question but is Wasteland 2 multiplayer?

Player One uses the mouse, Player Two controls the keyboard, Player Three looks at the screen and tell everyone what is happening and Player 4 listen to the game's sound through headphones and relays what they hear.

I don't think it'll go that low. A Unity game that has to load and run levels this large simply does require a good chunk of hardware, like I don't see the RAM requirement ever going beneath 4GB, and 32-bit systems will have trouble on it when skirting that minimum. We'll optimize it as much as we can but there's limits to how much you can do.

@Atomkilla:
We had it coming, dude. Shadowrun Returns builded on Unity engine runs like a shit on my prehistorical machine and that's a game with small maps and relatively simple mechanics. Unity is not any pinnacle of optimization in terms of system resources management, so not a big surprise for me. Time for upgrade!

Never tried Shadowrun Returns, but yeah, we had it coming. Like I've said, I'm kinda glad now I haven't backed this game.
I'll buy it for sure, but after some time...

In any case, is Numenera also on Unity? I hope that one will have lower requirements. And Pillars of Eternity, for that matter, but that's a completely different story.

You've got three months to save up, what, a couple hundred bucks for a new comp? You can do it.

Well, that kinda depends where you live and how much you earn.

why is it such a resource hog anyway? I mean the visuals look good from the screenshots, but damn, cant be just that now, can it? :confused:

Best. Avatar. Ever.

Good that BN clarified the specs issue. I'm good in that case. Big relief.

Will the game be modifiable (editor), for those crazy laymen who wish to punish themselves?...:VIf so, then I can imagine some interesting stuff being made for the game into the future.

I do expect something more old-timer friendly for the final version, after optimization and all that jazz, but right now I'm definitely out of play.
Oh no! They expect you to have a 2011 PC to play a 2014 game! The horror :mrgreen:

Jokes aside, I'm not particularly interested in Wasteland, but I've heard so much about it that I had to check it out. The graphical assets do look...kinda low-quality. Maybe it's just the questionable art direction, like 2bak said, or maybe there are engine limitations. Tesla Effect also runs on Unity and has pretty fugly graphics.

@fedaykin:
I'm just too old and lazy for those regular hardware/OS upgrades, dude! I'll gladly leave that for young and fresh geeks. Until my old rig still breaths, even with some choking, I'm fine with it. Enjoy your day one purchase though and don't forget to report us if that game is any good or not, please! :razz:

Torment and PoE are both Unity games yes. I have no idea what the specs of either will be but I wouldn't expect them to be dramatically lower than WL2's final (which should be lower than WL2's current). There's only so much you can do to optimize these really large levels in Unity.
