What would you fine people think of a Fallout set in Germany?

Then I think it would be interesting to play a Fallout game centered around the survivors of one of these bases. Mostly because I feel it would do the best job of bridging the gap to another country.

Hell a running motif could be trying to get back to America, or stubborn survivors constantly trying to keep the old America alive in a new country.

Who knows what other crazy things other countries were working on before the fall of civilization. Maybe someone developed some super powerful death ray that's poised to eradicate an entire continent or a super tech that does something evil. Who knows, I sure don't.

I think the soldiers in those bases would integrate with the local German population after the war, their identity would die out after the first generation save for maybe some raider gangs

Well, you could start with a military vault, located in Germany, for one of the US army bases, and their civilians/families, which totally embraced the American culture. Could be quite interesting.

I'd say yes.
The timeline mentioned in first Fallout intro suggested that the real history is still a thing; it started with Romans, continued through Spains, straight to Hitler shaping the battered Germany into an economic superpower, and ending with 21th century catastrophic events. Since WW2 was a real thing, I don't see any reason why some U.S. military bases with tactical nuclear weaponry couldn't be placed in Germany, as we can see it today.
I think this depends entirely on the political climate though, if the situation in Germany, or Europe in general, changes so drastically in disfavour to the US, they might have been compelled to leave said nations. More cost than trouble, how they say. Particularly if Europe was close to a colapse and on the brink of a war, to speak so.
If Germany asked the US governement politely, to completely leave their soil, I would think that they had no other choice but to do so. Or risk runing in to tensions. With dwindling resources, it is questionable anyway, how much of a presence they would want to afford in Europe, or around the world anyway. Except for some key regions I suppose.

I think that this wouldn't work, because Fallout really needs that Americana feel. Also, I can already see the badly accented English.

I think it could have a lot of interesting ideas to play with. American soldiers from a military base, Soviets, locals of all descriptions. A good writer could do a lot with that.

There's nothing to say that it would have to be set 200 years after the war. 20 or 30 years would be enough.

Not that it will ever happen, of course, which is sad. I predict the next game will be set in either New York or Chicago.

Yay, MORE American cities in the east.

Hey, I never said that was a good thing! I'd prefer to see a game either set in a collapsing Caesar's legion after defeat at Hoover Dam, or on the borders of a fracturing NCR, only kept from civil war by the threat of the advancing legion, depending on which ending for New Vegas is made canon

@Hassknecht your suggestions are cool but i dont think a mall and some flak towers is enough to justify a fallout in germany.

i think a fallout set in the mojave after mr house wins would be cool, and maybe one in ohio

I know, it's a shame that Bethesda is so original.

Barring Bethesda's additions, what's the issue with having a Fallout game take place in the east? The idea behind the franchise is society rebuilding and the obstacles they face, a concept like that doesn't have to be limited to the west.

The canon will be:

All will be destroyed when the giant UFOs rise from under the Mojave and destroy everything and everyone and then a Neanderthal that fell thought a Oblivion's Gate would travel in space and time and arrive after the UFOs had destroyed everything.
The Lone Neanderthal Survivor would then have to board the Mothership Omega and explore it while looking for his "present day" descendant that was kidnapped and will be probed to death unless the Lone Neanderthal Survivor would rescue him and destroy the alien forces.

The East is very akin to the west, it's just more industrialized (this is in the post apocalypse world, before the war there were MANY differences). I'd rather see a game set in Alaska, or some other more extreme area. Florida?
