movie somehow. I guess that movie was pretty shit since that one plot point was the only reason to watch it apparently. You usually find these people in the reddit, marvel, comics, Harry Potter, and Disney corners of "fandoms" and it's just sad to see someone so overloaded with media that they treat it as some form of deity. Truly an example of today's Consooomers.

Anti-Spoiler culture has certainly reached a weird height but I don't think it comes from an incorrect place. Tension, reveal and mystery are vital dramatic tools in a lot of stories regardless of the medium. Some genres entirely rely on it (Agathie Christie, Doyle etc) but overall I think a lot of fiction is considerably more enjoyable when there's unknown.

It can be bad too when plots are leaked on places like 4chan and people read the bare narrative points without any of the presentation or context of the piece, and then judge it on that raw bit.

I think the cancerous part of modern spoiler culture is more in the timing, though. If you didn't watch the critical episode of a show you care about within 3 or so days, you really don't have a leg to stand on to chastise others for spoilers. Either get on top of it, cut yourself off from the internet or stop fucking whining.

The TLoU 2 one is a weird one though in that it's shitty to fans of the game cause it's not even out yet, so it's not really fair game. But also the story looks trash and so was the first game, so heyo

It's true that some movies rely on tension or that having your plot leaked can harm the end product but a competent team can make the movie enjoyable regardless through cinematography, sound, or good acting.

An example of this would be Twin Peaks, if you know the mystery of twin Peaks that doesn't take away a lot of the atmosphere and creepy shit that goes on throughout the show (with the exception of the middle part of season 2).

Counterpoint, I have absolutely zero interest and will never read nor watch an adaption of Murder on the Orient Express because I know the twist. I'm sure it's a fantastic novel, but I I will literally never read it because now that I know, it holds no attractive value to me.

I suppose that is just a different mindset than the one I have. With a movie I'm interested in how the director presents the film, the music used and the cinematography, in a novel I am interested in the characterization and prose of a novel and how it comes to those twists in the story.

I didn't read all of this but mostly, people are placing way too much value on their entertainment. I mean people changed the way they lived for a week or so over MCU movies man. They'd stop using social medias and forum-like sites due to it.

Then once it's out of theaters they feel like it's completely justifiable to spoil anything afterwards because if you wanted to see it, you should have spent the DVD price to watch it on the big screen, duh. I'm not saying you should be immune from spoilers but the flip they do is quite impressive.

It depends on the property. Learning about a key MGS plot point that drops halfway through the game, before actually playing the game, can ruin some of the mystery. If the story is based on mystery it should be a mystery.

Which superhero dies in whatever lame generic superhero movie is another story. Things like that should stand on their own two feet without propping up the narrative with a twist. These types of movies are more visually focused so it doesn't matter.

Avengers Endgame the post.

Generally agree w main point, but it depends. For the most part, none of my favorite entertainments were "ruined" by spoilers. I got the famous "red wedding" spoiled for me, but my jaw still dropped watching the episode. The impact is still there. On *rare* occasions, if there's a twist or something, that really holds the whole plot-point, I will fervently avoid spoilers though.

At the end of the day, it's not a life-changing crisis. I don't understand people who completely lose all of their shit. At the same time, I've come to expect them, like, okay, so a game was bad = minimum of 1000-1500 personal death threats, per day, to key developers, for at least 6 months. That's just to be expected.

Not being a dick is too hard nowadays? Don't spoil shit for people without making sure they are ok with the spoiler. Some people like to go to movies/games blind and others don't. Doesn't seem that complicated to get. Unless you are that autistic.

Who's the autist some guy who drops some spoiler or the sperg who goes into a tard rage and starts a shit fit or starts throwing hands because they are that childish.
T

Not everyone goes into a tard rage. Most people just say please spoiler text that on forums and such since I have not seen it yet.

I always make sure *not to spoil* for others, that's just decency, like a "least you can do", like calling someone the pronoun they ask for or whatever. I'm just saying, I don't care much if something I'm enjoying gets "spoiled"
