What exactly is the point of slavery in Fallout 3?

Sprites are sprites, you really don't see the details, not as much as in 3D. And youd think they would have enough time in f3, as they made it for 4 years. Fallout 2 was done in 1.
And it really doesn't bother me that much, not a big deal to me.

Fallout 2 is just addon nothing more its not a new game ZERO improvement over Fallout 1 only fev bug fixes...1 skilled modder could do it him self ofcourse im not saying about fev movies and voice acting...

Seriously this forum sucks more and more its more whining every day so heres a tip:Dont like F3 make a better game or shut up...

Dont like F3 make a better game or shut up...

Here's also a tip: Learn to argue.
"You can't say it's bad if you can't do better" as well as "If I ignore it the game is great" are not arguments among the sentient beings. So, prove you are one.

What exactly is the point of slavery in Fallout 3?

Two reasons.

1. Obligation from Bethesda to make it more "Fallouty" in a futile attempt to please FO1 and 2 fans.

2. So players can blow people who have an actual purpose away violently without having that inconvenient "guilty conscious".

If you don't like [insert book title here], then write a better book or shut up.

If you don't like [insert movie title here], then make a better movie or shut up.

Here's a second tip: If you don't like No Mutants Allowed, make a better Fallout fansite or... well, you get the idea.

Fallout 2 was at least closer to Fallout 1 then Bethesdas "version" of Fallout will ever be. A FPS RPG hybrid with Oblivion like Quest mechanics and unforgiving gameplay (story) is pretty much as far away as it can be from a "true" Fallout. What ever now a true Fallout is.

Anyway. If you dont like this Forum so much ... then why do you have 300 posts? Just curious. And to say that not that many people here are just "whining" without reason. Most can back up their arguments just nicely and provide some evidence while many times arguing with die hard Bethesda or Fallout 3 fans ends most of the time in "youre just oldschool" "you need to evolve" "this is not a game for you granpah" or other kind of such nonsense. How can you even expect a valuable discussion when people refuse to respect your oppinion? If people start to respect OUR oppinion they can expect the same in return. And to say that I see people here geting strikes on both ends, for the case they dont respect peoples sight of things like bashing someone cause it happens that he "likes" Fallout 3. No one has to explain himself why he likes it.

Did you ever heard the 'I dont have to be a master cook' to know what a good steak tastes like? You can give some suggestions that it might need here and there a bit more or less salt, pepper or that the dip is eventualy not the best one for this meal without knowing exactly how a good steak is made.

My point being, if you gentlemen want to allow this issue to further dampen your enjoyment of Fallout 3, then be my guest. My guess is that most of you don't need another reason to begin with.

'k. Here's a thought: don't rudely dismiss other people's opinions as invalid instead of providing counter-arguments. If you can't provide counter-arguments, then just drop the issue. Don't pretend it is somehow our task to ignore flaws in the game and if we don't it's our fault that the game is less enjoyable. A flaw is a flaw unless you can argue it isn't.

Don't pull this one again, it's as close to trolling as you can get without actually trolling.
Rudely dismissing the opinions of others is a regular practice on this forum...pretend you post in a largely civil environment all that you like, but as an administrator you should be quite aware of what happens when anyone posts a pro-Fallout 3 statement here. The intolerance is palpable.

If I were to provide a logical argument to prove my point, how do you think the everyone would respond? They wouldn't - at least not constructively. This thread in particular is proof positive. What I'm doing is trolling only because I hold an opinion that goes against the forum at large. Say we lived in an alternate universe where NMA accepted Fallout 3 for the great game it truly is...say some one posts a thread burning on it. Trolling, right? Sure, but only because people don't want to hear it. The same applies here. That thread burning on Fallout 3? It exists, plainly! However, it avoids the label of a troll post because its pages are filled with a bunch of guys agreeing with one another.

You're an intelligent guy, and I've enjoyed talking to you. If I came off as rudely dismissive in my posts, I'm sorry. It was not intended. My only wish is that you would admit that the validity of your points does not automatically invalidate my points, and vice versa. I accept that you don't care for the game, and wasn't trying to change your mind. All I wanted to do was present a dissenting opinion. I enjoy this game, and I feel I should satnd up for it where I can.

If openly defending a game I enjoy makes me a troll, then so be it. I didn't start this discussion, I responded to it (which may be why you only consider it borderline trolling). Who knows? Perhaps I've crossed the threshold with this post.

The issue has been dropped. As I said in my previous post, I said what I had to say.

Generally trolling is the act of provoking people into a flame fest. Dissenting opinions are not considered trolling, unless horribly/intentionally ignorant and stupid.

I don't believe my posts meet any of those criteria, so you may be mistaken.

[Note to moderators: This post is just as relevant to the subject as the one it is responding to.]

I applied your exact logic to parallel situations, clearly showing the absurdity of your thinking, and all you have left is a personal attack with a delightful misogynistic twist. An attack that indicates a complete ignorance about my opinion of Fallout 3, no less.

A more valid example would be the centaurs - supposedly random mutations of animals and humans thrown into the vats, they somehow all look the same, both in Fallout 1/2 and in Fallout 3. That doesn't make any sense, and especially for a 3D game like Fallout 3 it reeks of laziness.
Why does it reek of laziness in only Fallout 3? Why doesn't it do so in the original Fallouts? And why would they randomly generate different models of a centaur to fix such a minute detail?
That is easy. Cause the sprites in Fallout 1/2 served as the "archetypical" image of the enemy/NPC with the point to give you a rough image about 'what they could look like'. It never had the point to really convince you that this is a REAL creature in front of you that your avatar is fighting which is the difference compared to the graphic of Fallout 3 and the way you are thrown in first person for the effect of "immersion". It changes your perception of the game world and the way you feel and play. (anything else would be just arbitrary abstract. So why not complain about the fact that Fallout 3 is not really immersive? Fallout 1/2 never ever claimed to be immersive anyway.). For the case you needed a more fleshed out image of a character you had the talking heads for this that never looked the same. You had with the Supermutants Harry which gave you a insight to what they could look like. Same with Marcus in Fallout 2 or Seth in Fallout 1 for the ghouls. You have seen them and had now a image about what the other ones would look.

One that is thinking ISO/birds view gameplay might be "lazy" when it comes to the aperance of enemies missunderstood the concept of such a gameplay that it never was thought really to "suck" you in the gameplay in the same sense like some First Person experience.

It all depends what you defend. And how you defend it.

And at the moment it is just that you have in many places Fallout 3 to shot uff yoru brain when playing. Like computers that still after 200 years in the wasteland can work. Without cover. Any visible power source or player interaction (like the need to fire up a generator or repair some wires or what ever). This would not even work in the Fallout world and that is something I have to agree with.

One can argue here of course that it is a issue in general. But usualy most of the time when you had to USE some equipment in Fallout [the glow for example] you had to REPAIR it first. Or if you needed acces to a instalation you had to find it first (vault 13 in Fallout 2) or get some other way find acces (siera army depot, abadoned maripose military base etc.) You were not just thrown in the setting with working equipment and places to loot no 5 away from some community with 10 people that barely could defend themself. The vaults were more of the time hidden locations. Not so vault 101. One has to ask himself why they have not looted it arleady a long time ago? Look at Vault 15 in Fallout 2. You actuly had to sovle a quest and kill the raiders inside so the NCR could gain acces to it. Its not just there waiting for "YOU" only like many places in Fallout 3.

This is an excellent point that people sometimes miss now that games are often expected to be hyper-realistic and completely accurate representations of "alternate universes," so to speak.

My favorite example is Tycho from Fallout. He uses the standard character-in-leather-armor sprites, but his text description is:
You see a man in dusty leather armor with a trenchcoat and gas mask.
As nice as it would have been for Tycho to have unique graphics, my mind does have better resolution than any texture.

The rest of you, please stay on topic. If you want to praise/burn F3, use the appropriate threads.

woooah there *bats down the flames*

I was about to post...

Well I'd like to agree with OP that slavery is rather absent and occasionally I'm granted a due reminder that it exists, for me a big breaker is the fact that places like megaton and Arefu still exist, from what I see a concentrated assault on such 'settlements' would easily wipe them out (let alone my single char destroying every living thing in megaton)

Certain things just hang in the air like the implausible idea they supposedly portray, 'slavery' is one such thing.

It'd the same reason that I look at perfectly inhabitable, yet deserted Vaults.. power plants or other 'good condition' buildings, In more than 2 centuries of post apocalypse life has no group of people thought of such places?

Another sad reminder of this is when I walk into an 'abandoned' building (supposedly in some cases closed from the world since before the war..) and I find food-stuff's or stashes of caps in safes? why would ANY person keep a bag of caps in their safe pre-war? ~oh that;s right "perhaps he was just a collector!" there are a LOT of inconsistent things that crop up. The wonder that is the apparent inclusion of slavery is one that glistens like the very top of an iceberg made of annoyances.
