What we'd like to see in New Vegas?

Raiders that aren't boring copies of Reavers from Firefly.

Kotor 2's Item creation/modification system.

Something like the Super Mutants(adapted to whatever end level threat there is) attacks on various towns if you wait too long in Fallout 1.

And no characters that asking me to blow up a nuclear bomb by in a town full of innocents in their second sentence to me. Unless I'm like a less than 4 Intelligence character that has gone around setting people on fire.

And a Mad Max 2 style siege going on.

A Free-floating camera. As the default setting. Click-to-move controls, because I'm lazy and would rather avoid having to wsad around. By extension, click to attack controls. And VATS that isn't a magic win button. VATS shouldn't have the damage reduction or anything, it's just a pause function to pick called shots. Regular attacks that cost AP.

That's gameplay done. Now, good dialogue, branching, thoughtful quests, decent NPCs, and the world behaving intelligently for once. And not the size of my backyard. Considering I don't have one. That's how small FO3 felt. Communities of more than 5 people.

And plot. If we're in Vegas, a New New Reno is probably unavoidable, but that doesn't mean it has to suck. Mind you, it'll probably be about water again. But I'd like to see factional stuff like New Reno had, with choices as to who you help, and less railroading me into the BoS. Who just shouldn't be there.

If I have to see another plot about water, I might just blow my brains out. I agree with the BoS point. Hopefully if they do make the game (which i assume they will) they'll be factional, but more like the faction they were in the first two games- self interested, elitist, technology hoarders and not the champions of the wastes like f3 made them out to be. you shouldn't have to join or help them if you don't want to.

Vegas is too far away but it'd be cool to see a conflict like the one vault city had with ncr for control of the place.

Real Perception, outdoorsman and random locations:

Since they have put shooter elements in fo3, coupled with the new engine, perception has gone out of the window along with random locations and the use of outdoorsman (did fo3 actually had it?). To tell the truth, I deeply want to have special places that are random and you have to search for them. Even fo tactics had them (i remember finding that unique armor, a joke for diablo at that time :P).

The way to do it? The game makes checks on your skill, on your perceptions and loads different maps for one area. In one gameplay for example, you walk between two locations, there is nothing but desert between them and coupled with a heavy sandstorm you can't see anything so you just walk for a while until you reach the city. With another character with high perception and good enough outdoorsman skill, you can vaguely see in the distance a house for example, through the sandstorm. To avoid knowing through the internet of specific locations, if you aren't supposed to see it, the game doesn't load it!

They could add this to a whole lot of things. A bookcase could be just a simply bookcase with just dusty books in a character with low perception and one with a high perception could notice that there is a book with no dust at all which means that it has been recently read etc etc

There is an even easier way they could bring back the random encounter locations. Besides the main map of Vegas (city map) they can make satellite locations (like "Pitt" of fallout 3) that are accessible via world map travel like the old fallouts. If they use such a 2 layered map and travel option then a lot of old things can be brought back into the game....

More realistic death animations, if a civillian gets shot in the leg he'll move his hand to the wound in shock, or react to it by screaming. If a Raider who's used to pain gets shot in the leg will carry on fighting. If you land a fatal shot on someone's torso they'll stagger slightly, fall to his knees, and THEN go rag-doll. The insta-rag doll system is really unrealistic.

Most games have that form of half ragdoll death nowadays (so do quite old games like Soldier of Fortune 2) but I think the Beth version of the Gamebryo engine can't do it.
Would be nice though the instant ragdoll looks so stupid.

Lets see the return of Damage varibles with various types of ammo and what not.

So we can have TRUE Power Armor again. I want to be damn tank dammit! Slow....sure but me no care me tank garh!

you shouldn't have to join or help them if you don't want to.

That's something I hated in Fallout 3. I have to be a BOS friend, even if I'm the Personification of Evil on Earth. There's actually no need to break the forcefield with Liberty Prime, Bethesda forgot the Taft Tunnels between the Citadel and the Jefferson Memorial. Last I saw, they were totally force-field free.

Why can't I align myself with Autumn? He looked like a reasonable man with a plan. Sure, he would probrably make a new facist USA, but that sure beats post-nuclear anarchy.

Slaughter Manslaught:

What are you talking about? Fallout was never about realism! Bla Bla Bla! Fanboi Firebusrt! Fanboi Fireburst!

Sorry your last post just reminded me a couple of discussions I had :D

Erm sorry but bleh. :( I would like to see JA 1.13 combat over original FO combat any day tbh :). FO combat was not bad but was nothing to write home about either.

Then again, Folks at Obsidian are stuck with using Vats and FPP and other scraps left over from FO3. don't hold out for pipe dreams :(

They also have only a year, perhaps a year and a half, to make this thing.
I don't think they get much opportunity to implement changes.

Jagged Alliance combat in the Fallout Universe... sounds like a game fit for the gods.

Sounds like Fallout Tactics 2 and not Fallout.

Well not really Lexx. The combat in fallout was a bit too bland. Stand here and shoot. The tactics were usually in line of; stand 1 hex near the door/corner step out, put a burst or aimed to the bad guy and retreat.
Sure the combat was a sideshow but it could also be made better :D

My main hope is that they aren't limited to doing New Vegas like the Capital wasteland and it'll be just one location in the wider Nevada area, even if it is a hub of sorts. Better dialogues and writing is a major thing, more important than the gameplay flaws in the engine. Honestly, every time i did a skill check in F3 i had to shake my head at the idiocy of most of them.

I'd like to see more limited higher end technology...something F2 never managed once you got to San Franciso and F3 never managed at all, Power Armour seems to grow on tree's in Fallout 3.
