Who do you think is the ultimate rock/metal band?

I hate the Beatles.

...And, more or less, I have to agree with Korlath. These points are especially true in bands like Korn, and Staind (shudders). Korn's old stuff is good...great energy, highly original, and emotion charged, and indeed was drawn upon the troubles of Jonathan Davis, which were many. The thing is, after four albums, it's not genuine anymore. I mean, how long can you sing about the same stuff? Every song is pretty much the same now, and it's a shame since they are all so talented.

Slipknot is original, but not in the ways Chaindogg illustrated. Slipknot is original because they have their own sound, and combine all different types of music, from rap to hardcore, and they stick with original and intelligent lyrics (I don't think Chaindogg posted a very meaningful verse, however.)

Now, the Deftones, on the other hand, are so original that every band around today is merely an imitation. The biggest reason that they shine over all the other "nu-metal" (ugh...I hate that word) bands, is because they know how to play their instruments, they don't sound like anyone else, and they don't WHINE and COMPLAIN about ANYTHING.

But, alas. We are all entitled to our own opinions. That's what makes this place, and the rest of the world, so great..

Hey, hey, hey, watch it, buster! The Beatles are still the coolest band in the world! When those dorks from The Deftones and Korn and Metallica and bla bla bla are dead and buried and forgotten, everyone will still know The Beatles and their songs.

'Helter Skelter' (on The White Album) is - without a doubt - the best rock song in the history of mankind.

Led Zeppelin is cool too, though. Although I hate 'Stairway to Heaven', that's a song for spaced out hippies and scout leaders.

Anyway: anyone like Radiohead? Radiohead is the second best thing after The Beatles.

W00t, my first post
Anyway, my favourite rock/metal bands include Iron Maiden, KISS, Van Halen, Motorhead, Slayer, Manowar...and a couple of others.

I also believe that bands like Slipknot (and other metal-wannabes) more like ruined the world of Metal, rather than revolutionised it :D

Metal: Machine Head
Heavy Metal: Hatebreed, 2nd : slipknot
Death Metal: Marduk

Hatebreed is one kick ass Heavy Metal band. And they are not all just obscenities.

Woohoo! A fellow Manowar fan.

Smar, you say they're not all obscenities... I'd love to hear your arguments as to why you think bands like Slipknot are anything more than the spooky version of Britney Spears.

Beatles

The Beatles are great! Talk about classic!

Then you got the Rolling Stones. Say what you will, they are still great. Street Fighting Man still kicks ass. Ok, so they are old enough to be grandparents.

Ramones! Sex Pistols! Led Zep! The Doors, the Clash, Rage against the Machine, Pearl Jam.... Classics.

What about Skank from Brazil?

Buffett for the parrot heads!

For AC/DC fans- anyone know the comic who does AC/DC doing "The Hookey Pookey" (You know, "You put your right foot in and your left foot out. You do the hookey pookey and you shake it all about).

Gosh I feel old.

At last: someone agrees with me. And you're right about The Doors too, of course. I saw the motion picture again last night. Man, I must have seen that movie like a hundred times when I was still a teenager.

Ah... nostalgia...

The comic who did AC/DC Hokey Pokey was Jim Bruer. Also MTV showed a special ICON show focusing on Metallica where Bruer did Metallica: If your happy and you know it, clap your hands.

I don't like the Beatles.

I love the Stones. I have "the central three albums" (as we refer to them); "Exile on Main Street", "Sticky Fingers" and "Beggar's Banquet". Love those, and I have a stack of live CDs and albums as well. I like Neil Young better, though, on some levels.

I'm seeing the Stones live this August. Damn, those guys ask a lot for a ticket.

Hatebreed kicks mucho ass live.

My buddy from the band "Evergreen Terrace" slipped a disc in a circle pit at one of their concerts the other night.
