Mod Advice

Hi, I have only just discovered all the mods for fallout 2 just recently and being a fan of the series am looking forward to breathing new life back into my game I have tried the wasteland mod and found for myself it was too radically different and now have just tried out the new vision mod which i also found was ok but random encounters were too hard to find( i could explore most of the map without having to stop to fight at all)Am downloading the mega mod zip right now and want to know what you guys think is a good mod to run.also do you guys put all the extra small mods e.g weapons and stuff on as well. One last thing ,i seen a mod that said it had the 1.05 patch on it, where can i find out what that patch does.
Thank you all your help will be greatly appreciated

I haven't delved into these mods myself, but I can answer a few questions.

The "1.05 patch" refers to a mod done by Celestial that aims to not only fix the countless bugs in Fallout 2, but also adds a few new things in an attempt to balance things out in the game, like ammo, characters and...stuff.

Unfortunately, while it brings many good things, it also brings several bad things with it. The ammo, for example, is now horribly unbalanced.

Meanwhile, Killap is working as we speak on a Final Patch that aims to fix all the bugs in the game; to allow you to play the game as it was meant to the played. No small feat that. The Megamod that you mention includes some of Killap's work, but not all of it.

Otherwise, I would just recommend you to try what you think you'll like.

Best mods for 1st time F2 playthrough?

What are the 'gotta have' mods for enjoying playthrough of Fallout 2? I mean something that is worth it to play on your FIRST time through the game... things that fix bugs in a way that, say, the official patch doesnt do... adding simple but useful things? Completing features that didn't make it into the final game?

I have already added the 1.02 US patch and the 1.051 US Fanmade patch... but there seem to be a few "compilation of fallout 2 mods" in this forum:

http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=category&cat_id=15

What is compatible with the two patches I installed? What is worth it to download for the basic game? I would like something that doesnt disrupt gameplay in odd ways, if possible... any suggestions?

Well, if you say this is your first time through Fallout 2, then I highly suggest you playing the original game without any mods. Just get a feel for the game before you start something different. As for bug fixes, I highly suggest using my patch rather than the 1.051 patch. It fixes hundreds more bugs not in the official patch or the 1.051 patch as well as add in a few minor things left out of the game. You can find this under the downloads section of NMA. Be sure to read this one link to grab a much needed fix for my patch.

The best Mod

Hi,
First, I am a russian, who lives in germany and speaks english :D so please forgive my bad english skill but i try my best, i hope you all will understand me. I falled in love with this site since i have seen it in the first moment. The community is in contrast to german fallout-sites very huge. :)
So here is my liltle probleme:
I played Fallout many times and now i want to try a mod. And i have some questions.
1. I have a german Fo version. Will they be problems with the compatibility ? Do I have to buy an US version?
2. I played also Jagged Alliance 2 Mods and modded a litle bit by myself, so i know that it is very difficult to fix bugs. Its very angry if you play 50 houers and more and than... crash. But whom do i tell this :D Is there a mod, which is nearly bug free?
3. I search for a mod, which changes as much details as possible. I think the MIB88 is one of the biggest, right? And aren't the biggest mods not also the one with most bugs?

Which mod would you all suggest me?

I suggest you F2BSM ofcourse ;)
If you say "details" i understand "add new things to game"

My mod change many things:
-all Arryo village is changed
-Temple location and quest here is brand new
(village nad temple are connected to one location now)
-new locations: abandoned city and vault 5 (here two new quests)
-new skill that you can learn and use it during game
-maaanyy new items (they are mostly usefull like new tools)
-new car and money graphic

This mod is not finished yet but playable (it will grown larger)

Thx for your answers
I tested some mods but i saw only errors and had problems with my german version. The blood patch and the 1.02US Patch didn't work, too. :(

I believe that FIFE critter patch accompanied with the latest US patch will help you. And also your mods should be installed properly. Error messages usually indicate that some actions were not taken. Some mods for example require patch000.dat to be erased manually before installation.

Merged with a mod recommendation thread and pruned Xavierblazer's dumb reply.

FO2: Installing unofficial patches together

I'm starting a new game and (as I've never tried any of the community made mods/patches before) I decided to install those unofficial patches everybody keep talking about. However, I don't know which ones to install.

I downloaded Unofficial Patch 1.501 beta and Killap's Unofficial FO2 patch (release A and B both). As it seems as these patches change different things, can I use them together ? Are they compatible ? Overall, what is the best combination of bugfixing patches (and some neat additions like that your partymembers change visually according to what armor do they wear) currently ?

Killap is the best one...Seraph's out dated.
Try some mods too...like infinite party member...
Seraph's patch make your party members change their armors, but it gets too annoying several guys just like you following around...
