What about Fallout?

Let's hope the last time we chacked wasn't too long ago....

Because it's the only quote that presented Bethesda's intentions in a rather detailed way:

1) MW style - that alone speaks volumes and dismisses a lot of traditional Fallout features.

I'm curious, could you link me to that? :)

Oh, I see.

Not news rather because it's two years old, not that it doesn't have a meaning. But then again, their plans might have - or might not - changed from that time.

Not much, I s'pose, but nevertheless.

Thanks for the good job, BTW.

Last time I checked, marketing doesn't maked games.

You really don't know much about Pete, do you?

And the extraordinary new FO3 page deserves a newspost, so people can recheck it.

Why can't Bethesda do what Tiggers do best and just bounce into the goddamn ocean?

The closer we come to the point where they'll reveal actual information on the game the more nautious I get when I realize just how far from the original vision this game will come. This isn't a side-game with a hyphenated title, Bethesda's Fallout 3 will be canonical, and it's going to be like our goddamn Phantom Menace.

It makes me want to vomit.

"we'll do what we do best" is not a detailesd description of how you make a game.
Well, it kinda is. It's not hard to imagine what Bioware's Fallout 3 or Obsidian's Fallout 3 or even Spiderweb's Fallout 3 would have been like, for example.

Yes, I agree it's bad, but on it's own, I'm not going to take it as serious as you'd like.
I don't have any expectations or preferences in regard to how you take comments.

Indicative that it won't be isometric and will be realtime? Again, that's not news.
MW style sounds a bit more specific than first person + real time, as MW/OB combo differs greatly from Gothic and Bloodlines, for example.

Considering that a design doc is used while making the game while quotes from marketing guys usually aren't, I would disagree.
Unfortunately, marketing guys often have much bigger effect on game development than design docs. As you very well know, one of the reason Fallout was such a great game is because the marketing department wasn't involved. The second game, however, clearly shows the extra-added value and unconventional wisdom of the marketing people: No, no, no. You guys are doing it all wrong. A starting dungeon is a must! What? Yes, a dungeon. People like dungeons, so shut the fuck up and give them a fucking dungeon.

Or did you forget "supernerds"? that had 4 logically connected sentences too (though that one has shown to reflect on their attitude, true)
Supernerds? The one from the SA forums?

Last time I checked, marketing doesn't maked games.
See above.

Better Living Through ... Marketing

Better Living Through ... Marketing

Briosafreak:
Oh yeah, definitely, he is the "new Bethesda"

""new Bethesda"" capitalized or co-opted the traditional media covering the launch of Oblivion. To side step the bandwagon mania, and the information stone wall, one had to seek out game forums. It was the player reviews that told the truth about ''the wall'' {Oblivion Burn Out}, precipitated by the Bethesda penchant for scaling that spites more players then it appeases.

Whether it be more horse-shoes than bulls-eye, let me lean the spin, shade the tone, with this fragment of a lost epigram:

... , he is the "new Bethesda"

... the moral equivalent of Karl Rove ...

Media Monopoly

Media Monopoly

Information control can become mind control.

If it meant controlling all main stream media information on your product,
with millions and millions of dollars at stake, almost 'real' money ....
wouldn't you climb a tree and tell a lie, rather than stand on the ground and tell the truth?

It's as if the products, inanimate or air breathing, can not stand on their own 'feats'. Being a good game or a good candidate will never be enough, must be a blitzkrieg of superlatives, with a whisper campaign as counter point, too much potential profit at risk.

When marketing is on a 'war footing', would not truth be that cliched first casualty?

Silencer:
Seriously, though...

No, we don't have to swing at every pitch, bite at every hook, salute at every flag, vote for every .....

How the fuck are they going make the game fallout if it is open-ended. I just hope to god that the put some effort in the conversation trees. because oblivion was shit for NPC conversation.

I saw a mudcrab today!

Heh, or the NPCs around town talk to each other for 4 (game) hours abouth "Have you heard about Kvatch?" and then say see you later, and stand staring at each other for another 4 game hours.

Eh, well, I still am waiting for more "decent" news on FO3. But methinks I will be waiting a long time.

On their site job section, probably already pointed out ages ago;
'LEVEL DESIGNER -- Rockville, Maryland

Design, build, and script levels for future Elder Scrolls and Fallout products. Includes working in our proprietary toolset to design, build, light, and script game areas.

Candidate should have:

Excellent sense of 3D game space and gameflow.
Experience with designing, building, and populating game levels.
Experience scripting or programming complex interactivity.
Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Experience with The Elder Scrolls Construction Set a plus.
Experience with modular kits a plus.
Creative writing a plus.
Knowledge of Role Playing games and The Elder Scrolls or Fallout a plus.
Game industry experience a plus. '

Thats for anyone still thinking it won't be mw with guns. [All 2 people in the world]

I can't wait for the day they proudly release their FO3 so I can shit on their efforts.

Yeah, it's old news. I still like, though, that all matters involving what makes a good role playing game and Fallout game specifically are plusses and not required. Knowlege of Elder Scrolls was also a plus, which was the last nail in the coffin for me that this title will be Oblivion-with-guns.

Well all of this doesnt sound too good, well ok sounds pretty horible in fact, but i there still hope. Now only if we coud make the some extrememist muslims believe that besheda are blasfemers and they woud bomb it. So to do that extrememist muslims have to play fallout too , like it and get outraged about fallout 3 as we are. All in all its a flawless plan :D
