A SLR camera can be connected via an inexpensive adaptor (basically a steel ring) to a telescope. You just connect the SLR to the adaptor which connects to the telescope (without any eyepiece on!). Focus and that's it. Basically you turn the whole telescope into a (large) objective lens for the camera.
I'll look into that, might be a way to get my feet wet in it without investing my arm.
