What is the most addictive video game you've ever played?

I won't buy Diablo 3 the way it currently is.
When i buy a game, i want to own it, not get the right to play it when the server is open/uncrowded and i have an internet connection.

For me, it's Diablo III, hands down, no contest. I don't know what it is about the game, but I could literally play it 24/7 and probably never get bored of it. And I do, which is why I had to uninstall it.

What about you?

Would you play it more online, or off?

If this is what you're asking -- if they suddenly decided to remove Battle.net and all networking support for Diablo III, i would probably play it less. The social aspect has its own motivators to play longer, such as runs, joining people when they find cool events, etc.

I'm not for sure on that though; it could end up being the same

Sorry, I mean DO* you play it more online or offline?

Oh, okay. Mostly I just play by myself.

Once they introduced Clans and Communities I got involved in those, but I still generally still prefer to play alone.

Is Diablo III forced to run through Steam on the PC? I have it on the PS3 but haven't touched it in awhile.

It's a Blizzard game. Like every Blizzard game, it's "forced" to operate through Blizzard's convoluted online setup (ah, the simpler days of SC and D2 battle.net) with their built-in facsimiles of achievements and stats tracking. It has no ties to Steam, unlike New Vegas.

I don't mind Steam, but it's not fair to the people whose internet providers can't handle several GB's of downloads.

I might have some complains with steam (or rather DRM in general), but the way they handle the download itself is quite smooth.

You can stop them at any time, they will stop themselves when you run a steam game (so there is less background calculations) you can initiate many download, but they only download one at once. When download A is over, then it download B. You change change the order of downloads at anytime too.
So you are not forced to keep your computer focused on downloading if you want to do something else, you know that your partial download aren't wasted.
