20 years as possible jail-time ? Seriously ? He did something wrong I guess. But if the case is like they explain it. 20 years is really a bit much.

What a load of bullshit. If he does any jail time whatsoever, the system has failed.

[I'm judging this based purely on the information in this video, that suggests he edited a footage of his young audience with an 'explicit' song he had recorded at another time. That is not pornography.]

Worst case scenario, he should pay a fine or do some community service. Also, the kids or their parents deserve royalties in case he made any money off the record/video (which I doubt he did).

"Think of the impact!!!1" Christ, some parents are such overprotective douchebags.

Said it in tO but will say it again here: What in the fuck!? Shackled up in the court room and being looked at for 20 years AND could get additional charges, for making a joke-y video? If this Judge puts the guy away, please someone run his musty old ass over repeatedly, that's a fucking travesty. Then those parents must be insane, it's not like he was making child porn FFS, you want to put this guy in jail/prison to be possibly be brutalized, for making a dirty song?

well to be fair I can see why the parents are offended or fear there might be a damage to the children. He uploaded it afterall and didnt told anyone what he wanted to do before he recorded it. I doubt people like to be exploited that way. Even when it's just for fun. So if they sue him that is their right. I think here the parents might do the same thing.

but no way does it deserve time in jail because it really is not a felony.

Though I am curious what is with the many "famous" and "popular" comedians when they use video material to cut something together for funn. Happens quite often. Dont they get some time in Jail too ?

The Whitest Kids you know have does this MULTIPLE times, once with sexual things, the other 9/11 conspricay theories, and another about making meth (where I'm pretty sure the kids might have actually been there.

I'm sure they had permission though, which is probably where this man went wrong

BUT 20 fucking years and being labeled a sex offender against children? Thats just wrong and irresponsible, hes not going to do well in prison (if the rumors about what they do to child molesters is true that is).

This is a judge looking to get famous, I wouldn't be surprised if this is appealed, I HOPE for the man's sake that he gets one.

I understand parents are upset about it, that's reasonable, but 20 years?
Not even pedophiles get that much.
Come on...

It's nice to think I could pssibly run someone's ass over and just blame it on drunkenness or something, then maybe get the same or less as this guy who made a joke video for Youtube.

As long as it wasn't a kid you ran over. In the US kids are treated like gods and devils at the SAME DAMN TIME.

We have to save the kids & We have to do something about these kids are the two phrases you'll hear the most when talking about kids in the criminal justice system, to the point its almost fanatical.

It is alright to protect children or give them a special status. Though I am always surprised about the legislative system (without meant as offense) when it comes to the US. Where is the proportionality with the crimes. I mean one has not to be a scientist to know that murder is worse then stealing a cookie from the candy bar. Not to mention that I think it is not far away to assume that the guy didnt intend some physical or mental abuse with the children. Thinking about how many times people get "exploited" just for "fun" I think the guy should not even face a single day in jail. Maybe some kind of fine but that was it.

Honestly, I always thought that the way kids are raised in US is stupid, and to extent naive, so to speak (my knowledge comes from other people's experiences, but also TV shows etc. - I get it doesn't fall far from the tree).

Isn't there some sort of protection for this for parody or satire?

The only thing I can see him getting in trouble for, is if he didn't have permission to publicly display videos of the kids, but "manufacturing child sexual abusive material" sounds a little much.

Although I agree that it's silly, I can also imagine an argument that a negative precedent would be set if he gets off completely free. If singers are allowed to sing sexual things and then edit in children, maybe it can be used as precedent for some pedophile "talking dirty" and then adding in children. Something like that.

That's the only reason I can see why they would want to not let him go. But I think that it's a pretty silly reason. Maybe I'm just missing something.

Well, this guy acted stupid. Or maybe he is just stupid. But the measure of his creative stupidity is irrelevant.
It's still to much to give a man 20 years. Pedophiles, people who post real children pornography, amd even people convicted of murder don't get that much.
If I was the judge, I'd give him a week, maybe two, or even a month, with some work, I don't know how you call it, to collect trash in the streets etc. And I would ban that video, and his account from YouTube.
But 20 years... Come on, I don't believe that even those people who sued him expected that.
On a side note, I know crap about (american) law.
That's America, right?

Yes.

Child molester's are and should be treated harshly both on trial and in jail, but this is just stupidity. he might deserve some community service or some other slap on the wrist, but this is ridiculous.

it is called community service I think and it would be the right thing.

What might be a really serious issue even if he gets only a few months is that the case will eventually fuck up his future. And that just for a stupid joke which "probably" harmed no one since he might have a crime record now. Might be hard to get any decent job with that.

So they either send him 20 years to prisson without a chance to contribute anything of value to the society OR they fuck up his future with a eventuall crime record. I mean isnt that somewhat irresponsible by a judge ? Rap on his knuckles. Tell him he did something stupid. But dont fuck up someones life just because of angry parents.

Which is why I"m saying the judge is trying to get noticed, this wouldn't be the first time (aka The Judge in the Anna Nicole Smith case "I want her buried" guy, he almost got his own show).

Or he's trying to appear "tough on crime" by taking it out on one guy then standing on his body and saying "Look, I'm tough no one's tougher on crime than me!".

At this point, his future is fucked up in a good part.

Imagine he gets away with this, still, he's got bad rep on him. Some people won't take him as an employee, or even talk to him, because of this.

He is in deep shit, one way or another. Just how deep, that's going to be a judge's decision and of those around him.

Talk about "freedom of speech".

Right wing idiots are allowed to insult everything and everyone in the most vitriolic ways imaginable without prosecution. But a silly Youtube video can rip your life apart apparently.

What's even more disgusting is those fuckers even get their kids into it. They get them out in the cold holding up signs saying "Thank God for 9/11" "Thank God for dead soldiers" and shit like that, which I'd think is times more destructive and harmful to a child than, OH NO, possibly being in a Youtube video some naughty words!
