What's the point??

What is the point of the new DLC? Why would I want conveyer belts, sorting machines, and an elevator? Why would I need any of this? Is Bethesda really that out of touch with their audience?

The WWorkshop got 4.5/5 on Xbox whatever-it-called-marketplace and decent sells so why not continue shoehorn settlements with more of such content? Simply business. Remember, only consoles means something for Bethesda, now with all honesty.

And yes, when Todd is talking about modding, it's console modding, not established PC modding community. Same reason for Skyrim Remaster to even appear. Why it's for PC now? So modders can test their mods before sending to bethesda.dontdonexus. Finally got the answer to this question...
(I hope the true-Pete Hines avatar will deliver insider vibe to this post and some weight)

This is the New Fallout.

I don't have anything against consoles, but the term "consolized" is valid. Fallout has gone from a top-down, isometric, deep cRPG to New Vegas which was a great FPS/RPG and now it's just a dumbed down, consolized crafting FPS with no RPG whatsoever.

It's the definition of "consolizing" a game. Bethesda is a console developer first and foremost now.

The point is, the little workshop packs are for console users. Those packs aren't meant for you, just as most of the game isn't meant for you. It is intended for the casual console users who eat that shit up with out taking a second glance at it. They aren't out of touch with their users, I would say they are more intune with them then they have ever been, well besides PC users and hardcore fans of course.

And now they have mods on consoles. Which means they can't sell this kind of DLCs for long, after a few more Bethesda games with support for console mods, even the console players will be used to have free "stuff packs" from mods.
Now if Bethesda could make money from actual mods other people make....... :wiggle:

Console users will continue to buy these packs despite mods becoming available to them. There will always be the thought that official content is better then mods/unofficial content and they will chose the official over anything else. Besides not all the cool shit on the nexus will go to bethesda.shit because mod authors don't want to go there as you very well know.

Paid modding on the other hand could bring those authors over and Bethesda would then stop making stupid ass stuff packs because they would make bank on those mods that will go for 5 to 10 bucks.

I wonder if Bethesda will flip their shit when people make mods that do the same thing as their DLCs (I mean, people did, already) and upload it to bethnet.
But yeah, I think this is just a warm-up phase for another go at paid mods.

Oh, we all know that they are going to bring back paid mods. Instead of paying for mods up front I bet that they are going to have subscription fees in order to use and upload mods from Bethesda.aids(That's never going to get old:lol:).

My guess is that they'll start with "premium" mods that you pay for while the bulk of the mods stay free.

Yeah, sounds about right. I expect to see something like that really soon.
Probably will happen with Skyrim Remastered. I am sure they are only remastering that game because it is the Bethesda game that was more modded in all history of Bethesda and they want to have it for when they make paid mods.

A lot of steam users are starting to complain about not getting their moneys worth for season pass. It's obvious just by comparing it to FO3 and NV DLCs, that Fallout 4 'DLCs' look like overpriced rubbish. The whole concept of season pass was stupid to begin with.

I do sincerely hope that some unintentional blowback that comes from all of this is that Bethesda starts to step up their game thanks to the channel of friendly competition they've opened up for themselves.

Too late for Fo4, Skyrim Remastered, but maybe Elder Scrolls 6 ...

I'm not sure we've reached "Peak Dumbed Down" yet. I think enough people are gobbling up Fallout 4's paid mod DLC that Bethesda is going to go even deeper with this stuff.

You're going to start out Elder Scrolls 6 as the Emperor of the entire Elder Scrolls universe and some random character is going to come up to you, call you High General Emperor Urinal Septum and give you infinite dungeon crawls.

The game will cost $100 and will have $30 of Horse armor Workshop DLC.

Well said man, cheers!

I meant what happens if they sketch up the workshop model again for Skyrim 6 but then the second they open bethesda.net up an open sourced, bug free, swiss army knife of a workshop mod that adds and does everything possible with that concept gets ported over and gets 1 mil downloads in an hour.

I mean, they'd have to throw their hands up and go "well, f&*k!" at that point, right?

Honestly I can understand why they put up this crap. Majority of their current fanbase loves minecraft so they can play it even in Fallout 4, then they leave minecraft for good, then Bethesda opens up their site and start to sell mods.

This way they get free money from mods and gain trust as the most friendly company ever.

I am probably crazy since I came up with such theory, but it makes sense to people who only look at numbers and money gained.

Outside of that this DLC is just a cash grab like WW.

It's just more evidence that the users, as far as Bethesda is concerned, are the console users who will pay $5 or $10 for these shit workshop packs which do little more than unlock assets already in the vanilla game files, and maybe throw in a couple of Radiant quest givers so they can brag about the "new adventures!" they're giving the whales, errrm, customers.

The PC players are little more than unpaid content providers in this scheme.
