5 new gameplay videos

What the hell was Burke doing with his arms during Vid 2? They were just slowly going back and forth.
Super stale speaking animations in any case.

And dear god, I think I recognize the Ghouls voice from the tenpenny vid. Isnt that the voiceactor that did most of the lizard people from Oblivion? Gaah...

Other than the crab people, and the "hey STALKER, we can do that too" gameplay mechanics shown in places, I'm encouraged.
For now.

I love how you guys can just identify voice actors out of the blue.

I actually think the Escape video is the only one that actually makes me want to play the game. While it's definetely not Fallouts kinda scary and hostile ambience, I thought they had a great mood going on there. Kinda more sad in some ways which I think could work.

Yip. The Vault itself and the exiting sequence are both really good. I like the blinding thing, and the quickly-following scenic overlook. It sets the tone well.

And most of the environmental design is quite good, as per usual from Bethesda.

I think he was the one who did Sheogorath in Shivering Isles as well, which is a terrible performance (and terrible writing as well).

Terrible? It's fucking atrocious. How the fuck Bethesda got away with these godawful jokes, terrible voice-acting and horrible animation and still get praise for Shivering Isles as showing Bethesda could do great dialogue and choice and consequence too. Fuck.

That's about the limit of what Bethesda's animators dare try to do.

I haven't really followed the F3 news closely but seeing these vids made me realise that this isn't a Fallout game. It might turn out to be a not-too-bad PA game inspired by the original Fallout series, but I doubt it'll be anything more.
Reminds me of BN's article on franchises and I now agree to his point more than ever.

Oh my god, now Burke has the same voice as all the guards in oblivion. A potentially cool character has just been ruined. Although the new voice actors are a breath of fresh air.

The animations are horrible as always.

The physics are bizzare as always

The art work is pretty good.

Crabb people and exploding nuclear cars is just too bad to be true.

Some of the music was pretty nice.

So basicly, every time i see something good, it gets crushed by a foot of something bad. I don't know.... Maybe there is a chance for this game to be pretty good with some heavy modding.

The crabpeople seems to be called "mirelurks". And i liked how the railspike-gun had a train "choo!" while reloading. Voiceacting was a bit of a downer though. And of course hte ever-present crappy animation.

I quite enjoyed that.

A few quick bad points.

-Too many exploding cars...There are so damned many.

-The music sucked, i hope you are able to change that in game to somthing a bit more dreary and fitting.

- Voice acting for Burke sucked.

On to the good points.

-Combat looked good in RT/VATs. I don't see how it wasn't functional. The VATs could still get old though.

-The armor shown looks pretty cool, at least by Fallout standards. Instead of the generic metal, power, leather ectra look you have quite a few choices to go from.

-Some of the characters looked pretty good others...not so much.

-The super duper mart's atmosphere was fucking great.

-Power Fist <3

-Cap Bomb Thing was pretty cool.

I give it a 7/10 overall. Hopefully some of the issues with animation ectra are just polish issues.

Not holding my breath though

Finally!

"I saw a mirelurk the other day, horrible creatures, I avoid them whenever I can."

MAN, it's good to finally know what the new mudcrab is called.

Also, I wonder if that's an intentional joke on Murloc.

Don't hold your breath. They're what, a month away from gold. No way you can seriously polish up animations in a month.

This is what we're getting. Badly animated stifly posed NPCs.

Maybe NMA should start a betting pool on whether or not the reviewers will actually talk about it or just ignore this glaring annoyance?

music still too epic (when he's not listening to the radio)

the "ka-chink!" money sound already annoys me like fuck...

achievements! that's what FO always lacked!

still "a crater of a bomb that never went off"...

GIANT MUDCRABS!!!!

looks like really shitty FPS gameplay. i can tell, because i've seen really shitty FPS games in my time. ( ;) )

the train sound on the railway driver thingy? wtf... that's so over the top...

i really don't get why you can't make an aimed shot with VATS using melee/unarmed..

i mean.. the point of getting unarmed to me in the previous Fallout games was exactly to knockout enemies with a single head-punch after coming back from sneak mode..

Also i don't like the fact that when you kill someone it always seems you are shooting with an hand-cannon from 1 meter distance and you see every enemy "flying" around like they were made out of paper..

actually dying animations in fallout were one of the best thing.. but they were actually "proportioned" to the damage/weapon you were using..

in the demo i've seen enemies flying after you hit them with a pistol or a junky rifle from 50 meters aways... i like a lot more when in the original fallout they just fell to the ground with a "modest" stain of blood after they died.. and reserved the gory animations to critical hits and stuff.. (also i hope we are gonna see some "agony" scripted dying sequence instead of hit-die-fly always.. and BTW really, the "blody mes videos" - i hope the char had it when using the power first - where everything is turned into meat chunks really doesn't appeal to me).

Also i don't like the idea they got that everyone around uses "fortune weapons": don't get me wrong.. it's great the idea taht every weapon is a bit "artisanal".. but it just gets stupid when it seems like fallout is a world of "goofy weapons inventors": from "rail rifles" to "nuke catapults" ending with "teddy bears" lunchers.

What saddens me is that those things would have been something EASY to remove in the original elder scroll series with the tools you were provided..

The coolest (the cool thing about oblivion, since i think that it wasn't as nice as morrowing considering the fact it was just a graphic upgrade.. only with the rest of the video gamnes around evolving) thing about TES was actually the construction set.. and - wich seem really like "the final mokery" to this oblivion/fallout port - the construction set (if i got it right) ISN T THERE!!

so no way of easy getting rid of that shit..
of actually having some good modder being able to expulse all of the shit trough this game and make it with good dialogues and stuff..

Well.. anyway considering the fact they were able to mod/patch games like fallout 1-2 (wich were 2d and without any tools) I think they'll be able to do the same for follout 3..

I know nobody else seems to like them... but I like the crab people.. reminds me of the 50's drive-in sci-fi.. where lots of things were "people" shaped, becasue they had to put someone in a suit.

Todd had bloody mess in most demo showings, odds are he has it here too, hence the extra-gore death animations.

We'll see. We might still see a CS released after the game's release, otherwise we'll just have to mod it oursleves.

But heck, you'll always have the new Golden Axe game, cremo.

That's what I said. Though you'll note they don't have man-in-suit anatomy. But they do move awkwardly like men in heavy suits. Wonder if that's intentional.

Hell, I guess i'm just being overly optimistic.

Still, It has some kind of appeal to me at least.

It won't be 100% fallout but to me it does echo some faint resemblance.

One question though,

What was wrong with the Ghoul's voice? Sounded fine to me for a mutated creature. It was nothing like Harlod's and Set's granted but those were two characters, can't really judge the whole race's vocal patterns based on that.

If you wern't basing it on the above then to each his own i guess.

Tornadium said:

Seriously?

It's completely monotone. Not a single emotion or inflection gets through, and that sounds really stupid when he says "let me in goddammit" and "I can stand here all day yelling at you".

He sounds like a disinterested man recovering from throat cancer. This might peripherally be appropriate if this were a zombie, but it's a ghoul. Ghoul = not zombie.

Also, no reaction to him blowing up is the new RAI hilarity!

Sorry for a double post (if someone hasn't posted before this is posted).

I noticed that most of the bloody gory death's were from critical hits or from use of the power fist/explosives. Odds are for the demo they have some kind of cheating going on in the background for presentational purposes. Maybe we won't see them as often as we think.

Good point i see where your coming from with it.

I just thought that it sounded fine. For a ghoul at least. Not 100% sure of the fallout canon to do with radiation but surely the mutation could effect their speech abilities?

The whole repeating this was funny :D

I didn't mind the ghoul voice, though i hope it's not used on all ghouls. That would really suck.

Ok about the crab things you people really ruined them for me. I don't know who posted here the video from the southpark crab people episode but everytime that i see them now the crab people chant comes back. :P

I liked it. The combat seems to work good. Probably a hacked type character, but Vats didn't 1 hit everyone.

The shopping mart shelves weren't stocked with items.

The RAI realized you turned on the protectobot. Couldn't tell if Todd was impatient or he was actually getting away from the protectobot when it started saying threat detected or whatever. He was holding a gun, so that would make sense.

The railroad gun looks like it shoots railroad spikes. Much bigger then nails, and it seems to have a good recoil to it. The pinning body parts to the wall is kind of cool.

I didn't think the cussing was bad, granted I very rarely if ever cuss, but these are uneducated guys living an extremely hard life. Cursing would not be out of the norm.

I personally liked the atmosphere and the dialogue of the world. Them stopping what they do to talk to you is minor.

Had a few guys taking cover in the foodmart or whatever.

Zombies...what can I say Todd is an idiot.

The music from the radio fits in with all the other radio play music they have used.

The ghoul's voice really didn't bother me, I didn't expect him to sound like harold as harold wasn't a ghoul. Plus, he is older then the ones in FO 2.

I liked it.

i still think he says murloc.

and, i still cant identify WHY fo3 should be a bad fps. there is too little combat to watch - you cant even judge any ai moves due to its shortness. alsoplustoo, i dont know any game with really exceptional ai. some are good (fear, crysis, pimped a-life ai in stalker), but not exceptional. ai being central to a good shooter, id like to know what made you able to identify this as a bad shooter?
