Which games do you think could be made into good movies?

The thing about making movies from games is that you probably dumb down the game, as you can't really get more stupid than most movies that are based on games.

And that's the thing- the potential for interesting entertainment through computer games (cheaper by far when you figure that you can get 30 hours of entertainment from one game that cost $30) could far outweigh that of movies.

Hey what about Larry?
But he should be just like Rambo there - you know, that Sex & Violence (TM) attracts most viewers...

What ABOUT Larry?
Larry died after Leisure Suit Larry 7 when Al Lowe got "not fired" and the company turned LSL 8 (the supposed space title in 3D) into a porn game for bed wetters.

In Al Lowe's games the sexuality at least stayed somewhat discreet and Larry actually had character.

But of course porn ladden mini games about a teenager the chicks dig sells better than a point-n-click adventure about a charismatic looser. Talk about lowest common denominator.

Althought i haven't finished the game yet, Anachronox looks promsing, for the setting if nothing else. I love the art style/environment.

The Curse of Monkey Island would make a great comedy. I wonder who would play Guybrush? I can't think of anyone who could really pull it off.

This is all assuming it was in the hands of a competent writer/producer.

Fat chance.

If you think about it, there are lots of games that would make good movies. It would just take someone who was interested in actually making the movie true to the game, which is unlikely to happen as most hollywood producers/directors/studios just want to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Whatever makes the most money.

Larry7 was ... godly but the movie would probably end up being some 2 dime porn flick. In the game most of the humour derived from the narrator's witt and sarcasm and I don't see how that could be integrated in a movie.
Anyway what makes a great game or a great movie, or at least in part, is a damn good storyline. For that you need good script writers and frankly they don't make them as they used to
About Dune... those books are much too vast to be comprised in a movie. And the distil suit in the Lynch movie, the first one, it sucked! For the love of God that thing looked more like a surfing outfit than a suit that would reduce the loss of moisture of the body. Just pathetic.
Besides a game is much more fun than a movie, same thing for a book. I'd rather spend two hours of my life reading a good book or playing a good game than watching a luke warm movie.

I can tell you which games could NOT been made into good movies...
UT 2k4 (although I like it).
"Tony Hawk's" series.

What about UFO: Aftermath? It's cool...
