Why do Bethesda Fallouts fans feel the need to disregard the negative opinions a lot of people have for the Bethesda Fallouts with crap like "you just hate Bethesda" or "you don't like them because they're different? That's the question i make in return.

The Bethesda Fallout fans make themselves to be saints when in many ways they are far worse than the detractors of the games they like.

I'm apart of r/Fallout but I've only been lurking to see the nonsense. Whenever I post an opinion, no matter how kind I am, I get downvoted because I don't like Bethesda. No matter how well crafted my post, someone always says I'm being immature or I'm toxic or something.

What's even worse is that these people take criticism of the games as an attack on them, which is fucking stupid. Me personally when i'm shitting on something, i'm doing towards the thing itself and whoever made it, and not anyone else.

What's funny is that they claim Bethesda doesn't care about haters because they make millions from the games they make (which is true), and yet these fans feel the need to defend the multibillionaire company like they are doing them a favor.

The first edit in this post actually kinda reflects a pet peeve of mine, which is when people make a controversial statement, but they'll disguise that statement as though it's neutral and an appeal to moderation, and therefore anyone who disagrees with them is only proving their point.

You see this a lot in Fallout discussion, where people will say stuff like "Why can't we just love all the Fallout games and stop complaining about them?" and they'll frame the love of all the Fallout games as default. Therefore no matter how politely you disagree, you'll inevitably have to say "Well actually some Fallout games it makes sense to be negative towards", and since they framed their stance as an anti-negativity one, and assumes that stance to be the default correct one, they'll just turn around and say you're proving their point.

I've heard the term "Crybullying" used before, where someone makes a deliberately provocative statement, and then acts like any response they get is wrong, but I find that this sort of tactic tends to often be combined with a "My stance is the default one", often framing their opinion as sensible, moderate, anti-negativity, anti-divisiveness, ect., and therefore their stance can't possibly be a controversial statement where disagreement is possible, no it's just a call for everyone to get along, and if you disagree with a call for everyone to get along, you are proving all the more why it's necessary.

I also have a disdain for this kind of people, thinking they are somehow above both sides when they try to paint themselves as clear-headed and unbiased. It also tries to make it seem both sides are being too biased and irrational, like a bunch of grouchy manchildren.

It's this disgusting holier-than-thou attitude that does nothing but make the person doing it look like a pretentitious prick.

Perhaps Todd will finally recognize their love and return it to them.

    * news flash * He doesn't give a fuck.

You should talk to some of the Metroid fans on the Gamefaq forums, most likely a cesspool in some people's eyes.
Even if you have been a fan of the franchise since the start, if you have any criticism on Metroid Dread, the second coming...

But god yes do I hate these types.
"How can you call yourself a Fallout fan or a gamer if you are not open for change and progress?"

It is so sad that your greatness has not been acknowledged yet and they have yet to build a statue for you.

Speaking from personal experience, it can be exhausting and frustrating for a fan when part of the fandom will relentlessly bash certain Fallout games at every opportunity. I used to not understand why they would do it, and I'd wonder why all Fallout fans couldn't just get along and stop with the negativity.

Then I saw Disney buy out Star Wars... saw what they did to a franchise that I love, and everything changed. Now I have some empathy for this type of Fallout fan. I can understand the platform they're arguing from and where their intense hatred comes from.

So, there are people who can happily enjoy the entire Fallout series, especially if they're new to the party or if they played one of Bethesda's games first.

But the old guard - the legendary zealots that saw this story unfold from the beginning, whose righteous anger and devotion to the Wasteland is eternal - will never stop fighting against blasphemy and heretics.

Fallout was always bad. It’s just much worse now. I will now go spend 2 hours modding New Vegas and then play it for 20 minutes.

Breaks are important. I have made multiple playthroughs of NV separated by months at a time. Seems to work for me.

I recommend finding some other oldie games from the era to play like the original COD, COD 2, and WAW which actually have some interesting campaigns. WAW being for instance the best Call of Duty ever made; a far cry from the Hollywood dramas we get from the franchise today.

Play some Duke Nukem or old Doom wads. Explore the Golden Age of DOS games, some of which were pretty good.

Or try some strategy games like HOI or Company of Heroes. I would highly recommend playing Company of Heroes just for the campaigns it has.
Unfortunately, the Golden Age of Gaming, which spanned from 1993 to 2013 or so, has long since ended. Unless it is from small time developers who have the spirit still, AAA releases will almost certainly be mediocre or subpar.

This can extend to every corner of the entertainment industry, its just one giant shitfest now. Especially music. So much trash made nowadays.

The faster we come to terms with it the better.

What golden age? Gaming even on its best days still produced a lot of shit. The timeframe you mentioned produced crap like Sonic 06, Fallout 3, Superman 64 and many other incredibly bad games. Not to mention the slew of brown FPS games that were made in the PS3/360 era. Those aren't exclusive to now.

Not to mention you are leaving out many great games produced in the NES era like the first three Super Mario Bros game, the first two Legend of Zelda games, the Castlevania games (well, the first and third anyway), the Ninja Gaiden trilogy and the Contra games. And also saying it starts from 1993 leaves out games like Super Mario World and fucking A Link to the Past which came out in 1990 and 1991 respectively.

I never said they all were amazing titles. I was merely referring to the fact that so many advances and standards were set during this time. Doom set standards for FPS, Fallout set standards for RPG, Quake and CS set standards for multiplayer FPS, Bethesda titles set standards for Open World type games despite quality issues.

Despite being a bad game, not acknowledging Fallout 3's impact on the AAA scene would be fallacious.

Bad standard where empty open worlds are somehow are a good thing. Morrowind being the sole exception.

Negative impact should never be acknowledged.

Also, many of the games i mentioned in the NES era and early SNES era set the standard for various things as well.

Like I said, I never said they were good games and that Open World games are automatically good either. For better or for worse, they greatly influenced the gaming sphere.

Do not pull stuff out of words I did not say. I was aiming for neutrality.

And my point is that some of the standards setup being your so called golden age of gaming were bad. How can something be a golden age of anything if plenty of what it standardized just produced mediocrity down the line, far earlier than the year where it seemingly ends?

If you were, i fail to understand why you mentioned a golden age of gaming when you were going for neutrality. Golden ages are always periods of great progress with tons of great standards moving humanity forward. Yes, the timeframe you mentioned did set a plenty of good standards, but also a lot of crap. Crap that is still being followed upon to this day. The current state of gaming didn't become like it is now in a single day, plenty of bad practices from two decades are still being used to this day (releasing games bugged up the ass for one).

I'm not here to argue for the sake of it, but i fail to see what was so great about that timeframe. Yes, it has a lot of great games, but also a lot of garbage. It's not really any different from today. And also i find it unfair to just dismiss the current era of gaming when great AAA games like Dragon Quest 11 are made just because some companies produce insidious games that only exist to empty your wallet. Yes, a lot of franchises like Fallout and Elder Scrolls went to shit, but that happened well over a decade ago and not now.

The way i see it, every era of gaming is pretty much the same. The great games are actually the minority and everything else is just games made for quick money (remember the insane amount of shovelware on the Wii?). Because making good games takes tons of effort and money.

Maybe the golden age is like subjective to the person or something since I am pretty sure my younger brother thinks he is living in the golden age of gaming right now. Stop being such a pedantic weirdo. I finally get what Tagaziel was talking about. This type of attitude is why people don't post here. Jump down everyone's throat about your opinion on what games should be and they simply must be turn based isometric and made by specific people or waaaaaaaaa. I used to be like that. I guess I got old.

Yes, but i'm allowed to disagree and discuss about it if i don't agree with the logic for that mentality.

No one here said that and that literally has fuck all what was being talked about. And even if it did, people have every right to hold that opinion if they believe so.

And the sheer fucking irony of saying this after you shat on a bunch of newcomers when they claimed to not like the non-Bethesda Fallouts (remember the dude last year shitting on New Vegas and you even changed his profile to say he's a braindead troll?). Don't be an hypocrite.

What Tagz realized is that he can suck Bethesda's dick constantly and maybe they will hire him. Also going from shitting on fans of the Bethesda Fallouts to shitting on the detractors of the Bethesda Fallouts isn't any better.

I mean, if you disagree with Shookius about what the golden age was then fair enough. This is just a pretty confrontational way to do it. ‘93 to ‘13 is pretty wide range for gaming. If anything how was it not a golden age? What would be a golden age if not that? There being bad games or trends doesn’t really disprove it. Just shows you think something else than they do.

Not every opinion needs to be disproved or whatever.

How the fuck would you know what the golden age is? Did you watch a videogame podcast for them to tell you that it was?

It was the exact same as it is now except FASTER. A bunch of shit, some good stuff, a rare gem.

I’d know what it is by experiencing it and forming an opinion on it. It’s like some of you try to come to some objective truth regarding topics that are subjective.

    Like….why?
