What makes a "Fallout" game a real Fallout game to you?

Good writing, good C&C, an interesting setting, fun exploration and a wonderful style.
Exactly, yet you still dislike Fallout 2 even if it has all that, and more!

I get where he's coming from. You can like all those things and still not like turn-based tactics, or even RPGs. None of those things are exclusive to turn-based isometric RPGs. It falls to a matter of preference.

As for my own take on what makes Fallout "Fallout, well I've already described what an RPG means to me, so I would basically say that Fallout just needs to be an RPG, and has to retain its signature dark humour combined with Cold War satire it has always possessed.

I know, but the thing is, if that's all that makes a good Fallout game then Fallout 1 and 2 are great. You need to specify what view at least because it changes RPG mechanics.

Personally, despite the fact that I never liked the originals all that much, I still hold the belief that they are "real" Fallout games, because they are. I don't have to love Fallout 2 to know its merits, just as I don't have to hate Fallout 3 to know its downfalls.

However, I don't like the opinion that people who enjoy less complex games have "lower standards". That's like assuming anyone who prefers football to chess in their free time just doesn't have the intelligence to play chess.

Fallout 1 did it much better, in my opinion. I felt engaged and even enthralled by 1 at times. I never had that in 2. Especially since all the problems I had with 1 felt infinitely bigger in 2 for whatever reason. Again, my problems Fallout 1 are primarily rooted in gameplay problems. Fallout 2 was worse than Fallout 1 because it exemplified all the problems 1 had while not bothering to fix anything except the companions, and I give zero shits about that interface.

For all we know, that could be a massive list. What games do you have fun with, if you don't mind providing examples?

Well, that's settled! For you, at least. Until someone makes a Fallout that you don't have fun with. :smug:

I'll list a couple:
* CoD (I don't play it anymore
* Star Wars: Battlefront 2
* Anything that isn't fantasy

The list is probably bigger, but I don't keep tabs on what games I play.

Also, if this makes me a fucking "casual", just, wow.

I do have more of a tolerance than a ham sandwich, so don't worry about it, I'm actually taking you seriously. It does make you a casual, which there is nothing wrong with. It's not supposed to be an insult. Though I probably expect a few here to say different.

I wouldn't even consider saying any fun game could stick the Fallout name on it and be a Fallout game, though. That would raise a hell of a lot of questions. "Fallout Kart" comes to mind. It could certainly be made "fun", but it still wouldn't make it Fallout.

The thing is, "Fallout Kart" will never happen, because the developer doesn't make games like that.

Fallout Kart is an exaggeration, yes, but hold on... developers?

Which one? Fallout isn't anchored to Bethesda. EA can buy Fallout and turn it in to Mass Effect with a Fallout skin, which would arguably be fun for a lot of people out there, but isn't necessarily a good thing. Some random AAA publisher that rises in the next two years could reach out and take Fallout with their billions and turn it into Call of Duty with a Fallout skin. Which, as I've said, would be fun for a prominent majority, but is not a good thing.

Would you prefer I explain why it isn't a good thing?

I understand why it isn't a good thing, but why would a developer or publisher do that when the Fallout audience won't buy a CoD clone? If that were to happen, don't you think large drop in revenue would be expected?

I'll leave that to the more experienced of this forum to answer.

It is indeed very strange to see someone that liked Fallout 1, loved New Vegas yet hated Fallout 2. I don't think I can figure out which part of the Fallout formula you enjoyed at all.

Did Fallout: BoS do well?

The Fallout audience bought Fallout 4 and, a majority of the audience ate that shit up and asked for seconds.
Fallout 4 is the closest we'll get to a CoD clone, instead it was Borderlands. No drop in revenue though.
Did Fallout: BoS do well?
It sold terribly and was partly responsible for Interplays financial troubles.

I just really hate it's plot, characters and setting. I can't really explain it, and every attempt I've made to question it's plot has been shot down immediately (how exactly does one disprove an opinion?) but I just know I don't like it.

A Fallout game is something I have fun with.

By that merit, then every game in the Fallout series belongs to said series.
I am genuinely curious, I am not bashing your tastes or anything. I just have this annoying trait of asking stuff when I am curious, so don't read what I will type like I am a troll or something :confused:.

Have you played Fallout Shelter and is it a Fallout game for you?

In my opinion Fallout Shelter is almost as extreme as a Fallout Kart :aiee:.

Sorry, haven't played it.

Why, though? Is it too generic? Is it too out of place? Is the tone not right for you? There's got to be a key word that can describe some parts of it you don't like it.
