so, tell me: which mods do i need for the most polished, unbugged and best falloutexperience of my life?

For Fallout 1:the unofficial 1.3 patch will give you the most stable run can't say about mods.

For fallout2: killap's patch gives the most stable original run standalone.
MIB88's MegaMod is imho the best mod for those who've played the game numerous times, and ongoing changes to include killap's patch is improving stability, otherwise try BSM or Surviver...horses for courses.

Fallout1: install 1.3 patch if you want just bugfixes. If you want to see first unstable and bugged :) Fallout1 mod - install 1.2.5 Update Mod. It worths installation and play. But if you don't want bugs in the game - wait untill we rebuild mod for 1.3 patch and fix bugs.

The best patch there is?

I use 1.05 everytime, when i start again going through the wasteland. I haven't encountered any bugs with it ever and everything has been smooth. But after reading these forums i've seen some people complaining about game crashes with dunton brothers and some other places. Also my bro has had a weird item bug with it.

So i'm asking from experienced people, who have tried many patches, is there a one, which is simply the best. And by best i mean: the most bug free and fixes like everything that has been giving a headache to players.

The 1.05 which i have been using has been great, but when there is a potential crashing/bug things included, i'm hoping to get the most stable patch.

Killap's patch is the most stable one and fixes the most bugs. It can be found in two varieties here.

Well, i installed the B one, because i have 1.02 UK version. It works excellent, but there are no children. Do i must install the children patch separately then? Or should i install the killap's patch A? Does it include the children?

I hate playing without children. Shooting em up is... fun.

Just install this patch:

More information and how to apply it:

I don't understand. Do i have to copy to fallout2 folder some file after the patch? Didn't get children working with only patch.

The stickied threads is named "All the stuff about unofficial patches goes here" for a reason.

Locked.

Freshly Installed Fallout 2. What next?

Hey everyone! I've had a lot of computer problems the past few years, but I've gotten a new laptop and I just installed Fallout 2 on it. I've downloaded patches and mods before, tried to keep up with what NMA has posted about, but between my spurts of interest in playing and frequent computer troubles resulting in reinstallations, I've never been sure if I was really doing it right.

So I'm looking for help on where I should go from here. I don't want to browse through the Files section just downloading and installing whatever looks cool hodge-podge because that sounds like a recipe for frequent bugs and crashes. So are there any kind souls here who would be willing to list out for me what I should download and install, in the order I should download and install it in? If it's on-site I'm certain I can find it with some searching, but if it's off-site, would you mind providing a link?

Some brief info about me and my computer:
-I've played Fallout 2 all the way through a couple of times now.
-I'm most interested in checking out new locations, but I've never been able to get a new location mod to work.
-I'm running Windows XP, I did the HUGE Installation.
-I only speak English, and un poco Espanol.
-I'm no good at programming, and anything that requires registry edits is probably beyond me.

Thanks in advance, I can't wait to see what you guys recommend!

If you're going to play with various mods, just make sure you make a backup copy of your DATA folder and patch000.dat file each time.

Mixing mods does not always work like you'd like it to, you should read the forum to see what specific mods authors write about that.

If you're planning a whole game of Fallout 2 without much surprises, I recommend you boost your NPC's with the B-Team mod to make them change appearance and use weapons they've never used before.

Also, the unofficial Killap's patch is recommended for optimum gameplay.

MIB88 Megamod is a nice compilation of various selected mods.

Thanks Silencer! Any other takers? I'm willing to look at steps toward mod-builds that might be aimed at specific types of game-play too. After playing Fallout 2 through so many times, I'm willing to try new things!

Silencer, the unofficial Killap's patch you mentioned, what version is it? And do I need to install any other patches before I install that one?

So far, the Megamod seems to be the way to go. You should read and re-read the read-me files before installing. Most Modders will in tell you what version of the game you need before installing the mod. You should google Fallout mods, you get a nice list of websites to peruse.

As for non-modded gameplay, Killap's patch is the way to go.

I also heartily endorse the MegaMod, as there's plenty to provide a fresh experience, and the majority of the total-gameplay-overhaul mods lack the polish required for extended use. There really is a huge number of mods included - enough to breathe a lot of new life into F2.

However, depending on how slowly you play the game, it *might* be advisible to wait until the next MegaMod patch, depending on how soon that's coming out - every update renders savegames unusable. A shame, but it's still a truly spectacular mod.

FALLOUT 2 supreme patch combination.

Hopefully this will be a simple question.

For Fallout 2, the US version with children and all, the nice plain normal version, What are the best patches to download from NMA to ensure a good amount of game stability??

Cheers people.

AFAIK the best one is Killap's patch: it fixes the original game (some 200 fixes more than official 1.2 one) and does not add stuff/alters gameplay.

Best (classic, must have) fallout mods?

What are the widely considered best, and canonical fallout 2 mods? Im looking to add more to the game the 2nd time through. I also want to say that the game started to deteriote in the late game... Broken Hills and even more so San Francisco seemed hastily done, without the charm of the previous zones.

The ones that force you to post *in the right bloody forum*!

Also, Killap's patch fixes bugs and nothing else, that seems to be the best one so far.
