First Impression of Fallout 4

Well, I've put a good 10 hours in since I snagged it yesterday and it's...decent. Far from perfect, but it's a fun time waster. I do like the settelment building and crafting, even if they are a bit boring in the case of the settlement building. As others have mentioned, the sheer amount of "kill random mooks" quests are pretty nuts. The writing for the most part is as usual, pretty weak. Also, Power Armor is everywhere in this game. I already have 3 suits of t-45. Speaking of PA, remember the T-60? Well turns out that it's the TRUE last model of power armor cause reasons.

It was fun for a while then just became repetitive and boring.

Call me crazy, but last night I saw a Flying Saucer fly over my settlement and crash somewhere far in the distance. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to find the "landing site".
Anyone had something similar? I was in The Sanctuary hill at the time and it went somewhere south. I used tcl to find it, but couldn't, seems like it went farther than I though.

I actually found a quest that was half-decent and didn't need me to kill anyone (well, unless you fail charisma checks, as I did).
The questline in Covenant seemed interesting, and although the execution was rather dull (check every house in Covenant until you find the computer password and boom you're done) it was at least a nice try.

That's... not... fun...

Why does Bethesda still treat its own audience like a bunch of impatient, mouth frothing idiots? I am probably the last person that would crow on about "steamlining" or "consolifying something" but seriously?

They got rid of repair because... it was too complicated?
They also got rid of specific limb healing (now a single stimpak heals everything) because.... it was again, too complicated?
What happened to some kind of balance? 1,5 hour in the game and I've already found 2 Power Armors, 3 Fusion Cores, 2 Fatmans and about 4 Mini-nukes. Even in Fallout 3 you still had to somewhat "earn" the Power Armor, along with its training. Any sense of "accomplishment" is now gone.

Don't give me that shit about it being "less annoying" now. For repair and healing, it wasn't any huge micro-management before unless you had an attention span and patience of a dead carp, and it was still somewhat limited by your skill (or the one who was doing it for you) so it was kinda balanced out.

Fuck, I am really trying to like this game. I really do.. but it feels like I am playing a RAGE/Borderlands wannabe clone instead of a post-apocalyptic game that wants to stand on its own.

Well... reparing was stupid but healing was alright.

It was a nice effort. You actually had to look around (and in the beginning I thought it was more complicated because it was night and all the houses were locked down and I couldn't pick the locks) and talk to people. However, the execution was dumb as fuck.
So basically
you have to prove that a caravan stopped at Covenant. You can check the caravan and you'll find a lemonade that's clearly from the Mr. Handy in Covenant, you'll find a bedroll in Covenant that's likely to belong to a trader, you find a list of people who did the SAFE test (that shows the caravan) and you can talk to people... But none of this is enough, apparently, you can't even mention that to Honest Dan. You HAVE to get into the computer terminal (just steal the password from a house during the day) and look at a log there. Then there are actually a few branches in the quest.
It's pretty stupid, but still better than "Kill x at y". Maybe the rest of the quests are just so dull that this one stood out as a good example...

Well, I am a guy who really enjoys in-depth mechanics, no matter how small they are. It kinda brings another factor to the game that you need to be aware of and (at least for me) helps with immersion. I for example love the OFP and ArmA series and those games are full of those.

For me getting rid of things such as these just screams "our players are too retarded. we better take it out so they can concentrate more on the new Halo-improved pew pew!", not convenience.

Also, is it true that Radion Sickness is now gone as well???

And the guy who came up with the brilliant design choice of having weapons dissapear upon holstering should be kicked in the ballsack by heavy, steel toed boots.

I really pity the new FWE/Project Nevada that will most likely come out. They now have even less to work with just to fix/improve this castrated corpse of a "gameplay".

On the other hand:

- They did improve the gunplay.

- Power armor gameplay looks and sounds rather satisfying as well. I just wish it would be more rare, because this way the "wow, how cool!" factor fizzles very quickly.

- The dressup with armor layers is kinda fun. Too bad only like 5 clothes actually fit underneath that. The rest will either clip or not work alltogether.

- Companions no longer seem to be cannon fodders from Fallout 3 and have a bit of personality or interaction in them ala New Vegas. Apparently, they can even interject during quests and dialogues but can't confirm.

- I can see what they were doing with the settlement building. It's still kinda annoying that I can't mold or form the ground as well, so I have a lot of floating structures

Remember how a ot of people joked about the dog being a Plot crtical character and being forced on you?

Well he is.

After completing the quest to rescue the Synth detective and the button magically coming into existence, we start "investigating the room" which is just my character naming things off the table without me prompting him to. After a few seconds Valentine starts talking to me, he says if I have any ideas. I see the option "Use Dogmeat" which is very very strange because I dismissed the dog before anyone even told me his name, I ditched the dumb mutt inmediately. So I don't pick it because I don't even know where the Dog even is. Then Valentine himself tells me to use Dogmeat. No idea how the fuck Valentine even knows who that is, he ahs never seen him...

Okay the quest marker then turns into "Use dogmeat to follow Kellog's trail", I think to myself "okay at least the quest marker is gonna tell me where the flea bag is". I get out of Kellog's House and now Dogmeat is just there, he teleported into Diamond City somehow. Then the quest forces me to basically waste time following dogmeat to a bunch of useless places until he arrives to a building near the place I found him in the first place.

It's so stupid....

Unarmed sucks in this game, I am 12 hours in and I still haven't found anything otherthan Knuckles. Had to put points into the Melee perk Big leaguer and now I am just destroying Synths with a pice of wood.

Hey, it's a feature.

Yeah I did the Covenant quest too but I ended up killing everyone to rescue the girl. Is there an alternative where I rescue the girl and everyone lives?

I got a machete and even a chinese electric sword. I wonder if there are Power Fists.. I really liked those in all the other Fallout games.

I guess if you talk to Jacob you can convince him with a charisma check. But I failed that one, so I just murdered everyone of those smiley fuckers.

I tried the Charisma check thing, all he ends up doing is arrange a meeting at the compound with the old Doctor lady and so they don't shoot you in the face. Jacob and everyone in Covenant are just pawns.

There are power fists. They look stupid as fuck, though.

also convincing npcs only possible through charisma check is stupid , you can put so much other checkers on different npcs for different quests like games already did that are older than 15 years + ... but heeeey , welcome to the year 2015 and its casual mediocre gaming playerbase :irked:

Is it true that the only way to be persuasive in Fallout 4 is to be Charismatic? There are no strength or intelligence based persuasion techniques?
