Why is a battle going on in the DC ruins?

It's implied they are looking for FEV (no green stuff here...) so big important looking buildings to borderline retarded super mutants looks like a place you could find important stuff.

As for the Talon company I believe you can find a note saying they are being paid by an anonymous customer to clear the capital building out. Though Bethesda never goes into who's paying the Talon company to do any of things they are doing. Or the fact that the Capital Wasteland is practically devoid of any civilization, and the only people who are rich in the game are rich for no reason.

This pissed me off when i first played the game years ago as a good guy . I felt the game was pulling a scam on me , starting a story with no desire to complete it just to mess with the player .

I saved megaton and killed mr.badguy there , and soon after hitmen came after me carrying a note with my name . I was kind of thrilled . I thought it was a consequence for my actions , that i ruined the plan of some evil faction who wanted to nuke megaton for some good reason , possibly connected to the enclave which was then on the radio.
Then came the regular attacks by Talon Company , who said that they were payed by someone to kill me for being too nice . I thought it was a metaphor at the time , i didn't think the game was just that stupid! I remember wondering who is paying them and travelling the wasteland looking for bits and pieces to find out .
Afterwards , when i discovered tempenny tower , dukov , the talon company headquarters and the backstory of "you gotta shoot them in the head " quest , i thought i was discovering parts of that very evil faction , and wondered what their plans where and what they were paying talon company ( a whole army of them ) to do .
Even when i finished the game , i couldn't bring myself to admit that it was all just fucking random , so i assumed that as an evil character you would able to work for tempenny after blowing up megaton ( who, by the way, i assumed had a reason for wanting to blow up a whole city ), that you'd find out his plans and that the talon company mercs would be friendly then .
But no , the talon company is just like the supermutants , the enclave , the raiders, the molerats and everything else in this game , spawning in random places and killing stuff for no apparent reason .

Eh, it's not quite the problem people think it is with the existence of the Pitt DLC. Since there's a trade up there for ammunition, there's plenty of outside agents who could potentially want the Capital Wasteland. Reilly's Rangers works for the Enclave and Paradise Falls is employed by Ashur.

However, it seems the guy in the Junkyard is the guy who bought a contract on you. He's the one who pays for "good" karma NPCs so apparently he's trying to genocide the region.

Yes, the "we hunt you down because you've been too nice!" idea was cringy as hell. It's actually the moment I felt like I was too old for the game, and yet, seconds after : eyes popping out of skulls, brain scattered on the floor, and psycho in the loot of my foes. Weird mix of tones, really. At least, Fallout 4 didn't play the "you're so nice, a random stranger paid to have you killed" card (as if that was an achievement. Not playing that card should be common sense). At least, not that I remember.

As for the reason why Super Mutants fight for DC, it's... well, a bit hard to tell. Fight off the invadors, aka the brotherhood of steel, maybe? The kidnapping thing certainly doesn't hold up, considering that DC is... well, a radioactive warzone occupied by hostiles since the bombs fell, so... not exactly the place where you'd look for people to kidnap, if that's your thing.

I still don't understand two things about the super mutants in DC:
-Why was there FEV in a vault, near the nation's capital? Aka, a primary target in case of nuclear war? Putting the FEV far away from war targets and the local population was the reason why it was moved to Mariposa, and it made sense. Here, I'm not sure what was the plan.
-Apparently, the Super Mutants have been in DC for two entire centuries. That's... a very, very long time. How come they didn't build anything for all this time? It's not like they met hostile forces for 150 years or so. I'm having trouble understanding how they never managed to take over the surrounding lands too. That would have been actually interesting, if the lone wanderer learned that the Super Mutants actually HAD full control over the entire land, and recently lost it because of the BoS' assaults. People would speak about how life was, under mutant's rule. How they forced families to give up their first born, but protected them afterwards etc. How the isolationism of vault 101 actually made sense too, in that context.

What pisses me off is how the Super Mutants are all crazy retarded in F3. Did they not play Fallout/Fallout 2?

These aren't the Masters Super-mutants. They're more random mutants like Harold.

The rest of the world is a radioactive hellhole too and the Super Mutants live there. In fact, Moriarty says they've done a better job of rebuilding DC than they have in England.

They have a pretty awesome life as is, being the other functional Vault.

The rest of the world is a radioactive hellhole too
(Apart from the NCR, The Mojave, Legion Territory, Zion, And every other location pre-bethesda)

Well that's a bunch of bullshit. Fallout was never supposed to be "The Entire world is shit and un-rebuilt forever)

You act like they're the same universe, which is not the case any more than Disney's Star Wars is Lucasfilms.

Also, the Mojave may not be a radioactive hellhole but Mister House hasn't rebuild anything yet so it's all misery and death as well.

Caesar's Legion is also a place which rebuilds from misery and death in VERY RECENT years.

Almost like you might have a motive to want to rebuild it. Like you might have to actually MATTER to the world. Which is the POINT of the game.

You can save the Capital Wasteland, which requires it to actually be in danger.

Like the rest of the world.

They are in the same series, and Bethesda keeps trying to ram down our throat's that they are somehow in the same universe.
but Mister House hasn't rebuild anything yet
There's several, fairly prosperous independent towns all across the Mojave(Goodsprings, Novac, Jacobstown, Nipton(Formerly), Primm, ect.)

Also, lets not forget that New Vegas is also a fairly prosperous city.
Caesar's Legion is also a place which rebuilds from misery and death in VERY RECENT years.
Lots of tribals and raiders =/= radioactive hellhole.

There's also a number of settlements across the Capital Wasteland.

Big Town, Rivet City. Megaton, Girdershade, and Arefu.

Andale shouldn't count but it does as does Evergreen Mills.

If in 200 years the Capital Wasteland hasn't changed at all, why should anyone care to save it?

EDIT: Seriously you added Girdershade and Arefu? They aren't anything more than shacks in the middle of nowhere.

If in 200 years the Capital Wasteland hasn't changed at all, why should anyone care to save it?

Because I'm not an Objectivist who believes people are worth saving only if they can pick themselves up by their bootstraps? People are crappy, ignorant, and weak--which is why you should try harder to be good.

I mean I always saw DC as having a potentially to grow an expand. With places like grayditch becoming a developing settlement and I say this because it would be a stop outside DC so cravans from rivet city could travel from there to megaton and would of been a good stop. But yeah actual DC is fudge really and does't make too much sence. There is plently of settlement just outside of DC like megaton tennypenny canterburry commons etc. Bascily all of the settlement are outside of the city area of DC itself

If they don't even bother to try picking themselves up they aren't worth saving.

Which is pretty much the attitude I give to Evil Karma. :)

As the Savior of the Wastelands, it is my job to personally correct all of their problems from the Enclave to smaller issues like the Republic of Dave.

That's what Kings are for.

Because really, the idea that normal people can do anything is offensive. They're doomed to rot in the grime and radioactivity until a superior pure-blooded non-mutated Vault human leads them from their savagery.

*adjusts Enclave hat*

Let me put it another way. Say a whole bunch of us on a plane crash in the jungle far far away from any civilization. Some of us would go looking for food and others would build some shelter. Now just imagine if instead of doing that we all just sat there going "Someone will rescue us! Lets do nothing at all!"

If they don't even bother to try picking themselves up they aren't worth saving.
Eh, that's a dangerous line of reasoning if you ask me.

The way I see it, the needs of each person is important, regardless of there past actions, and if you just left people to die in there own graves you'd just be adding to the suffering in the world.

That's not Enclave reasoning at all.

Enclave reasoning goes a little more like this:
*Cough*Cough*
"Pure humanity is at risk of extinction!, We must preserve our species at all cost, and the only way to do that is by slaughtering absolutely everyone who isn't us! We're totally not bigots though, we just want to preserve our shitty definition of humanity. SHUT UP, WE'RE NOT BIGOTS, WE'RE RATIONAL!"

I'm talking about the entire Capital Wasteland as a whole, if that makes sense.
