Wasteland Workshop trailer revealed; Pokemon fans wet themselves

Abacab

First time out of the vault
For all you simpletons out there, Fallout 4 will now have super cool features like collecting enemies, training them and making them face off in death matches! Wow! Bethesda will happily take your money for the latest Fallout Sims: Hot Radioactive Deathmatch expansion. Not to outdo themselves, they've even included new settlement objects so you can truly immerse yourself in that deep, brooding role playing experience that Bethesda's Fallout is known for. Watch as the idiotic AI charges into fancy new traps you lay for them around your settlements. To top it off, the widely requested feature of taxidermy was added at last minute so you can litter your settlement with more useless crap. Enjoy!

Settler used molotov cocktail.
It hurt itself in the confusion.
Settler has fainted.

Hey, come on, Pokemon is a series beloved by millions of people, and I myself enjoyed Pokemon Y. Don't compare a series that's actually still decent after over 20 games to Bethesda's attempt at Fallout that crashed and burned after a single game. (and some might argue, before a single game.)

Excuse me I have to make a comment here. Allow me to correct some of the users here: There are no strict set of rules that a Fallout game should abide by in order to be a "true" or "proper" Fallout game. The wasteland workshop will be an unprecedented slam-dunk because it's tapping into the aspects of Fallout that are most enjoyable for the true fans. Let me clarify: The reason Fallout 4 was such an outstanding success in comparison to the lesser known 1 and 2 is because it actually tried breaking new grounds. I know this is not the popular opinion here but it has to be said.

I can't tell if this is a bad joke or not.

Apparently the direct copying of features that modders created for the previous game, and literally stealing ideas from other current AAA titles for other features, most of which actually retard the progress of the game as an actual RPG.. those things are "breaking new ground"

You know, because we're redefining the term "NEW GROUND" now to mean "shit other people already did better"

Whirling dervish, While I respect your opinion, I disagree with what you said about Fallout 4 STEALING ideas from other AAA titles. The reason Fallout 4 is commonly viewed by countless gaming communities as a master-class title is due to the fact Bethesda IMPLEMENTED creme of the crop aspects of other titles in such a seamless way it blended right into the Fallout universe & lore. Fallout 4 moves in a brave new direction while keeping up with modern times. Did Fallout 4 also steal the concept of being a first person shooter? Or having an experience and level-up system? Games build on and improve systems from previous titles, this is nothing new and if it had not happened we'd all still be playing stale turn-based isometric RPGs.

There's a better Big Lebowski quote constantly applicable to this forum on a regular basis: "No, Walter, you're not wrong, you're just an asshole."

And I mean it's one thing to be proud of being an asshole, but I mean I hope it's something some of you stay to true to in real life so you pull it on the wrong people sometimes and get your jaws taken off. BUT THAT'S JUST MY ONION.

I know you're being ironic, but I enjoy breaking strawman arguments in order to show the dominance of the original games over the newer ones.

Jet being pre-war, Ghouls no longer needing to eat/drink despite Necropolis, Gecko and Reppcon HQ saying otherwise, and Potatoes being extinct blended right in with the Fallout Universe and Lore did it?

Fallout 4 could have easily kept up with modern times, while at the same time having a decent dialogue system, out of combat skill checks, and accurate lore. These are aspects that they didn't have to ditch, but did so.

Yes there are. It has to have the ability to define your character, consequences for actions, and opportunities for non-combat centric characters. Fallout 4 fails in these basic aspects.
the aspects of Fallout that are most enjoyable for the true fans
And we're not true fans?, If anything we are truer fans than the Bethesda fans, because we like the series for what it is, not for what is's become.

Some people(Including me), Would be happy with that.

If you looked at User Reviews, or Steam Reviews, you'd see it got more hate than any other Fallout game ever made. Not to mention that the only reason it's "An outstanding success" is because the vast majority of people are casual gamers who like to shoot stuff, and aren't really in to Roleplaying, also most people are too dumb to realize that older games can be good, and automatically assume old = outdated. Not to mention that Bethesda had one of the biggest marketing campaigns out of any game, so the vast majority of FO4's fans are people who never played another Fallout game.

I liked the quote I used.

That's why you only do it on the interwebs especially if you're a neckbeard who constantly trolls on interweb forums but doesn't want to get his ass kicked by some body builder types.

i don't understand the love Pokemon gets, the games solid and enjoyable but they've been releasing the same game for about 20 years, only occasionally adding a new gimmick or dimension.

I can't speak for people who've been playing since the beginning since I've only played Y and Pokemon Omega Ruby, but for me personally I like collecting pokemon and training them. It's just a really satisfying experience finding this pokemon you think looks really awesome/gorgeous, capturing it for yourself, naming it, and raising that little cutie/badass to level 100 and use it to take over the world along with other pokemon you catch along the way. I dunno, it sets off my paternal instincts, I really care about my pokemon. It takes a while to train them fully, especially with the new training features on the latest ones. Plus there's more ways to bond with them now through Poke-amie, which just makes me love them even more. Maybe it's just because I'm a lonely sap with only my fiance for company but they start to feel like family after a while. I can imagine the reason people enjoy all the games to date is probably because you can take your team from the first game and, with the right tools, bring your entire first team all the way up to the latest game. So from Red to Omega Ruby. Thus I can imagine people have tons and tons of sentimental value with their team, especially if they're the type to port old teams to newer games.

I owned Pokemon back in the day on Gameboy and it was fun as hell as a kid. I wish Nintendo would let a another studio get a crack at making it a more mature RPG.

Nintendo's never been the type to be completely open with dark themes. They've always been very subtle at it. But it's always in there. Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess will always reign supreme as the epitome of subtle darkness in a video game to me.

Another example would be in Super Paper Mario, a MARIO game, where literally all the main characters are KILLED by the main villain and go to the equivalent of Hell. One of them even ends up tortured in said Hell. I'm not making this up, it's called the Underwhere. http://www.mariowiki.com/The_Underwhere It also has one of the creepiest scenes + music of any game I've played in a long time, the River Twygz. Here's the music for it below. That alone should give you an idea of the horror. Plus one of the characters is a direct reference to The Exorcist, neck snapping + spinning head and all. Now that I think about it, a lot of characters die in this game.

Even Pokemon has some damn dark themes. Lavender Town is a good example. Ghosts, dead people, cannibals, etc. There's at least 20 different pokemon that are either dead humans, absorb human souls, kill humans on sight until tamed, or are the souls of humans trapped in a pokemon.

Let's also not forget Giygas from Earthbound, or the many many deaths in Mother 3.

Nintendo is the KING of subtle darkness.

Isn't there a theory that Link is dead in Majora's mask and, it's all about the 5 stages of grief? Also the original Legend of Zelda is set in the universe in which Gannon won, you can even see the dead Deku tree.

Yeah, basically. That's what I was talking about with Majora's Mask being one of the subtly darkest games of all time. If not the most.

Yes I'm familiar with the original Zelda being in a scenario where Link died in Ocarina of Time. That's all laid out in the official timeline, which I find to be a very interesting read.
