What is the most addictive video game you've ever played?

Nah. Admit your HOMM3 addiction Pixote, don't be shy! You are among friends here.

ahaha Doom, yes, I've re-played that game so many times. To me it never got better than Doom for the FPS genre. I love me some FarCry and AvP2 and a few others, but Doom 1/2 is still more of a rush.

I'm kinda surprised you said FarCry 2 as I was excessively dissapointed in that game compared to its epic and amazing predecessor. Is it maybe addictive for you because the drive to get 100% completion, with the diamonds and all that?

btw love the avatar, Archer is the best.

I did do a second run on hardcore to get all the diamonds yes, some were quite tricky to snatch.
I discovered the fear mechanic in my first playthrough and spent the whole game terrorising all the bad guys. I really enjoyed the reactions that I got both in combat and in the towns, plus I have a lot of patience when I play this type of game so I stealth'd through out every mission and had a blast.

Eveybody loves Archer!

Probably Age of Empires 2 (+ Conquerors expansion). I wasted a huge part of my twenties on that game.

Started on Amstrad, but i don't recall which game i played the most.

Age of Empires 1 was the game that made me want to play on PC.
I spent countless hours on the first two episodes.

Then, the Golden Age of 3D realms FPS with Duke Nukem 3D, Blood, Shadow Warrior & Redneck Rampage. Those games would never get old, i think... Too bad i have to reconfigure to play those games every times i change my operation system.
Not part of these, but Lands of Lore 1 got me too. Even better, as i don't even have to use keyboard. Even movements are mouse related. I am not fond of that HUD reducing tendancy that we have today...

But the games i replayed the most would probably be Fallout 2 & Half-Life 1. I am pretty sure i will never cease to replay those two.

Now, i am so much into Metro 2033 that i never thought a recent game would attract me that much.
Sure, it is pretty linear, but the setting and the way they convey it is so overwhelming.

It's like a road movie in hell...

I thought Fallout New Vegas would stuck me into it, but i completed Fallout 3 too much recently that i can't stand the low points that managed to be also in FoNV.
It remind me bad memory...

Try to think of the good stuff before the bad stuff, about the Fallout 3 - New Vegas thing.

Metro 2033 is awesome. Last Light too. I immerse myself into the game, so linear or not does not matter for me. You should try it. Gave me a whole new STALKER experience.

It isn't the only issue i have with FONV/Fo3 and i admit FONV do far better that Fo3 even on that point, but i find that those games lack of focus/efficiency.
More than half of the locations are useless/generic. Even it there is more variety in FoNV, you spent countless hours visiting generic places like Abandoned house #17, Cazadore's nest #7 or Ghoul's toxic pool #59. I already have the "125 discovered places" achievement, but seem that there is at least 125 other places to visit (picked explorer).

I admit i don't have to visit all those places and i probably won't on next playthrough, but i like to complete RPG games, particularly in the Fallout Universe, so i make sure to visit everything, talk to everyone, loot every chest, try different quest outcomes at least once. But right now, all these useless places leave me a very bad taste. I wonder how much time they spend building all this uselessness and how much time i spend being disapointed by them. I would rather have a twice bigger strip that any of these places. Hopefully, i will have better time with "choose your faction" related quests and DLC. (the latter having generally better efficiency) All the (not choosing your faction) quests that i did were good and the NPC i talked so far were pretty satisfying. And, for the first time since decades, the setting feels really fallouty.

In a way, i feel better in the more focused Metro universe, it's a welcomed escape from those poorly used open-world.
(not that i hate open-world, just that it doesn't fit in every games)

Back when Minecraft was good (Around 1.7 Beta or 1.8 Beta release.) I was incredibly addicted to that.

I particularly remember spending an embarrassing number of hours constructing a titanic skull fortress on top of the largest mountain I could find, it was made from solid Obsidian and had lava flowing out of the eye sockets.

Inside the skull was a very classical and comfy home decorated with wooden walls, a fireplace (Made using Nether rock to give it a never ending fire.), assorted furniture and all the tools and equipment I needed.

It had three levels, The Observatory, The Home and The Mine, The Mine was a massive network of minecarts that eventually transformed into one colossal cavern that ended up being systematically strip mined.

I've not played Minecraft for over two hours since that update, it just got worse.

I played Fallout 3 many, and I mean many, times now. Thought that is would be the same with New Vegas, but after playing for a while I got back to 3. A game which is also very addicting to me is RollerCoaster Tycoon (first version).

I find Fallout 3 impossible to go back to. New Vegas I've still got 2 playtroughs on that I've left unfinished as of yet. But I reinstalled Fallout 3 and even modded it for an hour, it irritates me at every single turn. I simply couldn't stand it.

Though it'll be considered "old" by most standards, no doubt the most addictive game would have had to have been "Imperialism: The Fine Art of Conquering the World."

My recent bout with addiction was with Civ5. I thought I'm going to hate it, but decided to give it a spin. Two days later after conquering the world after several tries I went to bed, over-caffeinated, eyes watering, carpal tunnel etc... :V

About the Fallouts I think the most playthroughs for me has been with Fallout 2 - mods, no mods etc. Fallout 3 I didn't even finish, although I did try a few character builds before I gave up on the shitty writing. I went through New Vegas a few times, but even with the add-ons I feel like enough is enough. What brings me back to Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 are the aesthetics, the calm pace, the writing. Years later I still discover something that I'd missed the previous XXX times. At the end of the day those new first person FO games are action games - and there are plenty better ones out there.

Pokemon Showdown (The regular Cartridge based games lost a little bit of the addiction factor with the current lack of a reliable way of hacking pokemons in) and basically any game with a competitive aspect and the ability to have different builds.
Also I got addicted hard to New Vegas last year.

Transport Tycoon a long time ago (jeez almost 20 years now). F-22 Total Air War as well. More recently Fallout New Vegas. Funny how it was the second playthrough (to try the DLC) that got me hooked.

First two Fallouts, Diablo II back in its popularity, and pretty much any Star Wars games besides SWTOR.
